One and A Half Storey Designs

These house types are new and are an exciting method of building houses which are both sympathetic to the rural environment and reminiscent of our heritage. These houses draw on our heritage by the use of narrow plan widths and different proportions to break up the mass and bulking of the elevations.

About Bungalow Styled Home Plans...

Bungalow house plans became popular across the United States in the 1900s when homeowners and builders began responding to the formal Victorian period. This type of plan evolved with the Arts and Crafts movement resulting in informal and practical homes that were and simplistic in nature. Today’s these plans are compact and solid in design. Most are one-story or one-and-a-half-story designs featuring low-pitched roofs, large front porches with wide overhangs, exposed beams and woodwork, and use of natural materials such as rustic wood and stone. Cozy and functional, most bungalow home plans arrange the bedrooms, bathrooms, kitchen and dining space around a central living area. Craftsman home plans and Narrow Lot designs are closely related to Bungalow design.

What is a traditional bungalow?

A bungalow is a small cottage-type home, usually built as a one-story dwelling without stairs. Bungalows typically feature sloped roofs, open floor plans, large front windows, and broad front porches. Depending on the style, bungalows can feature more than one story.

What is a bungalow house plan?

Bungalow house plans trace their roots to the Bengal region of South Asia. They usually consist of a single story with a small loft and a porch. These home plans have evolved over the years to share a common design with craftsman, cottage and rustic style homes.

Why are there so many bungalows in Ireland?

But on another level, bungalows represented Ireland's gradual escape from poverty. Many of the occupants were from rural backgrounds and many were the first generation not to farm the family land. The bungalow brought a modern home within financial reach for some families.

Can I design my own house plan?

Although it's possible to form your own house design and blueprint, you can save time by working with a professional architect. An architect will translate your plans for the house's structure into a reality. You'll also need to contract a builder who can construct the house itself.
