Can You Freeze Old-Fashioned Sweet Potato Pie?

Yes, you can freeze these sweet potato pies for up to 1 month.

After you finish baking the pies, allow them to cool to room temperature.

Then, wrap the entire pie dish with plastic wrap. You may need to do multiple layers (I usually do 3 layers). Making sure that there is a tight seal helps prevent air and moisture to sneak in and mess with the consistency of the pie filling as it freezes.

Of course, feel free to add a layer of aluminum foil for extra protection.

When ready to serve, transfer the sweet potato pie from the freezer to the refrigerator.

Once it has completely thawed in the refrigerator, warm it up for 10-15 minutes in the oven at 200°F. Cut into slices, then serve with a dollop of whipped cream!

What do Patti Labelle put in her sweet potato pie?

Ingredients.
2 1/2 pounds orange-fleshed sweet potatoes (yams), about 5 medium, scrubbed but unpeeled..
1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, melted..
1 cup granulated sugar..
1/2 cup evaporated milk (See Patti's Pointers below).
2 large eggs..
1 teaspoon freshly grated or ground nutmeg..
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon..
1/4 teaspoon salt..

Why do you put eggs in sweet potato pie?

It also adds creamy flavor and texture. Traditional sweet potato pie has a custard filling, which means the filling relies on eggs (particularly the yolks) to bind the ingredients together. Make sure to allow the eggs to come to room temperature before incorporating them into the mixture.

How do you make Patti Labelle sweet potatoes?

Boil the sweet potatoes in a large stockpot until soft, about 25 minutes; drain. When cool enough to handle, peel the potatoes and transfer them to a large bowl. While the potatoes are still warm, add the butter, cream, agave, cinnamon and salt, and mash until smooth. Sprinkle with the orange zest.

Why is my sweet potato pie not firm?

If your sweet potato pie is not firm, it's likely because the filling wasn't cooked long enough. Make sure to cook the pie until a toothpick or knife inserted into the center comes out clean. Otherwise, it will be too soft in the middle.
