How to create a Yahoo account

1. Open up your browser of voice and visit the Yahoo homepage.

2. Click "Create an account," found beneath the sign-in credentials form.  

3. Fill out all the required fields, including your first and last name, username, password, birthday, and mobile number for two-factor authentication.

4. Click "Continue." 

5. Select whether to have Yahoo call or text your authentication code to the mobile number you provided.

6. Enter the 5-digit verification code when you've received it. Click "Verify" and then "Continue." 

You're all set. When you click "Done," you'll navigate back to the Yahoo homepage, where you can access your email in the top-right corner. Alternatively, you can visit the Yahoo Mail login page directly.

When creating a Yahoo account, you are required to enter another email or a phone number. This requirement helps prevent the theft of your account and the creation of bot accounts. It also helps during an account recovery process. However, for those who don’t want to give Yahoo their phone number, there are ways to create an account without it.

Keep reading to learn how to create a Yahoo account or email address without a phone number.

You can use three methods to create a Yahoo account without using your own phone number. Yahoo has built in two separate email-based workarounds to the phone number requirement. If these do not work for you, there is a potential phone number solution.

Create an Account With Google

Users with a Google account can create a Yahoo account without fulfilling the phone number requirement. Google allows many websites and companies to automatically sign-up users using Google credentials. This links the two accounts, adds security, and keeps you from accumulating too many passwords.

To create a Yahoo account with your Google account:

1. Go to Yahoo and click the sign-in button in the top right corner.
   
   
2. At the bottom of the sign-in box, click the Google logo.
   
   
3. If you are signed into your Google account on the device, you will be asked to confirm the Google account you wish to use. If not, you will be prompted to log in to your Google account.
   
   
4. You will be redirected to a screen to confirm your name and birth year. Fill in this information and click “Next.”
   
   
5. Click “Done” at the bottom of the confirmation screen.
   
   

You now have full access to your Yahoo account and can start using it immediately. You can send and receive email through Yahoo Mail, but you will not have a @yahoo.com email address.

Create an Account With an Email Service

If you don’t have a Google account, you can create an account using another email platform such as Hotmail or Outlook. Follow the instructions below to create an account using another email:

1. Visit Yahoo and click the sign-in button in the top right corner.
   
   
2. At the bottom of the sign-in box, click the “Create an Account” button.
   
   
3. Click “My Email” at the bottom of the account page.
   
   
4. Enter your full name, the email you want to use, and your birth year. Click “Next.”
   
   
5. A verification email will be sent to the email you used. Copy and paste the code from that email into Yahoo and press “Continue.”
   
   
6. Follow the prompts to create a new password and finish setting up your account.

Once you’ve set up the account, you can use Yahoo services immediately. Remember, this will only create an account but doesn’t create an @yahoo.com email address. However, you can still use the Yahoo Inbox without the @yahoo.com email address. Emails from the address you used to set up the account will automatically start to forward to Yahoo Inbox.

Create an Account With a VOIP Number

To create a Yahoo email account without using your phone number, you will need to obtain an internet phone number or Voice over Internet Protocol (VOIP) number. While you can create a Yahoo account with a different email, you must use a phone number to make a @yahoo.com domain email. Many services can provide one of these numbers to you. A straightforward and trustworthy service is TextNow.

To create a Yahoo email without your phone number:

1. Download the TextNow app for iOS, Android, Windows, or Mac.
   
   
2. Open the app and follow the prompts to get a free phone number. Remember to write down the phone number.
3. Go to Yahoo and click on the sign-in button in the top right corner.
   
   
4. At the bottom of the sign-in box, click the “Create an Account” button.
   
   
5. Enter the TextNow number in the phone field. Fill in the rest of the required information and click “Continue.” You will receive a verification code via text to the TextNow app.
6. Copy the verification code into the Yahoo verification code box.
   
   
7. Click “Continue” and follow the prompts to finish setting up the account.

Once your Yahoo email address is created, you can delete the TextNow app. Keep in mind that you will not be able to recover the account if you get locked out without a phone number or email address.

Keeping Your Phone Number Private

There are plenty of valid reasons for users to want to keep their phone numbers from Yahoo. Since Yahoo requires a phone number or another email address, creating an account can be tricky. Luckily, most internet phone numbers can help to navigate around that requirement.
