How to make the most money on doordash reddit

Hello! Today was my second day dashing, and I’m sitting on a 96% acceptance, 96% completion. (29 deliveries) I’m looking for some pointers to making more per hour while Dashing. Should I begin cherry-picking orders, to lower my acceptance rate? How should I balance this and find the right orders to do? What types of limits do you think I should have when it comes to accepting an order?

I feel like I grab anything close to $10, and I’m averaging just under two orders per hour. (7 hours shift I had 12 orders)

Looking for pro tips from all of you experienced and top dashers out there.

TL;DR Looking to increase hourly wage.. feel like I should be cherry-picking orders with my 96% acceptance rate over the span of 29 deliveries.

The best strategy is 100% honestly to figure it out yourself. I don't mean that to be a dick. I asked the same question when I started out, and some people seemed rude who said that, but they were 100% correct.

The only thing that would truly help you is if someone told you their spots, and most people won't do that because they don't want increased competition.

I will tell you what I do in general. I use a hot bag for the food. I try to keep communication with the customer at a minimum. I try not to waste any time between the restaurant and the customer. I don't recommend accepting orders from multiple apps at the same time.

You'll come up with a threshold and try to stick to it, but the problem is, it always depends. I would say it's good to have a minimum threshold, but mine often moves up. My bare minimum is usually $7 and $2 per mile. However, I will take $6 on occasion on a stacked order or if it's extremely slow (but usually not even if it's slow). Often, I won't accept this though. It depends on how busy it is, what parking will be like at the restaurant and at the customer, my mood (sometimes I don't feel like taking orders unless they're more worth it), what I'm doing (if I'm eating or want to go home, I often get pickier), what restaurant it is, what time of day it is, what the traffic's like on the way and on the way back), whether it's freeway or side streets, and honestly just your gut feeling sometimes.

For instance, I will sometimes accept a $15 order 10 miles away if it's all freeway, and I can get there on like 10 minutes. That's 20 minutes for $15 + probably a decent prop 22 boost. My car often gets 50-60 mpg, and I know I will only pay taxes on like $4 of that.

Then I get an order for $10 for 2 miles. Seems like an obvious pick, right? The trouble is, it's Friday night, and it's in the local downtown area that has a farmer's market on Fridays. I'll have to park far away and hoof it and then possible have a 15-20 minute wait. No thanks.

Find other apps you like and multi-app. Accept the best orders but consider doordash often increases the tip on larger orders (really hides the tip until you're done). I've often gotten extra which makes it worth it over uber eats.

People will tell you a lot of things but remember, they're you what works for them not what works for you. Some people accept low orders because cash tips are common in their areas. Some people are ultra-picky because they're in a high-volume, low-competition area. Some people will tell you it's not worth it to dash in the morning or late at night. Some people will tell you that's the best time. Some people will exclaim go to where there's the most restaurants (big city). Some people will say you're better off sticking to the suburbs. Some will say go to the rich areas. Others will say rich people don't tip. Some people will claim that you shouldn't dash between 1-5 because that's one of the slowest times on average. Others will say it's better than dealing with the long waits at dinner time.

I have an example for you here too. A lot of people have told me to not accept chipotle orders or mcdonald's orders, etc. However, it depends on the area and the location. Some are decent. Some suck. With some, it depends on the time of day. Some areas you can these places. Some areas you will earn nothing if you avoid them. One area I go to, the waits are always long at the popular places. It's just the way it is. Good luck having a 5 or 8-minute wait rule. You'll never make any money.

Last time I dashed, there was a$4 bonus per delivery. First one was not too far but than after that, I was driving all over town and completely out of my area. Since I got the $4 extra, I kept accepting because I didn’t want to lose out on $4. But last hour, I only got 1 order from Tokyo Joes for $7. So is it better to only accept orders that are close and should I close down if I don’t get orders within a certain time period? But if I do, will I lose the $4 bonus cause I didn’t finish my scheduled block? Also, I ended up in a bad area of town. I was very uncomfortable. I made the delivery but don’t want to deliver there again. Wish I could see the customer’s address before I accept. Thanks for your help
