How are convictions reported? 

  • After a conviction of a traffic offense, the court will forward notice of that conviction to DDS. The conviction information will be placed on the driver's driving record by DDS and additional penalties will be imposed, if applicable. Some offenses can result in the loss of your driving privileges. 

Where can I find information on convictions reported and consequences to my license?

  • If you have been convicted of one or more offenses, that can impact your driving record, we recommend you view your individual record. Click on the REINSTATE ONLINE link below or download the DDS 2 GO Mobile App to see how your driving record has been impacted by an offense. You must log in or create an account to access your information.  Please allow some time for the courts to provide the information to DDS.  You can also view your license status, suspensions, points, and more using these services.  Step-by-step instructions are provided to reinstate your license if it has been suspended.

My license has been suspended, can I still drive?

  • In some situations, a limited driving permit may be available for a fee during the suspension period.  The permit restricts the places and purposes that you are allowed to drive. See Limited Permit for more information.

What are the terms used to describe my license status?

License Status when suspended

  • Cancellation

    The Department of Driver Services is authorized to cancel your driver's license if you fail to give the required or correct information needed in your application or if you are otherwise ineligible. You may reapply once you satisfy the requirements.

  • Revocation

    When your driver's license is revoked, your driving privileges are terminated and withdrawn until the end of the period of time prescribed by the formal action of the DDS. At the expiration of the revocation period, you may apply for a new driver’s license once you satisfy the requirements. You will be required to re-take the driving tests. 

  • Suspension

    When your driver's license is suspended, your driving privilege is temporarily withdrawn for a specific period of time. At the expiration of the suspension period, you may apply for a driver's license once you satisfy the requirements.

  • CDL - Disqualifications & Serious Disqualifications

    When the driver is convicted of two or more serious traffic violations while operating a vehicle other than a CMV, the driver becomes disqualified only if there is a revocation or suspension of driving privileges.

  • Points

    The Department of Driver Services will impose penalties (points) upon receipt of a conviction of a violation of listed offenses found within the Rules of the Road codes.

How can I check my license status NJ?

The status of your driver's license can be obtained directly from the New Jersey MVC. To receive the status of your license, an abstract of your driving history, and reasons for any current suspension, you must contact the commission by phone at 609-292-6500 or 1-888-486-3339.

Can you look up Florida drivers license?

To check your driver's license status, Florida has a website you can go to. Using the Florida Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles check (FHSMV), you can look up your Florida driver license by the identification number and/or your social security number.

How can I find out if my license is suspended in MD?

How do I check to see if I have an outstanding suspension? The Maryland Motor Vehicle Administration maintains all motor vehicle records, including outstanding suspensions. You can reach the MVA by calling (800) 950-1MVA (out of state (410) 768-7000).

Can I check my driver's license status online New York?

Checking your status online is probably the most convenient way. Every state has its own DMV site which is easy enough to find. Residents of New York can sign up for MyDMV and use the Permit or ID, My License service. You will be able to check license status, privileges, number of points and more.
