As the BRN is transitioning to Nursys® there will be a short period of time that a verification request can be made through your BreEZe account; however, it is encouraged that this option is not used. It is anticipated that this option will be removed from BreEZe in April 2022.

Effective March 10, registered nursing license verification requests previously completed by the California Board of Registered Nursing (BRN) using the California Department of Consumer Affairs BreEZe Online Services will transition to a new online service provider — Nursys.

The Nursys database is the repository of the license and disciplinary data of the National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN), which the BRN has designated as its primary source equivalent database. NCSBN posts the information in Nursys when, and as, submitted by the BRN.

As the BRN transitions to Nursys, there will be a short period of time that verification requests can continue to be made through the DCA BreEZe Online Services. However, it is recommended that this option is not used after March 10, as the BRN anticipates BreEZe will be removed in April 2022.

California Board of Registered Nursing (CBRN) Joins Nursys Electronic License Verification

Posted 03/15/2022

On March 10, 2022, CBRN joined 54 other jurisdictions across the country in providing electronic license verification for registered nurses (RNs).

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

CHICAGO – On March 10, 2022, CBRN joined 54 other jurisdictions across the country in providing electronic license verification for registered nurses (RNs). RNs looking to obtain a license by endorsement to practice in another state can now use Nursys for verification of their current and past licensees in participating jurisdictions.

Nursys is the only national database for licensure verification of RNs, licensed practical/vocational nurses (LPN/VNs) and advanced practice registered nurses (APRNs). Nursys is live and dynamic, and all updates to the system are pushed directly from participating boards of nursing databases through frequent, secured data updates.

The electronic nurse license verification for endorsement component of Nursys is secure and simple to use. It is accessible anytime from anywhere, 24-hours a day, seven days a week at  nursys.com. The verification allows nurses to complete this process in the most efficient way possible.

This change only applies to RN verifications. The California Board of Vocational Nursing and Psychiatric Technicians is not a participant at this time.

About NCSBN
Founded March 15, 1978, as an independent not-for-profit organization, NCSBN was initially created to lessen the burdens of state governments and bring together nursing regulatory bodies (NRBs) to act and counsel together on matters of common interest. It has evolved into one of the leading voices of regulation across the world.

NCSBN’s membership is comprised of the NRBs in the 50 states, the District of Columbia, and four U.S. territories — American Samoa, Guam, Northern Mariana Islands and the Virgin Islands. There are three exam user members. There are also 27 associate members that are either NRBs or empowered regulatory authorities from other countries or territories.

Mission: NCSBN empowers and supports nursing regulators in their mandate to protect the public.

The statements and opinions expressed are those of NCSBN and not individual members.
