Try Again Later

We restrict certain activity to protect our community. Tell us if you think we made a mistake.

This is a clear sign that you are action blocked. Instagram won’t let you comment, Instagram won’t let you like posts, and you can’t follow or unfollow anyone. In other words, you are in Instagram jail. You are action blocked and will be action blocked until Instagram decides you should get unblocked.

The good news is, there are ways to get Instagram unblocked and these strategies have helped me several times to get out of Instagram jail.

The first thing you should do when you are Instagram blocked is take a screenshot of your “Try Again Later” message. The type of message determines which fix works best to unblock your Instagram. Also write down the date and the exact time you were blocked. This is very important for your fix as well.

What Is An Instagram Action Block?

Instagram uses an algorithm to run the platform. The algorithm decides which picture, video, or reel to show on your home feed or the explore page based on your likes and dislikes. The algorithm also decides if your photo is "good" enough to show to your followers and if your account is "interesting" enough to show to other people.

The purpose of the algorithm is also to reduce or eliminate robots on Instagram. One of the key strategies to grow on Instagram is to engage a lot with other posts. Liking and commenting on other people’s posts can be very time consuming. In order to save time and make their lives easier, many Instagram accounts use third party services or robots to like posts, comment on posts, and even answer Instagram story polls.

The goal behind using robots is to make engaging easier without taking up too much time. However, Instagram wants people to spend as much time as possible on their app. Having a service or a robot doing all that work for you is not in their interest and as such, Instagram will put you in Instagram jail if it detects that you use a third-party service or robots.

How long will i be temporarily blocked from going live on instagram

In order to determine whether an account is using a robot, Instagram has rules on how many photos you can like, how many people you can follow, and how many comments you can write in a certain amount of time without being deemed "suspicious."

If you are Instagram action blocked, you likely used a feature too often in a set time frame and exceeded the unwritten limits of Instagram activity. This means you probably liked too many photos in an hour, or throughout the day. Or you unfollowed too many people. As a result, Instagram blocked your account and you can’t like anything on Instagram.

Why Am I Instagram Action Blocked?

There are multiple reasons why you could be action blocked:

  • You liked too many posts too fast
  • You commented on too many posts too fast
  • You Followed or Unfollowed too many accounts too fast
  • You connected your account with a third-party service

Your Instagram action block message can give you an indication why exactly you are blocked. Your action block message could say that you used a “feature” too often, it can say they restrict certain activity, or that it looks like you shared your password with a third party.

The Most Well-Known Unwritten Instagram Engagement Rules / Limits

The Instagram engagement rules are incorporated into the Instagram algorithm. What exactly these rules are, is Instagram’s best kept secret. I have not been able to find any documents issued by Instagram or Facebook which define these Instagram activity rules.

However, based on my own experience and based on the experience of other influencers I know, I'm sharing the most common and well-known unwritten rules or limits of Instagram engagement.

Maximum Instagram Engagement Guideline Per Hour

  • Like between 100-350 photos per hour, but no more. This number highly depends on the age of your account. The older your account, the more you can like.
  • Comment no more than 60 comments per hour. Again, this number depends on the age of your account.
  • Do not use the same comments over and over again, including emojis.
  • Follow no more than 100 accounts per hour if you are an older account. Follow no more than 20 accounts per hour if your account is relatively new. In total, you cannot follow more than 7,500 accounts.
  • Do not copy and paste the same direct message more than 10 times. In my own experience, I found that I was blocked if I sent more than 10 identical DMs in a short time.

Maximum Instagram Engagement Guidelines Per 24-Hour Period

There are also daily (24-hour) like, comment, and follow limits which can cause you to be Instagram action blocked if you exceed them. This is likely what has happened to my account as I attempted to like one photo after 2 hours of inactivity.

  • You can like 1,000 posts per day. This is a general idea how many likes you can give out and the number might be less if your account is new and smaller.
  • Daily comment limits vary depending on who you ask. To be safe, try to stay below 200 comments per day. Instagram flags duplicate comments as spam activity so try to avoid those.
  • You can follow between 500 - 1,000 accounts per day, depending on your account age. Younger (and likely smaller) accounts can follow less people.

Connecting Your Instagram Account to a Third-Party Service

Instagram has a way of detecting if a third-party service has been connected to your account. As soon as you share your password with another service, Instagram detects this. But this doesn’t automatically mean your account will get action blocked. Instagram will monitor what these third parties do and how they access your account before deciding on blocking you.

If you have been blocked by Instagram because it thinks you used a third party service, you will likely see the following message.

Action Blocked

Your account has been temporarily blocked from taking this action. Sharing your account with a service that helps you get more likes or followers goes against our Community Guidelines. This block will expire on [date].

If you are a blogger or an Instagram influencer and you work with marketing agencies to get collaborations, you likely had to sign on their platform and connect your Instagram account. You likely won’t get action blocked just because you connected your account because these marketing agencies don’t use your log-in information to make any actions on your account. They will not like, comment, follow, or unfollow. Most marketing agencies only want you to connect your Instagram account so they can see your Instagram statistics.

However, if you connect your account to a third-party service which then starts taking actions on your account such as liking, commenting, following, or unfollowing, you can get action blocked.

Types of Instagram Action Blocks

There are multiple types of action blocks and the action block or “Try Again Later” message gives you an indication which type of Instagram action block you have. You can also easily find out what type of block you have as you won't be able to use those features.

An Instagram action block can be temporary and not have a date when you will be unblocked, or it may come with an expiration date. Action blocks come in increments of a few hours, 24 hours, a few days, a full week, or even up to two weeks!

In my experience, the length of the block highly depends on the amount of blocks you have had in the past and on the age of your account. New accounts that show robot-like activity from the very beginning are more likely to experience longer blocks.

The type of Instagram action blocks can be defined by type of action and time of the block.

Instagram Action Block by Action Type

  • Instagram Like Block: You can’t like any posts but you can still comment, follow, and unfollow
  • Instagram Comment Block: You can’t comment on any posts but you can still like, follow, and unfollow
  • Instagram Action Block: You can’t like, comment, follow, unfollow, or post any photos. (This is the block I have been experiencing!)

Instagram Action Block by Timing

  • Undefined Temporary Instagram Action Block: Your Try Again Later message doesn’t tell you how long you are blocked for. Instead it tells you to try again later.
  • 24-Hour Instagram Action Block: Your Instagram action blocked message tells you your account will be unblocked the next day.
  • Extended Instagram Action Block: Your Instagram action blocked message tells you your account will be unblocked at a certain date in the future. This can be up to 1 week, 2 weeks, or more.

First Signs of An Action Block

Instagram action blocks can seem to appear out of nowhere, but Instagram has a subtle way of warning you that you are about to be blocked. I have come across these warning signs a few times when engaging on Instagram and have been successfully able to avoid blocks!

There are two ways Instagram can warn you that you are about to be blocked on Instagram and for both you need to be on Instagram manually to detect them, i.e. you are liking photos manually.

  • If you like a photo and Instagram instantly removes your like, i.e. the heart turns red and then instantly white again, this is a sign that you might get Instagram action blocked.
  • If you try to comment on a post and Instagram takes a long time to show up, your connection might be bad, and Instagram might attempt to submit it multiple times which can cause an action block.

If you notice these two signs, you are likely close to exceeding your limits and should take a break liking and commenting for a few hours.

How to Avoid Future Action Blocks

Getting action blocked on Instagram can be incredibly frustrating. Not only are you in Instagram jail and are not able to engage, depending on the type of block, you may not even be able to post anything. If you are an Instagram influencer, content creator, or blogger, you might have ongoing Instagram campaigns and you might jeopardize brand relationships by not being able to fulfill your side of the contract.

The best thing you can do in this industry is try to not get action blocked at all. Avoiding being in Instagram jail mostly means playing by Instagram’s rules. Here are the 4 main actions you can do to avoid future Instagram action blocks.

Disconnect Third-Party Services

Instagram can detect if your account has been connected to a third-party service and if any third-party service is making actions on your account. These actions could be liking, commenting, or sending DMs. Most of these services have been created to help you increase your engagement and increase your following. Instagram is trying to limit any activity which seems unordinary and which could indicate that you are not personally on the app.

If you want to avoid getting blocked in the future, make sure you disconnect from any third-party services which perform actions on your account, if you are connected to any.

Avoid Using Robots

Similar to using third-party services to increase your engagement and/or your following, using robots to do so is equally problematic on Instagram. Instagram is trying to limit the reach of any accounts which use robots to engage or follow/unfollow people, as the app wants you to spend as much time on it as possible.

To avoid getting Instagram action blocked, make sure you don’t use any robots to like or follow/unfollow accounts.

Avoid Too Much Engagement in a Short Time

Instagram can block you if you engage too much within a certain amount of time. This is because a high engagement in a certain amount of time looks like it would be performed by a robot, rather than being done by a person. As we just discussed above, Instagram is trying to do everything possible to avoid have robots navigating the app. This is why it will restrict any actions that look like they could be performed by a robot. Such engagement actions could be:

  • Liking hundreds of photos back to back
  • Copy and pasting comments on other posts
  • Commenting with emojis only

To avoid getting Instagram action blocked, try to stay away from any robot-like behavior on the app and engage with other accounts organically. If you are planning to comment on many posts or are responding to all your comments, make sure you take a break every 5 minutes or so in order to not get flagged and action blocked.

Avoid the Follow/Unfollow Growth Method

In addition to Instagram trying to limit any robot-like behavior, Instagram is also locking down on any accounts which are trying to grow in an artificial way which they officially published in their Instagram guidelines. One of the most common strategies which is often performed by robots and/or third-party services is the follow/unfollow method. The method implies that your account would follow other accounts in a certain niche, hoping that they would follow you back, and then your account would unfollow them after a certain amount of time.

While this method may have worked a few years ago, Instagram is limiting any accounts that are detected using this growth strategy.

To avoid getting Instagram action blocked, avoid using the follow/unfollow method and do not follow/unfollow too many people in a short period of time.

How To Fix An Instagram Action Block and Get Unblocked

Now that you know everything about why you can’t like a photo and why you are Instagram action blocked, you are probably wondering how you can actually fix your action block? How can you unblock your Instagram account?

There are several ways how to unblock Instagram. The type of fix highly depends on what type of Instagram action block you are experiencing, how "severe" your block is, your account age, and how many blocks your account has had in the past.

How Severe is Your Instagram Action Block?

The first step to fixing your Instagram action block is determining what type of action block you are experiencing; a severe block or a minor block. Take a screenshot of your action block or Try Again Later message on Instagram so that you can analyze when you were blocked and for how long. There are two ways you can determine the severity of your action block and you should take both into consideration.

Does your action block message have an expiration date?

  • This means it is not a severe block and it is relatively easy to fix.
  • This means that you are experiencing a more severe block and you will need to wait until your action block is expired and there is not much you can do until then.

Have you been action blocked in the past?

  • This means that it is likely a minor action block and relatively easy to fix.
  • This means that your account is likely flagged at Instagram for multiple reasons and your action block is likely going to last longer and will take longer to fix.

How to Fix Minor Instagram Action Blocks and Get Unblocked

If your Instagram action block message does not contain an expiration date and you are experiencing a minor Instagram action block, there are several strategies you can use to fix your block. These strategies have worked for me in the past and have worked for other accounts, but keep in mind that every account is different, and it might not work the same for everyone.

Use these 7 strategies to get Instagram unblocked in this order, as the last strategy to get unblocked is the most involved.

  1. Report the issue immediately by hitting "Tell Us" on the action block. You can also go to "Settings", "Help", "Report a Problem" on the app. Don't expect to hear back from Instagram but it can help showing the app that you are not a robot.
  2. Uninstall or disconnect any third party apps. Instagram is trying to restrict the usage of third party apps. These could be follow/unfollow apps, or simply apps to monitor who unfollowed you, etc.
  3. Try to get off the wifi connection and use mobile data instead. Instagram possibly blocked your IP address and you can still use your account on mobile data.
  4. Try to log in with a different device on mobile data. Similar to the previous point, Instagram may have blocked your device and you can still use your account on a different device.
  5. Sign out of Instagram and sign in again.
  6. Uninstall the app and install it again.
  7. Leave your account alone for at least 4 hours. Instagram unblocked me once after I left my account alone for 4 hours. I would recommend to leave it alone for 4-24 hours.

How To Fix Severe Instagram Blocks and Get Unblocked

Have you tried all of the above and nothing works? I'm so sorry to hear that! Trust me when I say I know what it feels like! All your hard work could disappear, you're already losing followers, your engagement might tank, etc. This is exactly what had happened to me. I was Instagram action blocked from December 10, 2019 until December 30, 2019!

I had tried all the above methods but nothing worked. Even though my action block was only supposed to be for 24-hours, Instagram kept extending my action block every single day. So that the day I was supposed to be unblocked, I was blocked again for another day, as soon as I tried to perform any action.

I decided to reach out to Facebook support (Facebook owns Instagram) to see if they can fix my problem. Facebook Support offered to give me a call and talk to me about how my block came about and how I can fix it.

How long will i be temporarily blocked from going live on instagram

The resolution they gave me on the phone is to leave my account alone for "a few days." But what does a few days mean exactly? And how can you get back to your regular Instagram activity after a long block?

I asked exactly these questions on my call with Facebook Support. You can get the recording of the entire phone conversation by signing up to my newsletter below. You will receive a video in which I share the recorded phone conversation with Facebook Support, my story of how I have been action blocked from December 10, 2019 to December 30, 2019, all my action blocked messages, and how to fix the issue!

When will my Instagram Action Block Expire?

Instagram action block timing can be different depending on the action block message you received. If your message has a specified expiration date this is very different to having an action block message without an expiration date.

Instagram Action Block with no Expiration Date

Instagram action blocks that have no expiration date are deemed as less severe, or minor action blocks. If your action block message does not include an expiration date, it will likely expire in between 4-24 hours. Make sure you write down exactly what time you were blocked and follow the How to Fix Your Action Block steps above.

How long will i be temporarily blocked from going live on instagram

Instagram Action Block with Expiration Date

If your Instagram action block contains an expiration date, you are blocked until that expiration date. There sadly is no way you can fix your action block and shorten the time period of your block. All you can do at this point is wait.

Your action block will expire exactly on the date that Instagram tells you it will expire and exactly the minute your action block started. This is why it is important that you write down the time you were blocked as you will be blocked until the exact same minute on the expiration date.

Keep in mind that even though you can’t take any actions by liking, commenting, posting, following, or unfollowing, you can still post Instagram stories and send DMs. Use this time to connect with your audience through Instagram stories. You can use my free Instagram story Q&A templates to share more about yourself.

Your Instagram Action Block Expired but You Are Still Blocked

Your action block has expired but you are still blocked? It is easily possible that you received an expiration date from Instagram and after your account was supposed to expire, you are still blocked past your expiration date. You may even have received a new message with a new expiration date now.

That’s exactly what happened to me and it was going on for a full 20 days! This is extremely long in the Instagram world. I really hope it will not be this long for you and here is what I did to finally get unblocked.

The best thing to do in this situation is to stop taking any actions on Instagram. This means even just trying to see if you are still blocked. Chances are that if you are blocked past your expiration date, a bigger issue is going on which requires a longer time to fix.

Recommendation

If your block has expired but you are still action blocked, leave your account alone for 5-7 days to fix the block. This means no likes, comments, follows, or unfollows during this time.

I would recommend leaving your account alone for 5-7 days. This means no liking, commenting, following or unfollowing for 5-7 days. While this sounds like a very long time, it has proven to be the only method that worked for me. I tried to leave it alone for 2 days which didn’t work. I tried 3 and 4 days and both didn’t work. It wasn’t until I left it alone for 7 full days that I was finally unblocked!

My best tip is to leave your account, maybe even de-install the app to not be tempted and enjoy your social detox.

Make sure you reach out to any collaboration partners and let them now you are blocked. You can also send them your planned posts and let them know you will post as soon as you're unblocked.

If you are being action blocked, chances are you are looking to grow your Instagram account. The one thing about action blocks is that you can still post Instagram stories. This is the time to get on Instagram stories and connect with your audience. Start by sharing fun facts about yourself or do an Instagram quiz with these free Instagram Story Questions Templates.

Most importantly, don't let it stress you out too much! This is easier said than done, but it's not the end of the world. I promise! After being unblocked, I managed to grow my account again and my engagement slowly went back to "normal" levels.

What to Do After you Are Unblocked on Instagram

Once you are unblocked, the most important thing is to take it slow! If you have been blocked for only a short amount of time, take it slow the first day and don’t like too many posts.

If you have been blocked for a very long time like I was, take it extremely slow with engaging and taking actions afterwards. Here is what I did day by day after I was unblocked:

  1. Day 1 of being Unblocked: posted 1 photo and did not like anything at all. I also did not comment on any posts. Did not follow or unfollow anyone.
  2. Day 2 of being Unblocked: Posted 1 photo and liked 3 other posts that day. I did not comment on any posts. Did not follow or unfollow anyone.
  3. Day 3 of being Unblocked: Posted 1 photo and liked 10 other posts and commented on 2. Did not follow or unfollow anyone.
  4. Day 4 of being Unblocked: Posted 1 photo and liked 10-20 posts and commented on 5. Did not follow or unfollow anyone.

As you see, the key is to ease back in when it comes to engaging. During the entire first week after being unblocked, I did not follow or unfollow anyone and was very careful to not like too many posts or comment too much. I was posting every day which is important to grow your Instagram account but also shows Instagram that you are not a robot.

Instagram Action Block FAQ

Why Can’t I Like Anything on Instagram?

You are likely experiencing an Instagram action block and are in Instagram jail. If you are trying to like something and you receive a “Try Again Later” message, you are blocked. If you are trying to like something and the red heart immediately disappears again, this can be a warning that you will get action blocked.

Why Am I Instagram Action Blocked?

Reasons to get action blocked on Instagram include liking too many posts in a short period of time, commenting on too many posts or responding to your own comments too fast, following or unfollowing too many other accounts in a short period of time. Another reason would be that you connected your Instagram account with a third-party service and shared your password so they can perform actions on your behalf.

How Do I Fix my Instagram Action Block?

This depends on the type of action block. If you are blocked temporarily and have no expiration date in your action block messages, possible fixes are:

  • Uninstall or disconnect any third party apps.
  • Try to get off the wifi connection and use mobile data instead.
  • Sign out of Instagram and sign in again.
  • Uninstall the app and install it again.
  • Leave your account alone for at least 4 hours.

If you are seeing an expiration date in your action block message, there is nothing you can do other than wait until it expires.

When Does my Instagram Action Block Expire?

If your Instagram action block message contains an expiration date, your action block will expire on exactly that date and the same minute you first received your action block.

If your Instagram action block message does not contain an expiration date, your block can expire in between 4 and 24 hours.

Can Instagram Permanently Block You?

Instagram can permanently block and shut down your account at their own will. However, if you are following the Instagram standards and guidelines, this is very rare.

Why Am I Still Blocked After My Instagram Action Block Expired?

Guesses in the industry are that this might be a bug in the Instagram code or that your action block is more severe. The best thing to do in this case is stay off the app for several days to indicate to Instagram that you are not a robot.

How Can I Get in Touch with Instagram Support?

Instagram support is almost impossible to reach but I was successful reaching out to Facebook Support. I went to my Facebook page connected with Instagram and to ad support and was able to reach out to them there in the ad support chat.

  1. Did it give you a date, and just keep going past the expiration time?

    • Hi Erika! Yes exactly. It said it would expire the next day. When I tried to like something the next day, I got another block for another day. This went on for a while until I then left my account alone for 7 full days.

    • My account is blocked please unlock my account I can not like comment and follow someone

      • my account was blocked, wasn’t released even after the said release date. I was able to get it unblocked through a cyber team i saw online cyberinformationrewrite GM]AIL C]OM. That’s the only solution i know that works.

  2. They are not following there own expiry date.
They told me that it will expire on 11th July but it’s still not getting expired.

  3. It showed a date that this day the action blocked will expire but still on that day it is action blocked how will it go.

    • Hi Ishika!

This is exactly the problem I had. Have you tried logging out and deleting the app? If this doesn’t work, I would not try to like, comment, or follow anyone for a week. You can still be on stories and DMs but unfortunately, engaging will not help with the problem.

      I hope this helps,
      Bettina

      • hii I am also facing same problem from 3 days I am losing my followers can you give me tips how can I get unblock pls

      • Hi! So sorry to hear that! What does your message say? Do you have an expiration date? The best way to get unblocked is by leaving your account alone. Don’t comment, no like, no follow, no unfollow. That’s the only thing that helped me and I had to take a 7 day break in order to get unblocked.
Regarding losing followers, don’t worry about them. If you lose followers after 3 days of not posting, then these are not the long-term followers you want anyway. Building an audience takes time and the best followers are the ones who really care about your content and they won’t unfollow you after three days.

        Hope this helps!

    • I’m facing the same problem now. They told me it block will expired on 2020_10_8. But still is not expiring.
Now tell me. After how many days your block expire?

      • I’m sorry to hear that! I was unblocked after I did not take any actions for 7 days. I hope you will be unblocked soon!

  4. Hey I followed most of the advice from here and my account is still restricted. It has almost been a month. What should I do? I have also messaged facebook pages support but have not received a reply.

    • Hi Kayla! I am so sorry to hear that! That’s the worst! What exactly does your block message say? And how did it happen? Did you take some time off Instagram and how did you check if you were still blocked? I will also send you an email to follow up.

  5. Hey I’ve also been blocked since Tuesday, it’s been over a day. I can comment and post but I cannot like anything on instagram without it saying ” We restrict certain activity to protect our community. tell us if we made a mistake” I tried reporting it and clicking “tell us” But nothing seems to work can you please help me out . I’m so frustrated 🙁 . My email address is

    • Hi Tracy!
I am so sorry you are Instagram action blocked! That’s so frustrating! It sounds like you are just blocked from liking photos. There are two ways you can go about this and you may already have tried one or the other. 1. Keep using Instagram but don’t try to like anything for 24 hours. After 24 hours, see if you can like again. If so, take it slow, only like maybe 1 photo per 2 hours.
      2. You can try to log out, uninstall the app, wait 24 hours, re-install the app, log back in and like one photo. If it works – don’t like anything else for 1-2 hours or so. Then do one more action.
Let me know if this helps!

  6. Hey i can like the post but can’t comment on the posts, i think i replied same msg to my post’s comment that’s why i got an action block. The message says that action blocked and will expire on 2020-08-24. Also I’m not able to post. What should i do??

    • Hi Vishal,
Unfortunately, if you have an expiration date, there is not much you can do other than wait until that date. Once you are unblocked, take it slow as to not get blocked again immediately. Like a handful of posts only and don’t comment too much either.
I hope you are unblocked by now!

  7. Your account has been blocked for showing me for more followers it was fired on 22 of August 2020, I can’t comment I can’t like I can’t post I can’t write post please help me thank you

    • Hi Desire! I am so sorry to hear that! Do you have an expiration date on your Instagram action block message? If so, there is not much you can do unfortunately than wait. But if you don’t have an expiration date, I would try to log out, uninstall the app, wait 24 hours, re-install the app, log back in and like one photo. If it works – don’t like/follow/unfollow/post anything else for 4 hours or so. Then do one more action.
Let me know if this helps!

  8. My account is blocked since 5 to 6 weeks it always shows your account is compromised and change your password after changing my pass my acc would get blocked for likes comments and follow why is this thing happening im not using any third party app then too they are blocking me for no reason

    • Thank you for reaching out! That sounds serious, sorry to hear that! If they say your account has been compromised, there might be a serious security issue. Make sure you have the two-factor verification switched on so nobody is trying to hack your account. Then I suggest leaving your account alone for 7 days. You can post stories and write DMs, but don’t like, comment, follow, unfollow, or post a feed post. Also make sure you have any third party apps disabled and are not using Instagram anywhere but on your phone. Then after 7 days, try to like one photo. Only one. if it worked, wait another 24 hours and then maybe like another photo. The key is to show Instagram that you are a real account and are not using any robots or any other services.

      • I’m face an error “try again later” and in error the date is mentioned 20-11-26 but now it’s 20-11-27 and error is still there.
What should I do ? Kindly help

      • Hi Saif! I am so sorry to hear that! I have heard of many instances when accounts have been blocked a day longer than the expiration date. If you are in an Eastern time zone (Europe, India, Asia, etc.) this might be one of the reasons since the servers are in the US. Just wait one more day and it should go away.

  9. My account is action blocked

    • My account has been temporarily locked since 3/29. I do not have access to the email it is sending the code to. It’s been more then a week and I don’t know what to.

  10. Hi Bettina,

Thank you for sharing this information. I just received a 7-day block (I think for unfollowing and cleaning up accounts I wasn’t excited to follow any more). Do you know if the 7-day date should be accurate — and when I am unblocked, how risky is it if I post that day since I will need to? Thank you!

    • Hi Julie,

Thank you so much for reaching out! A lot of this depends on what you were doing during the action block. If you didn’t try to like or comment too much, the action block should expire when it says it does. It usually expires the same minute you received the block so noting down the time is helpful. If you need to post that day specifically, I would wait until you’re supposed to be unblocked and post a few hours afterwards. The important thing is to not like anything, comment on anything, or follow/unfollow anyone. Once you were able to post, I would not engage either. You can maybe like one photo but generally I advise to only do one action the day you got unblocked. And if you post, that counts as one action. The following day, you can slowly start engaging again but I would do maybe 1 like per hour. The trick is to really ease back into it.

I hope this helps and good luck!
      -Bettina

  11. Hi, my action got block on my Instagram since last week and it says it will expire September 19, 2020 and that is today. I still can’t post and like any photos on my Instagram I can only direct message someone and post photos on my stories. What should I do? I tried to uninstall the app and install it again but it didn’t work. I also tried to not touch my ig for few days but still didn’t work.

    • Hi Mavy, I am so sorry to hear that! Did you get an additional block message with an expiration date or without one? If uninstalling the app and installing it again doesn’t work, I would recommend you try to leave your account alone for longer, unfortunately. I tried leaving mine alone for 3 days and I was still blocked. I would suggest you leave it alone for 7 days. I know that’s really hard, especially if you need to post for brand collaborations. But this worked best for me. Keep me posted!

      • Hi betina my account is on action blocked with date on 30/11/2020 but now is 1/12/2020 and I still have this problem what is going on please tell me ?

      • Hi Alban, what time zone are you in? I have noticed that people who are not in North American time zones experience that their block lasts 1 day longer. This is likely a glitch in the Instagram algorithm and I have heard from many people who are in Europe or Asia that their blocks last a day longer.

      • Today is the day I am supposed to get unblocked. I plan to post some thing today but after that should I wait seven days until I am unblocked?

      • I already tried to respond to your question but just saw this comment as well. If you had a longer block, it is best to take it slow and just like one post in 24 hours. If this was your first ever block, you should be fine trying to post something. Just don’t overdo it with engaging with other posts and take it slow. Hope this helps!

      • Hello! Does -leave your account alone for 7 days- mean that I should not use it at all? Not even to post a story or send a DM? Or can I do these things and wait for 7 days without trying to like/follow ?

      • Hi Ghida!

I think posting stories and sending DMs is fine even if you are blocked. It shows the algorithm that you are not a robot. While I was blocked, I was always able to post stories and send DMs. I actually shared my block on stories too. During the 7 days, I would stop liking, commenting, following, unfollowing, posting feed posts, and posting reels. I’m not sure how reels affect the block but a reel post is very similar to a feed post so I would assume that it counts as an “action” and would make the action block worse.

        I hope this makes sense!

  12. I just got blocked from writing captions and commenting around an hour ago. I only created this account less than a week ago and so I’ve never been action blocked before, but it says it’ll expire on the 24th. So in 3 days, which I really don’t want to wait for. I changed my bio, reached out to Instagram, and stopped engaging. Do you think I should continue using my account without posting w/ captions and commenting since if I have an expiration date and there’s nothing I can do, or leave it alone and there’s a possibility it’ll start working before the 24th?

    • Hi Shreya,

Thanks for reaching out! Since your account is brand new, I would suggest you wait. The newer the account is, the more likely you are to get blocked because Instagram is trying to restrict the creating of new “bot accounts” and as such will not allow as much activity on your account if it’s new. The older your account, the more you can like and comment without being blocked. I would leave it alone until the expiration date and not do anything before then (no likes, no comments). Since you got an expiration date, it’s unlikely that your Instagram action block will be unblocked before then.

I hope this helps and that you can get back to normal posting soon!

      • Hey,
Im getting a message saying we limit certain things like following people on instagram,to protect our community
        Try again later
There is no expiry date and its been 3 days

      • Hi Divin,

I’m sorry to hear you are action blocked! Did you follow a lot of people recently? And when do you get the message, when you like something, comment, follow, unfollow? I would try to stay off the app for a few days to make sure it resolves. It looks like Instagram flagged your account given that it has been 3 days since you have been blocked.

Hope this helps, let me know if you have any other questions.

        Bettina

  13. hey my account have been blocked for some time and it said that i will be unblocked on 2020_10_22 but it havent till yet please tell me what to do why they r not following their own dat

    • Hi Maryam, I had the same problem and I’m sorry to hear that! They blocked me even after the expiration date. I would certainly wait until October 22 until the block should be lifted and make sure you take no actions at all. So no likes, no comments, no follows, no unfollows. Every time you are trying to take an action during a block, it can extend your block. I hope this helps!

  14. Hi, I didn’t jot down the expiration date of my action block. Is there any way to check the expiration date?

    • Hi! Unfortunately, the only way to find out is if you like one photo to trigger the action block message again. It will either have an expiration date or if it doesn’t, it’s a shorter block and can last anywhere from 4 hours to 24 hours. Hope this helps!

  15. Has anyone’s account been fixed mine is having the same problem

    • Hi Trey! Sorry to hear you are still experiencing problems. Mine is fixed and I didn’t have any issues for at least 6 months now. One possible solution if you keep getting blocked is to try not to engage much at all and not unfollow or follow any accounts. I noticed that if you keep your activity to posting and responding to DMs for a week or more, it helps “reset” your account.

  16. Hi! My instagram account was suppose to end its block today, expiry date 27/11/2020. I was block on 21/11/2020 1.30pm. Now it is 3.00pm 27/11/2020, but I am still not able to post on my instagram. Throughout 21/11 to 27/11, I did try to post a picture a day to see if I was already unblock. Now I am still not able to post after the expiry date and time. You did mention to leave my instagram account alone for 7 days. Does this mean I should not post stories and reply to my DM’s as well?

    Thank you in advance

    • Hi Syed, I am sorry to hear that! You can always post stories and respond to DMs. I think it’s important to still engage with your audience even if you’re blocked. Which time zone are you located in? I have heard of many instances lately where accounts are not unblocked on the expiration date but a day later and it seems to have to do with time zone. So it might be that your account will get unblocked on 27/22/2020 at 3pm Pacific Time. This is a guess but I have heard that from other people who had the issue. Let me know if you are unblocked now!

      • Hi bettina! I didnt tried to post anything on my instagram since 27/12/2020 because I was afraid I might prolong the block. I thought of following your advice of not posting anything on my instagram. But today 1/12/2020, i tried to post and I am not blocked anymore ! I am so happy! Thank you for you advice, it was really helpful

      • I am so happy to hear you are unblocked! Thank you for letting me know!

  17. Hi. My msg says that sharing your account with a service that may get you likes and Followers. But actually I didn’t do anything like that. Why is instagram punishing me for something I didn’t do?

    • Hi Kritika,
I’m so sorry to hear that! Sometimes Instagram thinks you shared your account with a service if you log in on a new device (think new laptop, new phone, new ipad) and start engaging right away. I once logged into my account from another account and Instagram thought it was one of those “third party services” and blocked me. Sadly there is not much you can do other than being careful where you use your account. Because there are so many robots and fake accounts out there, Instagram has to find a way to eliminate those and unfortunately, we can get punished if our “engaging” behavior looks like a robot. I hope this helps and you’re unblocked soon!

  18. Hi!
I’ve changed my password several times in 2 or 3 days and my account had been blocked and it will expire on December 8th but I wanted to to know some more about it so I read all of the things that you have written.
I wanted to ask if I can see the stories or answer my DMS or watch the posts and do not like or comment or follow or unfollow people.
I have this account from 2014.
    Thanks for answering

    • Hi Say,
Thanks for reaching out! Yes you can definitely still see stories and I would recommend you still post stories and answer DMs. It’s a great way to stay connected with your audience and if you post stories, you are “telling” the Instagram algorithm that you’re not a robot. I recommend to NOT like, comment, follow, unfollow or post a feed post or reel until you are unblocked.
      I hope this helps!

      • Heyy!
I got unblock today, thanks for your help, =)

      • That’s amazing! Thank you so much for keeping me updated! I appreciate it! I am always happy to help!

      • Hi, I’m unable to unrestrict a person on Instagram, it’s been 3 days and when I click on unrestrict option it’s says, “something went wrong try again later”. Please help!

      • Hi Faryal, That’s not something that we usually see. Does it work now? Our best suggestion would be to try again later or uninstall and reinstall the app. Sometimes when Instagram does updates, bugs can appear which hang up some of the normal functionality. Thanks!

  19. I got action blocked and then today I got that I have a expiration date. I tried to see maybe it will go away and stuff so I accidentally like and it goes away. I had this problem before but never this serious

    • Yes having an expiration date is definitely more serious. I would say be careful with liking too many posts or following/unfollowing too much. Instagram now gave you a warning and they can make your blocks worse (like they did for me) if you’re not careful.

      • Hi everytime I try to log in too my Instagram it’s says message says try again later we limit how often you can do certain things on Instagram to protect our community. Tell us if you think we made a mistake. I can’t like follow or view my account it down have a expiration date should I leave my account alone up to 4 to 7 hours ?

  20. Hi
My accout blocked forth time (every time for a week) I dont know why?
I fear that next time insta block me 1 mounth!!
Do you know the protocol of blocking?
For example next time I will be block 1 week again or more?

    • Hi Vahid,
I’m so sorry to hear that! That’s a long block! Without knowing the age of your account, how many photos you like, how much you comment, and how many people you follow/unfollow, I can’t tell you exactly why you are being blocked. Instagram thinks your account is a robot account or showing robot behavior which is why they block you so my best tip is to stop what you’re doing and change your strategy.

I don’t know the protocol of blocking but I know that once Instagram flags your account as “robot,” you have to be very careful because then you’re on the list of problematic accounts and it’s very hard to recover.

      Hope this helps!

  21. I got action blocked today but not for likes, comments or followers. I am unable to view my heart tab for notifications. So I can’t see likes, comments and followers but I can provide them. Have you heard of this before?

    • Hi Sheena,
This is the first time I have heard of this issue – very odd! Has it been fixed yet? I know Instagram was making more updates so it could be that it was glitching.
      Thanks,
      Bettina

      • Hi hope you are doing great ..
We are experiencing the same problem…in the past we have got block so many times…like one week block with expiry date we have got 4 times…after that ..2 hours block , 24 hours block a few times as well…

But since 5 days ..we have been facing a a different kind of issue …they are not showing any date …but it’s been 5 days ..still not able to like , comment or post anything with hashtags .. the message what we are getting is exactly you can read below.

        Try again Later ..

” We limit how often you can do certain things on Instagram like commenting to protect our community . Tell us if you think we made a mistake .

        Report problem.
        Ok

Pls let me know ..what’s the solution for this ?

      • Hi! So sorry to hear this! Given the message you have received, I would assume that you are liking, commenting, following/unfollowing too much in a short period of time. I would recommend to disable all third-party apps if you have any installed. Log out of Instagram everywhere but one phone (sometimes if you are logged in on multiple devices, you can get blocked), and try to stay off the app for a while. Since you have this block for 5 days already, I would log out, uninstall the app, wait 7 days, and then install it again and try to maybe like 1 post only. Let me know if this works!

  22. Hi,
I got blocked today and I can´t see or edit my own profile. Have you heard of this before? On the notification there is no expiration date so I´ll just wait. But do you think I should answer my dms? or is that action going to make the blocking last longer? I am really worried! 🙁

    • Hi Natalia,
Thanks for reaching out! I am so sorry to hear that! That’s so weird that you can’t see or edit your profile. I think waiting is definitely the way to go. In my experience, DMs do not count as action and you can certainly respond to them. Let me know what the situation is now and if it has resolved by now.

  23. Hey! I have received a block with no date and I’m on day 4 and logged off! I cannot like or unfollow and not sure when’s best to check! Many thanks Sian

    • Hi Sian! I am so sorry to hear that! I think staying off the app for 7 days is the best solution. It sounds like a long time but that is the only thing that worked for me. You can still send DMs and post stories but nothing else. I hope this helps!

  24. Hi Bettina,

I just want to say thank you. I had a temporary action block on my account without an expiration date for days on end and no matter how many times I would leave my account alone, a new action block would show up every single I would perform 1-2 actions. I listened to your advice of leaving my account alone for a full 7 days and I’m on day 4 of being unblocked! Thank you for this great article and quality advice. You’re the best.

    • Hi Nicole! Oh this makes be incredibly happy! I am so happy you found this post helpful and are finally unblocked!

  25. Hi dear Bettina!
My friend has been blocked 1 month ago and he can’t start live video chat yet! He don’t have any expiration date and he says that he was blocked several times and he got some Instagram warnings before!
So could you help us that what should he can do? he has 600K followers and he needs to have interaction with his followers via live chat!
Kindly please help us. Thank you so much 😉

    • Hi! I am so sorry to hear that! I have never heard anyone being blocked on live video chat. Given that he has received some warnings already, it might be that the account was reported by someone else on Instagram or that Instagram flagged the account as problematic. The only way to reset the Instagram account is by leaving it and not doing anything on it. I know that’s hard but if he wants to be able to use these features again in the future, this is the best way to solve it.

  26. I’m face an error “try again later” and in error
the date is mentioned 08/02/21 but now it’ 10/02/21and error is still there.
What should I do ? this feature, your account has been temporarily blocked from taking this action. This block will expire on [date]. We restrict certain content and actions to protect our community. Tell us if you think we made a mistake.

    • Hi Ashish,
I’m sorry you are still blocked. This is what happened to me as well. There are two things to consider: 1. depending on what time zone you are in, the action block will expire a bit later. I noticed that if you are in Asia, India, Australia, etc, your action block expires a day later. 2. If you are still blocked and the block does not go away, I would suggest you leave your account alone for 7 days. That’s the best way to reset it.

      Hope this helps!

  27. Hi!
I’ve got blocked on January 26th – exactly seven days ago – and the block would expire tonight, but these days I’ve accidentally liked or commented on some posts and I’m so worried about another block. If that happens, should I stay offline for a week, not even posting Instagram Stories?

    • Hi Davide,

When you liked and commented on some posts during the blocked time, did those go through or did you get the error message saying you are blocked and can’t comment/like? I would recommend to stay off liking, commenting, following, unfollowing for 7 days. Posting stories is okay still as Instagram doesn’t view that as problematic. But if it’s easier for you to stay off the app completely, then I would do that.

  28. I was blocked from liking and following. Today’s the day I’m supposed to get unblocked. I want to post some thing today and then I could wait seven days until I am active again. Would that work?

    • Hi Joseph,
It is always hard to know what exactly Instagram will do, but I would suggest with starting smaller, for example just like 1 photo, and then wait 24 hours to like your next photo. Hope that helps, Bettina

  29. Hi Bettina,

I received an action block with an expiration date of a week last Sunday 9am ( I guess for sending the same text in too many DMs). Anyways I have stopped liking, commenting, posting for the week now. (although I accidentally liked quite a few times to test if I am unblocked).

    ## Can I be active on stories/DMs during this duration? Will it be a reason for extending my block?
    ## Also, what is the exact time I can expect to be unblocked? I live in India!
    ## After a week do I have to uninstall and resintall the app before checking if action is unblocked?

    • Hi Vedha,

I’m sorry to hear about your action block! What exactly does your action block message say? And does it show up when you like or comment or only when you send DMs? Depending on what it says, the response to your questions might be different. Generally, I noticed that you can send 10 DMs with the same text before getting blocked.

      ## You can be active on stories and I even think it’s beneficial because then Instagram sees you’re not a robot. With regard to DMs, it depends. Generally I think it’s good to be active on DMs as well but you would need to write personalized messages not copy and paste messages. However, if you are getting a blocked warning when you send a message, I would not send any DMs.
      ## Generally, it would expire on the expiration date at the same time you were blocked. So in your case 9am. However, I know that a lot of people from India have the issue that their blocks don’t expire at the right time because of the time zone difference. To be safe, I would wait until Monday at 9am and just give it an extra day.
      ## You can certainly try. It doesn’t hurt to uninstall and reinstall the app. I did it when I was blocked.

      I hope this helps!

  30. Thank you for your response!

When I try to like or comment, action block message says ” I have been blocked from this activity until 2021-04-03.

    ## It shows up only when I try to like or comment. I am still able to post stories and send DMs. I do not have an any action block wrt to DMs or stories! Also, I did not try to make any post since I am not able to engage in any content anyways. So should it still be okay to post stories and send DMs?

    ## Also, do you mean to say I need to wait until Tuesday 9am to test unblock?

    • Thanks for clarifying! This helps a lot. Since you only get the block message when you try to like or comment, stories and DMs are perfectly fine. I recommend going on stories and also writing personalized DMs as this shows Instagram that you’re not a robot. I agree that posting normal feed posts is not a good idea at the moment since you can’t engage. When I was action blocked, I was not allowed to post a feed post either and it gave me a block message when I was trying to post. So it’s best to wait until you are unblocked.

Since your block is supposed to expire on April 3rd, I recommend waiting at least until April 4th because you’re based in India and the action block might actually expire later. If you want to wait longer than that, you definitely can. If you have something you need to post right away, I recommend posting your feed post once you are unblocked and then maybe like one or two posts for 24 hours not more. If you start engaging fast, you risk that you get blocked again.

      • Thank you so much Bettina for taking the time to leave this reply!
I had been active on stories and DMs until day before yesterday and for the past two days I have logged out completely since this issue is taking a toll on my mental health!

Can’t wait to update to you on my unblock soon 🙂 much love xoxo 🙂

  31. Hi, I hope you can help me because I have not seen anyone else have the same problem as me!
So I have multiple instagram accounts on my app, and sometimes I switch between these accounts several times a day. So yesterday when I switched between the accounts, Instagram told me that they saw a suspicious activity and told me to change my password. I have done that already and now I haven’t switched between several accounts, I only use my one account and have logged out of all the other accounts from the app. But every time I open the Instagram app from my original account I get the message ” try again later, we limit how often you can do certain things on instagram…” but I can still comment, like and scroll the app ass usual, but it’s just that every time I open the app, I get this message. do you have any idea why I get this message every time I open the app and how I can fix it?

    • Hi Sara,

This is super weird and I have never heard of this problem before either! I also have more than one account as I created a feature account with my friend and I often toggle between the two without any issues. I don’t think switching between two accounts should be an issue and I’m wondering if someone was tryin to hack your account. If they try to hack, Instagram will send you a warning saying you need to change your password. Did you install two factor authentication? I would highly recommend to install it to protect your account. You can do that in Instagram under settings and security. There you can also see if anyone else is logged into your account and what apps currently have access to your account. Make sure you check that to see if anything is off.

As with regard to the block, have you tried to uninstall the app and installing it again? If the block message only appears when you open the app, it might be that it is logged in in too many places so if you have it on multiple devices, I would set up two factor authentication and change your password again (to be safe), log out everywhere, uninstall the app, and install it again. Hopefully, this will fix it.

      Keep me posted please!

  32. I have been action blocked for over a month now on Instagram and it never shows a star of expiration. I’ve tried logging out and logging back in. I’ve uninstalled and reinstalled the app. Nothing has helped.

    • Hi Hannah! I am so sorry to hear that, that’s so frustrating! So your message does not have an expiration date? What exactly does your message say? And when does it show up? When you like something? Have you tried to not do anything on Instagram and leave it alone for 7 days? That means no commenting, no liking, no following, no unfollowing and no posting feed posts or reels. I found that when I left my account alone and only posted stories and responded to DMs for 7 days, it fixed my block.

  33. Hello

I have been action blocked for two weeks now. I was receiving a code to an email I had no longer had access to. I stayed off the app for 7 days and nothing. Can you please help me ??

    • Hi G, I’m so sorry to hear that! What does your block message say exactly? It’s important to see what it says as all block messages are different!

Is there any way you can retrieve your code from that email? Or are you able to change the email associated to your Instagram account? That way you can have the code resent. I have never heard of them sending a verification code because of an action block but if they can’t verify that you are a real person behind the account, the block might continue. Do you also have two factor authentication? It may not have anything to do with the block but it’s important to set it up to make sure nobody can hack your account.

Keep me posted on how things go!

      • It’s almost been a month since my account has been temporarily locked. It says “ we’ve detected suspicious activity on your instagram account and temporarily locked it as a security precaution. It’s likely that your account was compromised as a result of entering your password on a website designed to look like instagram. This attack is known as punishing.” I tried to change my email but It didn’t let me. Is there anything I can do ??

  34. My action block is more than 2 weeks and its doesn’t have any expiry date . So till when it will be there as I am not doing any action by 2 weeks but it’s still showing action block with try again later button please help me

It’s creating a lot of issue I am losing my followers.according to me I had not done anything wrong though instagram has blocked my activity what should I do ?
Till when I should wait ?
    Please help me

  36. I was action blocked for nearly 2 months and thought the block was permanent but managed to get it removed after getting help from Technician_IG on Twitter. Instagram needs to remove this feature, it’s hurting the community and I doubt it stops bots!

  37. Hi, Please assist my Action is blocked. I cant “like” comment” or following other people on my Instagram. Please help.
    Thank you.

  38. Hey,
I’m able to like the post on explore but I am not able to see the posts of my following and my following and followers and I am not able to DM someone as their messages are not loading but the notification comes and the expiry date they have told is the same and it has been expired but not my account is get unblocked can you please help me?
It was expired on June 7, 2021 at 12:00 am and the expiry date they showed is 2021-6-7 and today it’s June 8, 2021 9:33 am

  39. Hi
I was action blocked on monday 5th july around 11:47pm at night EST, and it says i cannot use instagram basically until 2021-07-06. do bans always end at this time or should i leave it for maybe another half day?
    Thanks!

    • Hi Kimberly,
Bans usually expire the time you received them. So if you received your pan at 11:47pm EST, it likely expires on the 6th at 11:47pm EST.

Hope this helps and you got unblocked!
      Bettina

  40. Hello – thanks for this thread.
I am not sure why I was blocked, I think it is because I entered my password incorrectly on my ‘followers’ third party app.
Anyway, it was meant to expire yesterday and is still blocked.
When I login all I see is a blank screen, and I can’t see my posts or reels. I can only see photos I am tagged in.
Have I lost my account? When I search for it on my friends account I can still see I have followers.
    Any help is appreciated!
    Anna
    @play.learn.flourish

    • Hi Anna,
I am so sorry to hear that, that sounds terrible! I have never heard of anyone only seeing a blank screen when logging in, that’s terrifying! Have you tried posting something? A post or a story? Are you connected to Facebook business? If so, you should be able to access your Instagram account via Facebook business page. You might be able to change the password through there. Have you tried logging in on a different phone or the computer? Instagram is trying to block any third-party apps, even ‘followers’, and it is best to not use any to be on the safe side.

      I hope this helps,
      Bettina

  41. Hi Bettina,

There was a popup of try again later at about 9 am that I have been restricted from certain activities until 2021-07-24. And I am not able to message anyone and even open the chats also. So does this mean that my block will expire on 2021-07-25 at 9 am? Or should I wait till 2021- 07- 26? And will all my messages be recovered when it is unblocked and will it block me again if I start messaging my friends on the same day I am unblocked?
Please kindly consider my query also ma’am.

    • Hi Reshma, Instagram blocks run in periods of 24 hours, so you would be unblocked exactly 24 hours after being blocked. All your messages should return. If you can wait longer, it’s always advised, and once you are unblocked just try one action, and then leave the account for 24 hours again. Once you are unblocked you should start slowly again, with limited actions. Hope that helps!

  42. hi,
i got action block too, but it say the block will expire on 21 july. but until now it show me the same message since after my expiration date.
I don’t know what to do now. I’m just low IQ to this kind of stuff. so i want to know, what should i do. i already leave my account for 3 days and i don’t know when it get unblock. I’m afraid if i like or comment something to test that I’m blocked or unblock because it may extend my block. what is the best way to know that i already getting unblock? and how long to wait until my account getting unblock. hope you answer my question get me some advise.
    thanks!

    • Unfortunately the only way to know if you are unblocked, is to try to like a photo. If you can, it would be best to leave your account for 7 days before trying, this is the best way to allow sufficient time for Instagram to unblock your account. Hope that helps!

  43. I have just been action blocked today by using the folowers+ app on Instagram to see more data about my followers etc. It notes a block until the next day. I’m in North America, anything you recommend? I have tried to reset password, uninstall and reinstall, enabled 2FA and still, nothing has lifted it. Any recommendations of support places I can reach out to help fix the problem?

  44. I will also mention that the action block message popped up over and over again as I attempted to navigate the app. I was unable to see my posts or followers or following counts however I was able to navigate through the menus and changed my password and everything. I am going to wait 3 days most likely and then see if it is still unblocked even though it only says one day block.

    • Hi Hunter, thanks for reaching out! Using any 3rd party apps with Instagram can easily cause an action block. Once your account has been blocked, there is nothing you can do to lift it prior to the stated expiration date. It should unblock you exactly 24 hours after the block started. If you can, I would agree with waiting 3 days. Sometimes Instagram can have consecutive 24 hour action blocks, so the longer that your wait until starting your next action, the more likely your account will get back to normal sooner. After your 3 days, start slowly with just 1 like for 1 day and see what happens, then slowly build up your actions again. Hope that helps!

  45. Oddly, my account was blocked apparently for simply looking at too many photos. I don’t post almost ever, I very rarely like images of other people, and I have very few people that I follow on instagram. I just like to look at high quality photography images, and occasionally will download them for collection.

I was surprisingly banned for an entire month, with no indication that what I was doing was wrong. In fact when I look at terms of service there is no indication that looking at many photographs and downloading them is against the terms of service.

    • Hi Fabian,
That’s really odd. I have never heard of anyone being blocked by looking at too many posts. On the contrary, Instagram would usually want people to stay on the app longer. What exactly do you mean by “downloading them for your collection?” Could it be that you are downloading too many and Instagram detects a robot like behavior?

  46. I just used the Dollar Eighty app (which finds you posts to engage with) and IG blocked me for a day. It’s so frustrating 🙁 I got to know about this app through a YouTube video. I liked and commented on 9 posts through this app. Now IG won’t let me view my own posts, followers and following count, home page etc. I never had an action block like this (viewing block) before. I don’t know what to do.

    • Hi Prici,
So Sorry to hear you are blocked! That sounds very serious. Yes generally it is best to avoid the use of any third party apps as Instagram is really looking to limit accounts that do. This is now the second time I have heard of this kind of block (not being able to see posts, followers, etc.) after the use of a 3rd party app. Do you remember if there was an expiration date in your action block message? Sadly with action blocks, there is not much you can do other than wait until they expire. You should still be able to engage with your audience on stories and via DM.
      Hope this helps!

  47. Hello my account was normal this morning July 29, 2021 then for years I’ve been using my followers app to check who follows and unfollows me. I usually follow accounts. However then today my account got restricted. It says it expires on July 30, 2021. This is the first time this has ever happened to me. What should i do? It only lets me post on my stories but nothing else i cant even edit my profile or like or look at anyone’s profiles. I am nervous my account gets deleted i have so many wonderful memories. Please help thank you

    • Hi Michael, Thank you for reaching out and I am so sorry to hear that. Sadly, Instagram does not allow the use of the third-party app Followers. I have used the same in the past to see who unfollows me but Instagram didn’t like it and restricted my account. The best thing you can do is only post stories and respond to DMs until July 30. Once the block expires, take it very slow when it comes to engaging with posts (like, commend, or even follow people). Try to start with 1 action the first day. If you need to post something for a campaign, only do 1 post the first 24 hours after expiration and then leave it alone. The next day, you can do 2-3 actions, such as liking or commenting or posting. The day after maybe 10 actions. Increase it slowly to teach Instagram that you are not a robot. If you take too many actions immediately after you have been unblocked, you risk getting blocked again right away. Hope this helps!

  48. When I followed too many people at once I got action block in Instagram.but there is no expire date is showing. And I posted pictures after getting action block. And its been almost 3 days and no change ☹can you please share any solution

    • Hi Lekshmi, I am so sorry to hear that! That’s really odd that there is no expiration date. I’d say stop posting anything for a few days and then try again. Note that posting photos is also an action and can continue your action block. The best you can do is to acknoledge the block and not post anything for a few days, not like anything, no following, no unfollowing, etc. Hope this helps!

  49. Dear Sir/Madam,

Please help me. Why why this block will expire 2021-09-10 on Instagram? It is date September 10, 2021. What do you think?

    • Hello Amir, That is the likely expiry date as they are usually for 24 hours only. Has the block expired now?

  50. I have followed too many account in 2 to 3 days. And I got action block for 7 days. After 7 days action block is removed, but I have one question in my mind that is, what after a action block can I grow my Instagram account organically?? I mean after that we care of everything and post regularly and trying to grow our account can we grow it or these action blocks affects our account???

    • Thank you for your comment! After an action block there is not a long-term negative effect on your account that will prevent you from growing organically. There is a chance that it will take some time initially after the block to get back to ‘normal’ but there should not be a long-term effect of an action block. Hope that helps!

  51. Hello, someone can give me some suggests? 2 weeks ago I got and advise that my account will be unlimited blocked, only thing I can do is report it was a mistake, they say I spam, or use for commercial etc…. mu instagram is so small, I had 100 followers, 30-40 post at total, I sent usually one message at week and 10 likes at week, and use really seldom. But they blocked me, I follow istruction on help support, make a photo of me with code, my number etc, but nothing. Exsist some real customer service? Thank you, and sorry my bad english.

    • Hi Davide, Thank you for you comment. Based on your description it does seem unusual that your account would be blocked. Have you linked 3rd party applications to Instagram? This is often a reason for Instagram to block your account. Hope you can get it back soon! Thanks

  52. Hi there,

Just wondering how you got in contact with Facebook as there’s no number and I’m not sure how to message them as you did. This is the 2nd time I’ve been blocked and it’s very frustrating. If you could guide me through on how to get in contact with an actual human that would be great!

    • Hi Bree, I’m so sorry to here that! Absolutely, I went through the Facebook ads manager and sent the Ad support in business manager a message and asked them for help. You will need to have a creator or business account and have it connected to a Facebook page in order to be able to do that. I hope it works out!

  53. Hello sir. iam facing problem on instagram ( try again later we restrict certain activity to protect our community) for last 36 days. But still problem is not fixed. Please gave me ah solution for fix this

    • Hi Thanesh,

Sorry to hear that. Have you tried to uninstall your app, leave it uninstalled for 7 days, then install it again, and try again? Make sure you disconnect any third-party service from Instagram. The longer you are restricted and try to get unrestricted, the more the app thinks you are a robot. The best is not to do anything on Instagram for a week.

      Hope this helps,
      Bettina

      • Hi Bettina!! I read a lot of stuff about these blocking action from IG, but yours was the best!
I would like to know if u could rate wich one the 3 kinds of blockage is the worst.
The one that got n expire date of 7 days, the one of 3 day or 24 hours or the one that got no specifc day?
I`ll try to stay 72 hours without following people on instagram. Because this -Try again- msg has been popping up to me for 4 days. that`s when I decided to stay 72 hours without trying to follow anyone.
Could u please rate for me wich one u think it`s worst?
The one that has 7 days of duration is terrible but at least I know when it finishes n I don`t need to keep trying in each 24 hours n checking by the blocking msg that I`m stiil blocked… so sad this situation… I was reaching 9 thousand followers.

      • Hi, so I’m seeing answers like crazy as to how someone got action blocked bc they were using their account more than ig would have liked. Ok makes sense, but what about myself. Today was the first day I have been on Ig in almost a month. I tried to follow a girl I used to follow back 2 months ago before I took a break from ig and now I get a message stating something about community guidelines when I tried to refollow her. I have not even gotten a message about being blocked what the heck do you recommend for this brain buster?

      • Hi Shannon, Thanks for asking! That is definitely a strange one as usually IG will start blocking after someone does a lot of likes/comments/follows all at once, and not just for one instance. It could be they thought something was off because you took a break, but to be honest I don’t really have an explanation for that one. Did the block last long and were you able to get it resolved?

  54. Hi! I’m Christienne Pamela Dema-ala, from Philippines. I followed too many people for a short period of time (followed people for 2 days straight). I was warned once and it lifted for a couple of hours and then I followed many people again (which is very wrong. I totally forgot that I should not do it and I didn’t know I can get banned again). Until now, I have been facing this kind of issue for 6 days already stating “Try Again Later We limit how often you can do certain things on Instagram, like following people, to protect our community.” I have reported the problem for several times already without any luck. I also followed a post that I will cancel my request to those people who are in private accounts and still not accepted my request. I also changed my password, logged out in all devices and deleted all my Instagram app in my devices. I can still like photos , leave comments and unfollow but I STILL CAN’T FOLLOW. What will I do? Hoping for your response.

    • Hi Christienne, Thank you for your comment! Since, as you mentioned you did a lot of following in a short period of time, the best way to restore your account for all functions is to take a break from Instagram for perhaps 1 week, and at the very least a break from any following for 1 week to allow the blocks to expire. Hope that helps and it is fixed soon!

    • Hi, has this been resolved as yet? What exactly did you do to resolve it and how long did it take?

  55. Hi,may I ask why Instagram restrict me to chat messages even after the date is expired?

    • Hello, thank you for your comment! It’s not uncommon for Instagram to have multiple restrictions, or blocks, immediately after each other. However, this generally only happens when the restricted action (liking, commenting, following) is occurring too often. DM chat messages generally should always continue to work. The best way to hope to have the block removed, is to take a break from Instagram for 24 hours minimum, and the longer the better, to allow the block to expire. Hope this helps!

  56. Hey, i want to know why instagram is blocking my account again and again i did nothing against the community guidelines i am unable to like comment and share on instagram. Please unblock my account.Instagram gives me specific then unblock me for some hours and then again block me. Please help.

  57. My instagram temperature is blocked today is its date but it will not be unblocked yet don’t know when it will be unblocked please

  58. I cannot follow, unfollow even like, I am unable to do anything with my account, it’s been about 1 week nothing is been fixed yet. It’s written on massage when I want to like this massage appear ” Try again later
We restrict certain activity to protect our community ” So how to fix my account

    • Hi Pranjal, that sounds like a difficult situation. During the week it has been restricted, have you tried to follow/unfollow/like? Each time you attempt to do something it can sometimes reset the timeline block with Instagram. Our suggestion is to delete the app and not use it for at least a week. Then slowly begin using the app again, starting with just 1 like. Hope that helps!

    • Hi there, was your problem solved? and if yess how ?
