Does pandemic unemployment count as income for snap 2022

Emergency allotments to end for SNAP households after May 2022

In March 2020, the Families First Coronavirus Response Act (FFCRA) allowed for the issuance of emergency allotments to households receiving Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits based on a state of emergency. As such, your household has been receiving pandemic-SNAP (P-SNAP) benefits in addition to your regular SNAP benefits to help address temporary food needs during the pandemic. After May 2022, no additional P-SNAP benefits will be issued. You will continue to receive your regular SNAP benefits in your EBT account based on the last two digits of the head of household’s client ID number.

2. How do I find my normal monthly SNAP benefits?

Your household's normal monthly SNAP benefits can be found in your latest SNAP Notice of Decision. You can view your notices in the Customer Portal at www.gateway.ga.gov.

3. How do I report changes to my income, household size, or other eligibility factors?

Please call the Customer Contact Center at 877-423-4746 so your benefits may be updated.

4. What should I do now to prepare?

In May 2022, your family should prepare and seek out any needed resources to accommodate this reduction to your benefits as the supplement will no longer be offered. You will receive your regular SNAP benefits on your Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) card beginning in June 2022 on your regularly scheduled issuance date. Remember, the change in your benefit amount is due to the expiration of the emergency P-SNAP benefits in Georgia, not due to changes in your individual case.

Helpful Information:

  • Beginning June 1, 2022, monthly SNAP benefits will return to their regular eligibility benefit amounts.
  • The federal government allowed Georgia to issue SNAP benefits to the maximum amount through April 2022. May 2022 will serve as a transition month as the additional assistance ends.
  • If your SNAP household has experienced an increase in your household size or a decrease in your income or costs associated with shelter, child care, court-ordered child support, or utility costs for example, and you have not yet reported these, you should do so. Reporting these changes may result in an increase in your regular monthly benefit amount. Verification documents of any reported changes may be required.
  • Adults 60 years of age or older and/or people with disabilities should report medical bills over $35 per month. Verification of these reported changes are required and could provide justification for a possible increase in monthly SNAP benefits.
  • To report a household change, you can visit www.gateway.ga.gov and submit the change(s) online along with verification documents for the reported change. You can report changes over the phone at 877-423-4746, but verification documents for each reported change are required after reporting them.
