Capital one venture rewards credit card airline partners

Capital One is a reasonably new player in the world of transferrable rewards, having only launched its airline transfer partners in late 2018. Originally known as a fixed-value rewards program, the expansion of Capital One’s rewards program to include transfer partners has made it a lot more valuable for current cardholders, and a lot more attractive to points and miles fans across the board.

Despite the program’s status as a relative newcomer, Capital One’s airline transfer program features some strong airline partners. There is also plenty of overlap with existing transferrable currencies like American Express Membership Rewards, Citi ThankYou Rewards, and Chase Ultimate Rewards, making it a great option to complement your existing rewards portfolio.

In this post, we walk you through the pros and cons of Capital One’s airline transfer partners, plus run through some real-life examples to demonstrate the value (or lack thereof) of each program.

Capital One Transfer Rates

There are 18 Capital One transfer partners: 15 airlines and three hotels. The number of points you'll receive for each Capital One mile varies by partner. In April 2021, Capital One improved the transfer rates and added new transfer partners. Then, in October 2021, Capital One improved rates again.

Currently, the transfer rate for most partners is 1,000 Capital One miles = 1,000 airline or hotel points. But, for a couple of Capital One partners, 1,000 Venture miles will convert to either 750 or 500 points.

Capital One Airline Partners

AeroMexico Club Premier

AeroMexico is a member of SkyTeam Alliance—which includes Delta, Air France, KLM, and Alitalia, among many others. Club Premier can be a confusing program since its awards are priced in kilometers instead of miles. To fairly compare prices with other airline award charts, you have to divide Club Premier award prices by 1.6.

Unlike Amex Membership Rewards, which transfer to AeroMexico at 1:1.6 (1,000 points converts to 1,600 Club Premier points), Capital One miles transfer at a ratio of 1:1. This program isn't likely to be one of the best ways to use Capital One miles.

AeroMexico generally isn’t great for economy tickets. But, there are some competitive prices on business class fares. You’ll have to rack up some serious miles to take advantage of them, though. For example, flights from the U.S. to Japan and South Korea cost 180,000 Capital One miles roundtrip, with limited fuel surcharges. You can also fly business class from the U.S. to Europe or Russia (yes, all of Russia) for just over 160,000 Capital One miles round trip.

One of the best features of AeroMexico Club Premier is its Round the World Pass, which allows you to fly to up to 15 destinations (maximum five per continent) for 224,000 Capital One miles in economy and just over 350,000 Capital One miles in business class.

Transfers from Capital One to Club Premier are generally instant. Check out our in-depth guide to the best AeroMexico Club Premier awards and sweet spots for more info.

Air Canada Aeroplan

Air Canada is a member of Star Alliance. So, in addition to flights on Air Canada, you can use Aeroplan miles to book flights on other Star Alliance members like United, Lufthansa, and Singapore. Aeroplan uses a combination mileage- and region-based chart. And thankfully Aeroplan eliminated its once-hefty fuel surcharges.

For example, a one-way flight from Vancouver to Tokyo in business class is 55,000 Aeroplan points. Capital One miles transfer at a 1:1 rate to Aeroplan.

The best part about Aeroplan is its flexible routing rules: you can add a stopover for just 5,000 more points. So, if you’re adventurous, you can plan some trips that include additional destinations. You can read more about the Aeroplan program here.

Air France-KLM Flying Blue

Flying Blue is the rewards program for Air France and KLM. You can use Flying Blue miles to book travel on Delta, Alitalia, Korean Air, and other SkyTeam alliance airlines.

There are two main ways to get great value out of Flying Blue miles. The first is Flying Blue Promo Rewards, which offers discounts of 25% to 50% on award flights to and from specific cities. It’s possible to book economy flights to Europe for as few as 14,500 Flying Blue miles each way, and miles transfer 1:1 from Capital One.

Capital one venture rewards credit card airline partners

The second Flying Blue sweet spot is that it offers far better prices than other programs to select destinations. That’s because, like many rewards programs, Flying Blue uses a region-based award chart to determine prices. But Flying Blue categorizes some countries differently than most. For example, Algeria, Morocco, Tunisia, Libya, and the Canary Islands are all part of Europe, according to Flying Blue.

You can learn more about places for which Flying Blue offers excellent value in our guide to Air France/KLM Flying Blue award sweet spots.

Avianca LifeMiles

Avianca is one of the best Capital One transfer partners. Avianca is a member of Star Alliance, so you can use LifeMiles on carriers like United, Air Canada, Lufthansa, and Singapore. Unlike most of Capital One's other transfer partners, you won’t have to pay fuel surcharges when booking tickets with LifeMiles. This can save you hundreds of dollars compared to booking the same flights with Aeroplan or Singapore miles. Capital One miles transfer to Avianca at a 1:1 ratio.

Avianca’s award charts are somewhat convoluted, but generally offer solid values across the board. For example, domestic economy flights in the U.S. cost 7,500 to 12,500 LifeMiles each way, and flights from the U.S. to Europe cost 20,000 to 30,000 LifeMiles in economy or 60,000 to 63,000 LifeMiles in business class.

If you book a connecting flight, Avianca lets you save a few miles by choosing economy, business, and first-class on a flight-by-flight basis. For example, on a flight from San Francisco to Barcelona via Zürich, you can save 2,560 LifeMiles by choosing to fly from Zürich to Barcelona in economy instead of business class (which is just the same economy seats with the middle seat blocked). Most airlines charge you the full business class rate if any segment of your trip is in business class—even if it’s the shortest flight!

Capital one venture rewards credit card airline partners

Perhaps the biggest challenge with LifeMiles is Avianca's website. It won’t always show award seats even if another Star Alliance partner can book them, and you’ll sometimes find award space when searching segment-by-segment but not for an entire trip (Using the same example above, it might show you San Francisco–Zürich and Zürich–Barcelona, but not San Francisco–Zürich–Barcelona).

When this happens, it’s possible to request a manual booking by emailing LifeMiles customer service with screenshots of the available flights on its website. But it can take a couple of days to get a ticket booked this way—meaning you could end up transferring points only to have award space disappear before you’re able to book. Transfers from Capital One to LifeMiles are generally instant.

British Airways Executive Club

British Airways Executive Club is a valuable option for folks with Capital One Miles because it offers access to a huge number of destinations. And thanks to a unique award chart, flights booked through this program sometimes require far fewer points than the competition.

British Airways is a member of the Oneworld alliance. That means you can use Avios points to book flights with more than a dozen Oneworld member airlines. In addition, British Airways has a handful of independent partnerships with airlines outside of the Oneworld alliance, the most notable of which is Dublin-based AerLingus. Combined with a massive fleet and a huge list of destinations served by British Airways itself, Avios points can get you almost anywhere you want to go.

British Airways uses a distance-based award chart, instead of a region-based chart like most other loyalty programs. This means that if a flight falls within a shorter mileage range, there's a chance it could cost much less than the same award flight with a region-based award chart.

Related: A Beginners Guide to Award Pricing

For example, short-haul saver award flights in the United States cost around 12,500 miles with American Airlines miles, although you can sometimes book for cheaper through Web Special awards. With British Airways Avios, you can redeem for flights under 650 miles for just 7,500 Avios.

A flight from Salt Lake City (SLC) to Phoenix (PHX) can cost 12,500 American Airlines miles. Or, you can use Avios to book the same flight for just 7,500 miles. Check out this post to learn more about using Avios to book flights on American Airlines.

Outside of the United States, flights under 650 miles cost even fewer Avios. Flights from Madrid to Barcelona run just 4,500 Avios one way during off-peak season.

Cathay Pacific Asia Miles

Cathay Pacific is a member of the Oneworld alliance, so Asia Miles are great for booking flights on other Oneworld airlines like American, Japan Airlines, Qantas, and LATAM. Asia Miles passes on fuel surcharges for airlines that have them, like British Airways and Qatar, so you might want to avoid those carriers.

Be aware that Asia Miles can be complicated. It has three separate award charts—and its partner award chart isn’t published online. Only some of its partners can be booked through the Asia Miles website, and search results are cluttered with flights that don’t have any seats available. But if you’re patient, there's solid value to be found.

Award prices are competitive with other programs and sometimes offer significantly better value—especially in business class and first class. Like Avianca, Capital One miles transfer to Cathay Pacific at a 1:1 rate.

One of the best things about Asia Miles is its flexible routing rules—if you’re flying all Oneworld airlines, you can have up to five stopovers on a round-trip itinerary. Award ticket prices are distance-based, calculated from your total trip distance (rather than individual segments). So, this can be a particularly good option if you plan to visit several different cities in the same region.

If you’re planning ahead and looking to travel in business class or first class on Cathay Pacific, Asia Miles will also get you access to award seats several weeks earlier than miles from most partner programs. Unfortunately, transfers from Capital One take up to five days to process.

Emirates Skywards

Emirates is one of the Capital One transfer partners that isn't in an airline alliance. It also has limited partner airlines. You can find some niche cases where Skywards makes sense for Emirates award flights. With a 1:1 transfer ratio, Skywards can be a good use of Capital One miles.

For example, Emirates flights from New York (JFK) to Milan and Newark to Athens are generally a decent value: economy tickets cost 45,000 Skywards miles roundtrip (less than most programs); 90,000 Skywards miles roundtrip in business; and 170,000 Skywards miles roundtrip in First.

It's also worth noting that Emirates charges a premium for one-way award tickets. While a business class round trip can be booked for 90,000 Skywards, you'll find one-way tickets on the same route cost 72,500 miles.

Check out our full list of good value redemptions using Emirates Skywards.

Etihad Guest

This is another of the Capital One transfer partners that isn't in an alliance. Etihad has an interesting collection of partners—including some significant airlines like American, Alitalia, and Brussels. It also partners with several smaller carriers like Air Serbia, Philippine Airlines, and Royal Air Maroc which are hard to book otherwise. Ironically, Etihad Guest has pretty terrible rates for flights on Etihad itself.

Capital One miles transfer at a 1:1 rate to Eithad. And, thanks to its partnerships, it's one of the best options to redeem Venture Miles.

Flights on American Airlines can be a particularly good deal as Etihad’s award chart for American Airlines flights is very similar to what American itself charged several years ago before devaluations. Highlights include 25,000 Etihad miles one-way for domestic business class—including transcontinental flights with lie-flat seats like Los Angeles to New York—and 50,000 Etihad miles one-way for business class from the U.S. to Japan.

Etihad has a different award chart for each partner. So, you'll need to figure out which airline is operating your flights before you can look up the price. To check availability or book partner flights, you’ll need to call the Etihad Guest service center. Transfers from Capital One can be immediate, and partner awards must be booked at least 24 hours before departure.

EVA Air Infinity MileageLands

When it comes to award tickets, EVA Air Infinity MileageLands doesn’t have a lot to offer beyond an unusual program name. Virtually all routes that EVA offers can be booked for fewer miles with Avianca LifeMiles, Air Canada Aeroplan, or Singapore KrisFlyer (though that program has a worse transfer ratio from Capital One).

EVA Air also passes on fuel surcharges from partner airlines (just like Air Canada and Singapore). Unlike Singapore Airlines, any EVA Air flight you can book with Infinity MileageLands miles should also be bookable with miles from other partners. In short, we can't find a good reason to transfer miles to EVA. But, let us know if we missed something.

Finnair Plus

Finnair is a member of the Oneworld alliance. So, you can use these miles to book flights with Oneworld airlines like American, British Airways, Japan Airlines, Qantas, and Alaska Airlines. At first blush, Finnair’s prices for partner awards are terrible. For example, a domestic coach flight on American costs 27,000 Finnair miles each way.

That said, there are a couple of spots on Finnair’s award chart worth considering. The first is flights within Northern Europe—which stretches from Reykjavik, Iceland to Moscow, Russia.

Capital one venture rewards credit card airline partners

Flying with Finnair anywhere in this region can still be a solid value. Awards cost just 15,000 miles roundtrip in economy or 25,000 miles roundtrip in business class. Keep in mind, though, that intra-Europe a ‘business class’ seat just means there will be no one in the middle seat next to you. So, unless you need a large baggage allowance—or really want to visit the sauna at the Finnair lounge in Helsinki—it’s probably not worth the extra miles.

For a European airline, Finnair has an unusually broad definition of Europe, including Tel Aviv and even Dubai. Roundtrip flights on Finnair from the U.S. to Europe cost 90,000 Finnair miles in economy or 160,000 Finnair miles in business class. These prices aren't competitive for destinations that are actually in Europe. But it might be worth considering for flights from North America to the Middle East.

Capital one venture rewards credit card airline partners

If you decide to transfer miles to Finnair, you’ll want to book a roundtrip flight — as one-way flights are a much worse deal. Try to book online if possible since Finnair will charge you an extra 1,000 miles for phone bookings. Transfers from Capital One to Finnair are usually instant.

Qantas Frequent Flyer

Qantas is a member of the Oneworld alliance. So, you can use Qantas Points to book flights on American, Cathay Pacific, Japan Airlines, Alaska Airlines, and other Oneworld members. Qantas also partners with several other airlines, including China Eastern, Emirates, Westjet, Air Niugini, Air Vanuatu, and Airnorth.

Capital One miles transfer to Qantas at a 1:1 ratio.

Like Cathay Pacific Asia Miles, Qantas has a distance-based award chart that calculates the price of your ticket based on the total distance flown. The best value tends to be for short trips: you’ll pay 8,000 points each way for flights under 600 miles and 12,000 points each way for journeys between 600-1,200 miles in length.

Qantas doesn’t charge fees for booking close to departure, and the Qantas website is much better at searching for and booking complex itineraries like travel between small U.S. airports than most partner airlines.

After tickets have been issued, you’ll have to pay 5,000 miles to make changes and 6,000 miles to cancel, which can be a good deal compared to other airlines if you're not completely sure about your travel dates or have to cancel for an unexpected reason. Transfers to Qantas take approximately 24 hours.

Singapore KrisFlyer

Singapore Airlines is often an excellent option for booking flights on Star Alliance airlines like United, Air Canada, Lufthansa, Thai Airways, and other Star Alliance members. KrisFlyer offers reasonable prices, no close-in fees, and you can transfer points from just about every transferrable points program: American Express Membership Rewards, Chase Ultimate Rewards, Citi ThankYou Points, Marriott Convoy, and, of course, Capital One miles.

The transfer rate from Capital One miles to Singapore KrisFlyer is also 1:1.

Using Capital One miles for KrisFlyer bookings is especially great if you need to combine with points from another credit card company. You could transfer to Singapore to book deals like United Airlines economy flights from the U.S. to Hawaii for 17,500 KrisFlyer miles or 27,500 KrisFlyer miles for an economy flight from the U.S. to Europe on any Star Alliance partner.

Transferring to KrisFlyer is also the only way to book Singapore’s luxury Suites Class on the Airbus A380 because Singapore reserves this award space for its own members. You can redeem 86,000 KrisFlyer miles to fly from New York to Frankfurt in Suites Class.

Capital one venture rewards credit card airline partners

KrisFlyer passed on fuel surcharges from airlines that charge them. So, your out-of-pocket cost can vary dramatically from $5.60 to $500 or more depending on the airline operating your flight and the itinerary. If the flight you’re looking at has significant fees attached, Avianca LifeMiles or United MileagePlus may be better options. That's because LifeMiles and MileagePlus don't pass on fuel surcharges.

Transfers from Capital One to Singapore KrisFlyer take about 1 day to process. Learn more about the KrisFlyer program in our post on Singapore KrisFlyer sweet spots.

TAP Air Portugal (Miles&Go)

As a member of the Star Alliance since 2005, TAP Air Portugal gives you the ability to book with airlines like United, ANA, and Avianca. As exciting as that sounds, TAP's partner award chart is less than favorable. You're probably better off using other miles like Avianca Lifemiles to book the same flights.

Another nail in the coffin when it comes to TAP Portugal's loyalty program is that it tacks on carrier-imposed fees. You can expect to pay some hefty costs depending on which partner you book with.

Due to the high out-of-pocket costs and relatively uncompetitive prices, transferring your Capital One Venture miles to TAP Air Portugal is not recommended.

Turkish Airlines (Miles&Smiles)

Capital One added Turkish Airlines Miles&Smiles as a transfer partner in April 2021, and this loyalty program is one to get excited about. Miles&Smiles offers some outsized value for flights with its Star Alliance partners—especially on flights within the U.S. that are operated by United Airlines.

A one-way economy ticket from JFK to SFO costs just 7,500 Turkish miles (1:1 transfers from Capital One). For business class, the price is just 12,500 miles—the same number of miles you would pay to fly in economy on many other airlines. The same business class flight would cost 37,500 miles if booked with United miles! Turkish does pass on carrier-imposed fees on award tickets, but domestic flights on United cost only $5.60 each way in taxes.

Capital one venture rewards credit card airline partners

Turkish used to make it much harder to redeem for partner flights, but many options are available to book online now. Just head to the Turkish Airlines book Star Alliance tickets page and log in. Input flights, dates, and all the info. Make sure to select the tiny little box that says “Award Ticket–Buy a Ticket with Miles.”

For more Turkish Miles&Smiles sweet spots, check out this post.

Virgin Red (including Virgin Atlantic)

Newest on the list of Capital One transfer partners is number 18: Virgin Red. Transfers went live on March 30, 2022. Virgin Red is the loyalty program of all Virgin brands, which includes Virgin Atlantic. That means we can take advantage of some great sweet spots with Virgin Atlantic Flying Club.

One redemption stands out for its incredible value: flying ANA first class.

Capital one venture rewards credit card airline partners
Flying Club ANA award chart

Look at the yellow mark to see the first-class pricing between Japan and Europe, Central & Eastern USA, or Mexico. That covers a lot of regions, with Australia, Western USA, and Canada is even cheaper. Remember that these are round-trip prices for ANA first-class flights. That's quite a deal for tickets that would cost $10,000+ in cash.

Capital One Hotel Partners

When Capital One first introduced the ability to transfer points in late 2018, the partner loyalty programs didn't include any hotels. Since then, Capital One has added several hotel partners: Transfers to Accor Live Limitless and Wyndham Rewards went live in February 2020. Choice Privileges was announced as the third hotel transfer partner in April 2021, but the ability to make transfers didn't start until January 2, 2022.

Accor Live Limitless

Accor Hotels may not be the most well-known hotel group in the U.S. However, it can come in handy when you can't find a good deal with one of the other hotel chains. Accor boasts 5,000 hotels across 39 brands in 110 countries, including high-end brands like Fairmont and Raffles as well as more affordable options like Novotel and Ibis.

Capital one venture rewards credit card airline partners

The Accor loyalty program was rebranded in 2019 and positioned as a “lifestyle loyalty program” Accor Live Limitless. Like most loyalty programs, Accor Live Limitless (ALL) members can earn and redeem points in a variety of ways including, hotel stays, dining programs, and retail purchases. The ALL program has partnerships with a host of great brands. ALL members can earn and redeem with airline programs like Air France/KLM and Qatar Airways; transportation companies like Eurocar and Eurostar; and even a French football club!

To use ALL points for hotel stays, the program has a pretty straightforward redemption process. Members must redeem in increments of 2,000 points for a discount of 40 euros. Here’s the U.S. dollar value of 2,000 points with today’s exchange rate. There are no blackout dates but it is important to note that not all Accor Hotels participate in the loyalty program. Be sure to look for the symbol below when searching online for a stay.

ALL also offers plenty of ways to redeem points for what it calls “Limitless Experiences”. These special redemptions provide ALL members with some unique options to find value in their points.

Capital One cardholders can now transfer miles to the Accor Live Limitless program at a 2:1 ratio. So 1,000 Capital One miles will get you 500 ALL Rewards points. As always, it will be important for members to do the math to determine when it will make sense to transfer Capital One miles. In many cases, you may be better off paying for your stay with your Capital One credit card and redeeming miles for an offsetting statement credit.

As a rule of thumb, redeeming Capital One miles for a statement credit is usually the better deal when the value of the Euro is close to that of the dollar. When the exchange rate is over $1 per Euro, transfers to ALL become more attractive.

Wyndham Rewards

With more than 9,000 hotels across 22 brands in over 80 countries, Wyndham Hotels and Resorts offer a lot of options for travelers to explore. You can transfer Capital One miles to Wyndham points at a 1:1 rate.

The Wyndham Rewards program isn't the most lucrative. But, it offers some nice earning and redemption options that make it worth a closer look. Through partnerships, Wyndham Rewards members can book free and discounted stays at over 30,000 hotels, vacation club resorts, and vacation rentals around the world.

Wyndham has a simpler program than many other hotel chains with only three free night tiers for participating properties:

  1. 7,500 points per night per bedroom
  2. 15,000 points per night per bedroom
  3. 30,000 points per night per bedroom

As always, you'll need to do some searching to find the redemptions that make sense. But there are good deals to be had: It's possible to book a beachfront studio at the Wyndham Reef Resort in Grand Cayman for 30,000 points a night. A week-long stay would run 210,000 points. Compared to a cash price of $3,146.08 for the same stay (including taxes and fees), redeeming points offers a solid value of nearly 1.5 cents per point. It's not a record-breaking redemption but provides reasonable value for Wyndham Rewards points.

Choice Hotels (Choice Privileges)

Capital One cardholders can transfer miles to Choice Privileges—the loyalty program of Choice Hotels—at a 1:1 rate.

While this chain isn't generally known for its luxurious accommodations, its large footprint makes them a convenient option—especially in areas where some of the more high-end brands have no presence. One of the best uses for Choice hotels is for locations outside of the U.S., where Choice options include historic and unique boutique properties via the Ascend Hotel Collection. Free nights start at just 6,000 points per night in Australia and New Zealand or 8,000 points elsewhere—such as in Tokyo and other parts of Japan.

Unfortunately, the transfer rate for Venture points to Choice hotels, even at 1:1, often results in far less value than transferring your Venture points to an airline. Even so, it is always nice having more options for your points and miles.

Tips for Maximizing Capital One Partners

  1. Always check to make sure that flights are available for booking before transferring miles to a partner airline.
  2. Check cash prices for your flight or hotel. Since you can redeem Capital One miles for travel at a rate of one cent per point, in some cases, you’ll save miles and money by redeeming miles for a cash booking instead of transferring them to a partner.
  3. Remember that each of Capital One’s airline partners has its own list of partner airlines. You don’t have to be flying one of the 15 airlines listed here to use your Capital One miles. If you aren't familiar with this, check out our beginner's guide to airline alliances and partnerships.
  4. Points transfers are irreversible. You can never transfer points back to Capital One, so plan carefully.
  5. Compare the total cost: several airlines can be booked with multiple transfer partners. Some partners have better transfer rates than others. Be sure to compare the total number of Capital One miles required plus how much you’ll have to pay in taxes and fees before deciding where to transfer points.

Improvements to Capital One Partners

It can be tricky to keep up with all the program-related news, so here's a quick summary of the recent changes made by Capital One.

March 2022

Capital One added Virgin Red as its 18th transfer partner. For most travelers, Virgin Red will be a useful transfer partner as an intermediary to get Virgin points to book through Flying Club.

October 2021

Capital One improved the transfer ratios to 1:1 for six existing airline partners:

  • Air Canada (Aeroplan) — from 4:3 to 1:1
  • Air France/KLM (Flying Blue) — from 4:3 to 1:1
  • British Airways (Executive Club) — from 4:3 to 1:1
  • Emirates (Skywards) — from 2:1 to 1:1
  • Singapore (KrisFlyer) — from 2:1 to 1:1
  • Turkish Airlines (Miles&Smiles) — from 4:3 to 1:1

However, Capital One lost Brex as a transfer partner as of October 24, 2021. And the Alitalia MilleMiglia loyalty program ceased to exist.

April 2021

Capital One added four new transfer partners and improved the transfer ratio for seven existing partners. New partners were:

  • TAP Air Portugal (Miles&Go) — 1:1 transfer ratio
  • British Airways (Executive Club) — 2:1.5 transfer ratio
  • Turkish Airlines (Miles&Smiles) — 2:1.5 transfer ratio
  • Choice Hotels (Choice Privileges) — 1:1 transfer ratio (Transfers to Choice are not yet available; Capital One says these will go live later in 2021)

The following partners, which previously received transfers from Capital One at a 2:1.5 ratio, moved to a 1:1 ratio:

  • AeroMexico (Club Premier)
  • Avianca (LifeMiles)
  • Cathay Pacific (Asia Miles)
  • Etihad Airways (Etihad Guest)
  • Finnair Plus
  • Qantas (Frequent Flyer)
  • Wyndham Rewards

May 2020

Capital One removed two airline transfer partners:

  • Hainan Fortune Wings
  • Qatar Privilege Club

February 2020

Capital One added two hotel transfer partners:

  • Accor Live Limitless (ALL) — 2:1 transfer ratio
  • Wyndham Rewards — Initially added at a 2:1.5 transfer ratio; now 1:1

Final Thoughts

Capital One has a solid lineup of transfer partners, each of which lets you use miles on dozens of partner airlines. In cases where more than one transfer partner can book the same flight, you'll have the benefit of comparing the number of points required and the total out-of-pocket cost before deciding where to move your miles.

For U.S.-based flyers, the biggest drawback to Capital One's program is the lack of a U.S. transfer partner. Still, if you learn to utilize the major airline alliances, you can find award travel to virtually every spot on the globe.

Can I use Capital One miles to book travel for others?

Airline transfer partners will generally let you use your points to book travel for others (Some have restrictions though. For example, Singapore limits the number of other people for whom you can book tickets). However, it's almost always against their rules to make an award booking in exchange for money or other compensation. As long as you’re just booking flights for friends and family, you shouldn't have any issues. When redeeming Capital One miles for a fixed-value against travel costs you have charged to your Capital One card, you can book travel for anyone.
