Campbells Biology is generally the text book every intro biology class in colleges are taught from. Every lab in my university has a copy floating around.

My space inherited a 7th edition copy, while I have my own 9th. Editions are largely meaningless, but it's a good book series. Don't worry about the edition, but its a great starting spot.

You might look into a general syllabus, as not every chapter is often taught. Or go for the gusto and read it all.
