How to download pictures from sd card to computer

You can transfer photos to and from a memory card inserted into your product's memory card slots and a computer connected to your product.

Note: Do not transfer photos to and from a memory card while you are printing from the memory card.

Note: Your product's LCD screen does not update to display new photos transferred to the memory card. Wait until the memory card access light stops flashing, then remove and insert the memory card to update the photos displayed.

If you cannot load your photos onto your computer from your camera or phone’s SD card, you can troubleshoot the issue to recover your pictures. If you can copy other files from the SD card, but you cannot copy image files, your image files are probably saved in a format that is not recognized by the computer. If you plug the SD card into an SD card reader on your computer and the operating system prompts you to format the card as a blank disk, the card has become corrupt and unreadable. However, you may be able to recover your photos with a specialized recovery tool.

Check USB Connection or SD Card Reader

  1. The first step to take if your photos will not copy to your computer from your device’s SD card is to ensure that the device is connected to your computer or the SD card reader on your computer is working. If using a card reader, insert another SD card. If the card reader successfully reads the alternate card, then your card reader is functioning properly. When copying image files while your device is connected to your computer with the USB cable, try a different USB port. Transfer another file format to and from the SD card using File Explorer to test the connection.

Image File Format

  1. If you adjusted file format settings on your camera or phone before taking pictures, you may have saved the photos in a format that is not compatible with your computer’s operating system. If you can view the photos from your camera or device, but you cannot load them to your computer from the SD card, the file format settings were likely modified. Check the user manual for your camera or device to learn how to reset the default file type for saving your photos to JPEG or another compatible format.

Unreadable Card

  1. If you have used SD cards for a while, you may have encountered the situation where you place your camera’s SD card in your computer’s card reader only to receive the message that the card is not formatted. The dialog box asks if you want to format the card. When you encounter this message, do not format the card! If you format the card, the image files are permanently lost.

At this point, you have two choices. You can either pay a data recovery service to recovery your pictures, or you may be able to recover the photos yourself with a recovery tool, such as Zero Assumption Recovery, Pandora Recovery or Recover Files (see Resources). Insert the SD card into a card reader on your computer, and then install and launch the recovery tool. Select the damaged card as the drive to recover. Run the recovery tool on the selected drive to recover damaged files.

Physically Damaged Card

  1. If the SD card has been physically damaged by water or heat, you can try to use a recovery tool, if you can insert the card into the reader. There is a small chance that you may be able to recover some of the images from the card. Unfortunately, if the card is damaged, the likelihood of recovery is low. A data recovery specialist may be able to recover some or all of the data for you.

MicroSD cards can store huge amounts of data, and are used in digital cameras, phones and similar devices to store pictures, videos and even audio recordings. To transfer pictures from your microSD card to your office PC, you need a microSD card reader that enables your Windows 7 operating system to communicate with the card and pull the data from it.

  1. Connect the microSD card reader to your computer. You can plug some readers directly into a free USB port on your PC, while for others you need to use a USB cable to make the connection.

  2. Plug the microSD card into the card reader. Windows 7 detects the device and assigns a drive to it.

  3. Click the "Start" button and select "Computer" to launch Windows Explorer, the native file manager.

  4. Select the drive assigned by Windows to your microSD card in the left pane to view the contents of the card in the right pane.

  5. Open the folder that contains the pictures you want to transfer to the PC, if the pictures are not stored in the root folder of the card.

  6. Select the pictures. Press and hold "Ctrl," and then click several pictures to select multiple items, or press "Ctrl-A" to select all pictures in the folder.

  7. Press "Ctrl-C" to copy the pictures to the clipboard.

  8. Navigate to a drive on your hard disk and open the folder where you want to store the pictures.

  9. Press "Ctrl-V" to paste the pictures from the clipboard into the folder.

  10. Wait until all pictures are transferred, then remove the microSD card from the card reader.
