  1. WJ 4.7 Throttle body vacuum hose...Fixed popping off

When I bought the WJ I had to drive it back from Cape Town to Bloemfontein. I enjoyed the drive so much. After around 300km the engine rpm went a bit off beat. It would rise a little then fall a little and when I had to brake the engine rpm would want to stay up there at 2500rpm. This seemed to make the gearbox not wanting to shift down correctly. So I just bought it and the thoughts of me having bought a lemon started. Well we got home fine but it kept bugging me.

Then I did the key trick for error codes and had one. It was TPS related. Took it to my friend to re-calibrate the TPS. Still sometimes it would do strange things like on cold start would hit 2200rpm and stay there for quite some time or until I press the accelerator then it would normalize.

So a month after I got the Jeep I decided to do a service. Took me soooo long to fit all 8 spark plugs! LOL!! Im a tinkerer and decided to take off the airbox expansion thingy in front of the throttle body. Here I noticed that a vacuum tube was dangling down. So I popped it back and went on with the serviceing.

I little after that the irratic idling started again. I opened the hood and again the vacuum tube is disconnected.

So yesterday I got myself some little clamps and fixed the problem once and for all.

Here are some pictures of the vacuum line. Not my pics as I didnt have time to take any. Pics came off http://offroadpassport.com/forum/showthread.php?t=427

Then just cut this rubber adapter so that a clamp can fit in.

Nice one Joe - thanx for sharing.

Certain ppl may have attributed the problem you had to an electronic glitch.

Thanx Thys. I also thought it was a electrical fault. Even got prices on new tps. Started a couple of times today and the idle settles immediately.

Depending on the mileage on your V8, that is probably your problem. Those rubbers are not designed to last forever. I think mine had never been replaced. I replaced them on 179000km. Replaced the two engine mountings and the one tranny mounting.

Where did you have your mountings done and how much are they? Is it possible to diy without removing too much around the engine?

Watch those mountings - if they get too damaged, the drivetrain moves backwards, which can stuff up the rear oil seal on the transfer case, with disasterous consequences.

I bought the mountings from Morris4x4 ... I reckon you could do it yourself. My jeep was in for some suspension work so I just got the guy doing it to replace the engine mountings at the same time
