As I type this recipe for the blog the weather is very, very warm outside. Normally I’d give ice-cream to my boys to cool
them down but I wanted to try something different. My boys are very much into their flavoured milks so I wanted to make them a drink that tasted like chocolate milkshake but icy cold and nourishing without feeling bloated. These Wholesome Chocolate Chillers definitely did the trick – they slurped it all up. Not only were the kids happy that they got their chocolate treat, but mummy is too because, well lets face it, I’m always happy when my kids finish their meals and treats without
complaint. Prep Time and Cooking Time – 5 minutes | Serves – 4 INGREDIENTS – 6 Medjool dates – 2 Tablespoons cocoa powder – 1 can ( 270ml) of coconut milk – ½ teaspoon vanilla essence / extract – 500g ice – 50g milk METHOD Place dates into the TM bowl and chop 8 sec / speed 7. Scrape down the sides of the bowl. Add coconut milk, cocoa and vanilla essence into the TM bowl and mix 6 sec / speed 3. Scrape down the sides of the TM bowl again. Add ice and crush 30 sec – 1 minute / speed 10. You may need to use your spatula to assist in the crushing process and at this point your mixture looks like sorbet. Add milk and mix 8 sec / speed 5. Pour into glasses and give it a bit of a stir before serving icy cold. NOTES AND VARIATIONS When I made this recipe, I used Koko Black’s Cocoa Powder which is sweetened. You can make this healthier and sweeter by adding more dates and replacing the cocoa with unsweetened cocoa or cacao. * Inspired by A Couple Cooks Healthy Chocolate Milkshake * Post navigation |
