What oil does a 2022 honda accord take

Congrats on your purchase and welcome to the forum.

The concensus is that the factory oil is very good. I went 12,000 miles on the factory oil before I changed it and I sent a sample to Blackstone laboratories and the results came back that the oil was still good to go a bit more.

So, that is my experience with factory filled oil and Honda filter. So, up to you to decide when to dump it since it is your car. But know that the oil can easily last over 10,000 miles by the time and the car's MM starts telling you to change it.

As for the choice of engine oil recommendations, the manual says it all. Use any good brand of 0W20 with a good filter. Even if you go to Walmart and get the cheapest full synthetic 0W20 like SuperTech with a decent filter like Fram. All that will work very well in your car. It is your car, so feel feee to take advice from here or modify the advice according to what you want or feel is comfortable to you. It is your car and your money. Do as you please.

For some people like me, I use any oil I want to in my car. I have used and mixed 0W20, 0W30, 5W20 and 5W30 to use at the same time. I am currently using ONLY 0W16 (which is NOT recommended for my car) for a total of 6 oil changes. Then I will go back to using 0W20. I bought my 2020 HAH brand new and it now has 50,000 miles in only 16 months and car drives like the day I drove it off the showroom floor. So, 0W16 works great in my car!

Do not be fooled by the additive packages that all the oil brands claim they have. All oil brands have their own additives that is still good. Choose any decent brand (whether top brand name or walmart brand) and change your oil according to your MM and your car would last forever.

You mentioned you are very picky and you want your car to stay in top shape so it can last a very long time.

Well, keep your car's maintenence according to Honda's recommendation and your car should last forever. Or modify some things according to your comfort level or do whatever you want to do to keep your car in top shape since it is your car and if you do something wrong, you alone get to deal with the consequences.

I believe and assume that each person on the forum is probably taking very good care of their car. So, join us as we each share tips on how to take very good care of our cars. Each may be doing some things a bit differently, but I believe each of our cars should last to over 200,000 miles. There are some people who do not drive their cars often. For those, I am sure those cars can easily last over 20 years and still going ok.

So, treat your car well and it will treat you well also. Though along the way, we will see some people losing an engine or a transmission or a hybrid battery or other things with no fault of theirs but that it was meant to be because they were destined to fail since leaving the factory assembly line.

I do enjoy documenting how I take care of my car and everything I do to it. I had a brand new 2008 Nissan Maxima that lasted 12 years with me and died when it had 268,000 miles. I expect my Honda to beat my Maxima in mileage before it ever dies and needs to be replaced.

If you are bored and want to see some suggestions of what I have done to my car as maintenance so far, feel free to visit my maintenance thread and see. It may give you some ideas and you decide what to do to your car.

It is your car. You paid over $32,000 for it. Feel free to do ANYTHING you want to do to it. If anything goes wrong, only you will suffer a loss. Hence, do whatever you feel is right for you to do to it so that it can always be in top shape and last you forever. Enjoy that car very well. You worked hard for it.

PetitFrereAccord's 2020 HAH maintenance thread...

The Honda Accord is a long-lived passenger car that has evolved from a compact hatchback into a mid-size vehicle.  In order for a car to function properly over the years, it is necessary to maintain it.

The most important maintenance concerns the engine, which is the key element of the car. What kind of oil does a Honda accord take? Most often used compositions with viscosity 0W20, 0W-30, 5W20, 5W30, 5W-40, universal oil 10W30, 10W-40.

Changing the oil in the engine is the first maintenance operation to be performed. While fuel keeps the car moving, oil is essential to protect it and ensure its long life. It is therefore important to replace Honda Accord engine oil regularly.

The right oil for Honda Accord is very important for the proper functioning of the engine and it must be said that it plays its role in extremely difficult conditions.

Indeed, as soon as the engine is started, it must be efficient even if the engine is still cold. The same applies when the engine is under heavy load and internal temperatures reach 130°C. Not only that, but the fluid must also be able to resist metal expansion while performing the functions essential to the engine’s durability, including some cooling of moving parts.

Recommendations: for most car manufacturers, it is necessary to perform an engine oil change every 10,000 to 15,000 km for gasoline engines and every 15,000 to 20,000 km for diesel engines. The new oil will also better remove metal particles, dirt and other impurities from the engine while protecting internal components from corrosion and improving cooling.

Which Oil to Use in a Honda Accord?

What oil does a 2022 honda accord take

Daily maintenance is essential for a comfortable ride. The most popular maintenance expense is an oil change. A Honda Accord equipped with a 2L gasoline engine requires approximately 3.5 liters of oil per oil change. The recommended oil change due to high mileage is roughly 5,000 km or every 6 months.

Honda specifies oil recommendations in the owner’s manual for each type of machine. Original lubricants and quality formulations with similar requirements may be used. Only the best synthetic lubricants are suitable for the latest models of Honda Accord cars, semi-synthetic or mineral oil of high quality can be used for early modifications. Honda recommends SJ, SL, and SM grade lubricants. The SAE standard suitable for Honda Accord engines may vary depending on the temperature ratings of the region of operation.

Many people mistakenly believe that “best motor oil for Honda Accord because it is expensive.” Or many people mistakenly think that if it says “fuel-efficient engine oil,” it will improve fuel efficiency.

If you do not choose the engine oil that suits your engine, no matter how much “high-performance oil” you put in, on the contrary, fuel consumption will worsen, power will decrease, and life will be shortened.

  • Mineral oil

Basic oil type refined from heavy crude oil distilled from crude oil. It is not very strong against heat, so it is easily oxidized and has a large viscosity change with respect to temperature, but it has excellent cost performance.

  • Semi-synthetic oil

This oil is a well-balanced type of 100% chemically synthesized oil and mineral oil. It is an intermediate grade oil with a good balance between performance and cost.

  • 100% Synthetic Oil

Oil is chemically synthesized to provide the appropriate performance for lubricating oil. It always exhibits stable and high performance from low to high temperatures. The price is higher in proportion to the performance.

In terms of viscosity value selection, generally in winter, most areas can use 5W, while in some places in the north, it is best to use 0W lubricant to get better cold start performance and adapt to the driving environment. For high temperature viscosity, generally in summer, the viscosity value of lubricants is generally 20, but if you often drive in congested roads, vehicles are old and belong to long-distance transportation and heavy vehicles, you can appropriately increase the viscosity of lubricants, for example, you can use 0W30 lubricant.

Choose the Honda Accord oil type, focusing on the long-term performance of the oil, choose Mobil lubricant; focusing on the clean performance of the oil, you can use Valvolineoil; if you need the oil film toughness, you can choose Castrol.

I am very satisfied with the purchase and sure I will repeat with this seller because it is difficult to find in stores and less at a price so tight. I had to change the oil of the car and I wanted long life because I can change it at 30,000 km (2 years) instead of 15,000 km (1 year) recommended with other oils. It also depends on the car you have, and if it supports this type of oil. In my case, yes, I saved money.

Frequently Asked Questions

What oil does a 2022 honda accord take

What is the Oil Capacity of a Honda Accord?

The advantage of the Honda Accord is that, as they have been upgraded over the years, they do not lose their lubricant saving capacity. Regardless of whether its engine is more powerful, such as the 6-cylinder, it maintains certain benefits from the 4-cylinder series.

As for what matters, the oil requirement increases slightly between 5 to 5.5 liters as such. Otherwise, the same recommendations apply to good maintenance of the lubrication system as well as the filter.

How Much Oil goes in a Honda Accord?

Many auto experts considered the seventh Accord a worthy competitor to the Volkswagen Passat. The most powerful engine for the seventh Accord was a 2.4-liter 200-horsepower engine.

In 2007, sales of the eighth generation Honda Accord began. This car is considered one of the most successful Accords, despite its handling shortcomings compared to its predecessor. The eighth Accord was radically different from the previous model in terms of design. The most powerful 200-horsepower engine remained the same.

In the ninth generation Accord seriously updated not so much the design as the engine range. As of 2012, the car was offered with 2.4-liter and 3.5-liter engines, rated at 180 and 280 horsepower, respectively.

How to Change Oil in a Honda Accord?

The process of changing the oil in the Honda Accord takes place in several steps:

  • turn off the engine;
  • unscrew the drain plug and drain the old oil to the maximum;
  • change the oil filter;
  • flush the engine Honda Accord with a special cleansing additive (optional);
  • pour new oil.

After completing the procedure for oil replacement Honda Accord start, give some time (3-5 minutes) to work at idle. Then the engine oil level is checked again, and if necessary, top up.

What Viscosity is Right for Me?

Accord models run best with an oil viscosity of either 5W-30 or 10W-30 depending on the temperature in your area. 5W is good for cooler temperatures, while 10W is good for very high temperatures. The Accord holds approximately 4.5 quarts (4.5 L) of oil.

Why Should I use Synthetic Oil?

Synthetic almost 100% because of the additives and detergents they include that help protect the engine and are responsible for improving cold start, keeping the engine and the oil itself free of impurities, and also protecting the filter. So that no doubt your oil will have to be synthetic.

Final Thoughts

Changing your Honda’s oil means replacing the old engine oil with the best synthetic oil for Honda Accord. The oil change should be done between 10,000 km and 15,000 km if you have gasoline, every 7,000 km if you drive a diesel or every year if you drive less.

Best oil brands for Honda Accord is essential for the proper operation and longevity of your Accord’s engine. The timing of these changes depends on two main factors: the engine type of your Honda Accord, and the year it was built.

As you drive, your Honda’s engine oil loses its viscosity, becomes loaded with particles and eventually degrades. This leaves your engine more susceptible to oxidation and pollutants. Changing the oil in your engine is necessary to avoid damaging it and to avoid breakdowns on your Honda.

What type of oil does Honda Accord take?

Mobil 1 - High Mileage 5W-30 Full Synthetic Motor Oil, 5 Quart (Part No. 120769)

How much oil does a 2022 Honda Accord take?

Up to 5 quarts of synthetic oil.

Does Honda require synthetic oil?

Honda engines are developed, tested and certified with petroleum based motor oils as a lubricant. Synthetic oils may be used; however, any motor oil used in our engines must meet all oil requirements as stated in the owner's manual. In addition, recommended oil change intervals must be followed.

What oil does Honda dealership use?
