Things to do with your dad in nyc

Father’s Day is this Sunday! And if you’re anything like us, it likely creeped up on you this year and now it feels like there’s no time left to plan something.

Not to worry! There’s still plenty you can do on short notice for Dad. Here are some of our recommendations:

1. Learn How Make A Fancy Whiskey Cocktail With Him

Liquid Lab’s Virtual Cocktail Class (as seen on the Today Show!) is the perfect way to say “cheers” to dear old Dad. Their special Father’s Day class on Sunday, June 21 will feature cocktails with bourbon, rye or Irish whiskey, although the recipes can be adapted to use any spirit of your choice. This one-hour class includes three specialty cocktails using only one base spirit to minimize cost on your end. You’ll start by getting to know each other with some background on the hosts, and then will dive right into mixing! Reserve your spot here.

And if you’re in Brooklyn, why not pick up your liquor at Happy Cork?

2. Get Some Takeout BBQ

Nothing says Father’s Day quite like BBQ. Though you may not have outdoor space to grill, you can still get some delicious takeout options.

Smoke BBQ Pit in Jamaica, Queens is known for their famous marinated BBQ ribs, as well as smokey pulled pork and mouthwatering half pound burgers. They are currently open for takeout and delivery; you can place your order by calling (718) 341-6100 or visiting their website.

And Concord Hill in Williamsburg, Brooklyn is offering an amazing Father’s Day Burger Kit for 4, including 4 patties made with a 50/50 blend of dry aged and grass fed beef, housemade sesame seed buns, cheese, onion, pickles, and lettuce, as well as coleslaw and truffle potato salad for $39.99. You can also add a six-pack of beer or a bottle of rosé! Orders can be placed by calling 347-463-9322 by Saturday June 20 at 7pm; delivery or pickup can be scheduled for Saturday 6/20 or Sunday 6/21.

Or want something a little more unique? The Gumbo Bros, located on Atlantic Ave in Brooklyn, is back with takeout, delivery, and for the first time Crawfish Boils To Go. You can pre-order “Crawfish 2 Geaux” for pick up on Sunday, June 21. The hot & spicy crawfish are shipped live overnight directly from a family farm in Louisiana and boiled on-site at The Gumbo Bros. Guests can order 3lb (1-2 people), 10lb (3-4 people) or 30lb (10 people) trays. Sides of potato, corn, and sausage are available.

3. Do A Virtual Training Or Group Workout Class

Since we’ve been spending so much time indoors, most of us have been unable to get as much exercise as we’d like. Celeb-favorite gym Iconoclast Fitness in Manhattan is now offering virtual one-on-one personal training, if Dad needs help getting back in shape, or even a group class you can organize with your whole family to get the endorphins pumping. They use Facetime, Zoom, WhatsApp, and Skype. Find out more here. This is also a Black-owned business!

4. Pick-Up (Or Send Him) NYC’s Favorite Cookies

Levain Bakery is doing takeout and delivery, and even nationwide shipping if Dad is in another state! These giant, ooey gooey cookies are most New Yorker’s top sweet treat. Also, did you hear they’re opening their first Brooklyn location in July?

Another great sweet treat if Dad is a chocoholic are these delectable “bean to bar” single origin chocolate bars that are made right here in the city in the South Bronx. Order them online or find out if they are in a store near you here. You’ll also be supporting a Black-owned business.

5. Get Outdoors

Take your Dad on a socially distant, face-covering-clad walk around your favorite spots in the city, your nearby park, or head out for a hike within in the city or a little outside of it. Want something a little more adventurous? Manhattan Kayak is back open for kayak and paddle board rentals right near the Intrepid Ship in Hell’s Kitchen. Reservations are required, and other safety measures are in place, so be sure to read up on their website here.
