I love their music. Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on August 1, 2022 Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on December 1, 2015 I have to agree with reviewer Vicki’s opinion that, as nice a collection as this is of the R&R Hall Of Fame (1989) vocal group The Temptations, it’s hardly definitive. How could it be with just 18 sides when all they did was post 58 singles on aspects of the lucrative Billboard Pop Hot 100 from 1964 to 1991, with 87 registering on the R&B listings, 6 of which also made it to the Adult Contemporary (AC) charts. Regarding those R&B charts, it’s important to remember too that they were shelved by Billboard from late 1963, throughout 1964 and to the end of Jan 1965, and that any results you see today for that span are exactly the same as the Hot 100 results, added later for “historical purposes” and are not a true reflection of how a song ranked in that market. Yes you do get many of their huge # 1 R&B hits among the 16 but almost as many are also omitted from this collection compiled and produced by Harry Weinger, who also writes the 3 pages of liner notes (sprinkled with a couple of nice “in action” shots of the famous quintet , and the sound reproduction by Kevin Reeves at Universal Music Studios East is first rate. A re-listing of the contents in the insert provides writer and producer details as well as backing orchestra and other such details where applicable, but not a true discography showing chart performances/label information so I have provided those in the Comments below. As for what’s missing - and which would fit into any truly “definitive” collection - consider these gems: Dream Come True - their very first hit and a # 22 R&B in May 1962 - Gordy 7001; They also had some huge hits in that span in conjunction with The Supremes on Motown, but since this is a “definitive” collection of their solo music at Gordy that is understandable. Under any other title I would rate it 5 stars, but a truly definitive collection would require two discs and at least 40 songs. Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on July 9, 2022 I love everything about this CD, great old music that lives on forever! Top reviews from other countries4.0 out of 5 stars Tempting You? Reviewed in the United Kingdom 🇬🇧 on May 16, 2019 Look at the playlist. We all have our favourites and, therefore, it doesn't make sense to pick out my choice. Slightly disappointed that my memory of The Temptations did not fully match up to this CD eg "Just My Imagination" I always connect with Smokey Robinson. Minor criticism, I agree, but still valid, though I'm unsure who recorded songs first and which were covers. 5.0 out of 5 stars Pure Motown Gold Reviewed in the United Kingdom 🇬🇧 on January 8, 2017 Sheer bliss listening to this album by one of the great "Tamla Motown" groups. So many classic tracks, such great voices and classy productions which stir up so many great memories. If you love the music of Smokey Robinson, Marvin Gaye, Otis Redding and too many other great Tamla Motown artists to mention I believe you too will love this album. Its obvious I'm a Motown fan but this is really highly recommended. 5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant lovely Reviewed in the United Kingdom 🇬🇧 on March 16, 2022 5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect Reviewed in the United Kingdom 🇬🇧 on May 28, 2021 5.0 out of 5 stars Lady Soul is the best.
