Feed 2.3 quarts (fill 2 quart bottle to the rim) of milk replacer solution twice daily per calf. Adjust feeding rates for small breed calves.

Mix milk replacer powder into water and feed immediately. When preparing large batches, keep the mixture agitated while dispensing into individual feeding containers to prevent any settling. Cool milk replacer solution to body temperature (102°-105°F) before feeding. Always offer clean, free-choice water.

Each animal is an individual. The amount fed may need to be adjusted to support optimal body condition and growth. Animals may need an additional feeding of non-medicated milk replacer or energy supplement during cold weather. Consult with your veterinarian or animal nutritionist if you have questions.

Important Note on Newborn Calf Care: It is highly preferred that the newborn calf receive fresh colostrum from its own mother before beginning a milk replacer program. Colostrum is the first milking from the cow following birth, providing nutrients, growth factors, and immune globulin proteins that are crucial to the health and growth of the calf. Colostrum must be fed as soon as possible after birth for maximum absorption of maternal antibodies in the newborn. If there is not enough high-quality colostrum available, frozen stored colostrum may be substituted. If no fresh or frozen colostrum is available, use Sav-A-Caf® Calf Colostrum 100 Replacer.

Storage:

Store dry milk replacer powder in a tightly sealed container in a cool, dry place. Best if used within 12 months of manufacture. Shelf life can be extended by freezing the dry powder in a tightly sealed container. After mixing powder with water, refrigerate extra milk replacer solution promptly and use within 24 hours after warming to a feeding temperature of 102°-105°F.

How do you mix Sav calf milk replacer?

MIXING DIRECTIONS Add 3 enclosed cups of milk replacer powder (12 oz of powder total) to 2 quarts of warm water (115-120°F) and mix thoroughly. Cool milk replacer solution to body temperature (102°-105°F) before feeding. Always offer clean free-choice water.

What kind of milk replacer is best for calves?

Milk proteins are typically recommended in calf milk replacers, as they are more digestible for calves than non-milk protein sources. Offering a desirable amino acid profile, sources of milk proteins include whey, whey protein concentrate, whey solubles, de-lactosed whey, skim milk and casein.

What is the ratio of milk replacer to water?

It is very important to always follow the recommended mixing instructions when reconstituting milk replacer. One level scoop of powdered milk replacer should be measured and mixed with 2 scoops of hot (60°C) water, a ratio of 1:2 powder to water.

Can you make a homemade milk replacer for calves?

Yes! Farmers have been saving calf lives for centuries with homemade milk replacer recipes. While powdered milk replacer with specially designed formulas is a real help, you can still make your homemade calf milk in a pinch.
