New baltimore memorial day parade 2022

From the skydivers falling from the heavens into the parade line in St. Clair Shores to a new route for Eastpointe, there will be plenty of parades to mark this Memorial Day in Macomb County.

The St. Clair Shores Memorial Day Parade, often billed as the largest in Michigan, steps off at 1 p.m. Sunday. The other processions take place Monday morning.

Here’s where to go to pay your patriotic respect and have a little fun this weekend:

• St. Clair Shores — Even before this one starts, there will be a military flyover that organizers say will rumble the ground. The jets are expected to arrive over the city between 12:40-1 p.m.

It will be followed by a team of Pegasus Skydivers making a precise landing on Harper Avenue.

The parade includes military and veterans groups, public officials, giant unicycles, a cowbell choir, clowns, high school marching bands, beauty queens, a 3-foot piece of Tower Two of the World Trade Center, and all-star athletes such as Danny Dekeyser of the Detroit Red Wings, 1984 Detroit Tigers World Series Champion Dave Rozema, and multiple time world boxing champion Thomas “The Hit Man” Hearns.

Between 60,000 and 80,000 spectators are expected to line Harper Avenue from Ridgeway Street through the finish line at 11 Mile Road.

• Eastpointe — For the first time, the city’s parade is taking a new route.

Instead of starting at City Hall, the procession will begin at 11 a.m. at the Michigan Military Technical and Historical Society on Stephens Road, east of Gratiot Avenue. It will end at Spindler Park on Stephens near Interstate 94.

At the conclusion, the Eastpointe Odd Fellows will serve some refreshments.

• New Baltimore — The parade takes place at 10 a.m. along Washington Street from Front to Green streets in the lakeside city’s downtown area. Following the parade, a ceremony will be held at City Hall.

• Roseville — This Memorial Day Parade moves to a staging area in parking lot of nearby Roseville High School instead of residential streets such as Pinehurst and Wexford.

Thirty-plus participants will proceed down Common Road from east of Utica Road at 10 a.m. to a veterans’ memorial in front of City Hall. A ceremony will be held there honoring the soldiers killed in past wars.

This year’s grand marshal is Big Jim O’Brien, the longtime host of WCSX-FM (94.7)’s morning show “Big Jim’s House.”

• The Sterling Heights parade kicks off from the City Center parking lot and travels south on Dodge Park Road, ending at Heritage Junior High School.

.Lt. Gov. Garlin Gilchrist is scheduled to make brief comments at the ceremony and attend the parade.
