Saber Interactive also helping development

Knights of the old republic remake ps4

The Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic Remake for PlayStation 5 and PC will have updates to share "in the next several months", it's been confirmed. Speaking during the Q4 Embracer Group report (the owner of developer Aspyr Media), board member Matthew Karch explained how Saber Interactive is also lending a hand with development as the game is "basically" being remade from scratch.

Karch said (transcribed by Push Square): "Aspyr has gone full in to make this the best game that they can make. When we acquired Aspyr, we knew from the start that they would require our assistance. Saber has tremendous expertise in creating these types of products. We've done it on Halo — on multiple Halo products — we've done it on other titles that we've remastered over on other platforms."

He then adds: "We're fully confident that the game is going to be fantastic but it's a massive, massive product and massive products require a lot of effort and a lot of time to make good. And especially when you're talking about a game already old — very old — we've basically had to remake that game from scratch. I would say in the next several months you'll be hearing more from us about it."

The Saber Interactive CEO also alludes to the deal Sony has made for the remake, securing it as a PS5 console exclusive. If Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic Remake is indeed set for a reveal in the coming months, then either June's Summer Game Fest Showcase or a rumoured Sony event are probably the two likeliest places for it to appear. Besides the teaser trailer from Sony's September 2021 showcase, no other details have been shared.

STAR WARS KNIGHTS OF THE OLD REPUBLIC STRIKES BACK WITH NEW REMAKE

There are some video games that seem to change everything. Their genre, the art form, what we think a game could be. Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic (known to fans as KOTOR) is among those rare works.

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic Remake will see the classic RPG return as a PlayStation 5 console exclusive at launch and for PC.

KOTOR reborn
Today, KOTOR stands as one of the most critically acclaimed Star Wars games ever, with the PC version amassing a current score of 93 on Metacritic. Fans have long requested a remake to bring the title, originally developed by BioWare and LucasArts, up to modern standards. As it turns out, Lucasfilm has been listening.

KOTOR is one of the most beloved Star Wars stories ever told. As hardware advances and as storytelling techniques advance, what better time to allow players to re-experience this great story and bring it back to modern platforms using modern methods?

Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) is a creative collaborator in the project, working closely on development with Aspyr and Lucasfilm Games, particularly on how to take full advantage of its newest, cutting-edge platform.

KOTOR, which is part of Legends storytelling, dials the Star Wars clock back to over 4,000 years before the Skywalker saga. The Galactic Republic is at its height and has just been through a major war. Jedi are plentiful, but so are the Sith, and the evil Darth Malak leads a growing legion of dark warriors. Players will go on an epic adventure and, along the way, visit different worlds, amass a party of memorable beings, and uncover their own mysterious past.

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic Remake has been announced, bringing the beloved adventure to the modern era, with a full modernisation for both newcomers and fans of the original. Developed by long-time, Star Wars porthouse Aspyr Media, Knights of the Old Republic will launch first on PS5 for console audiences. But, when is the Knights of the Old Republic Remake release date?

Described as a “pinnacle of Star Wars Legends storytelling”, the KOTOR Remake is set more than 4,000 years before the events of the original trilogy in the franchise. The game was considered the best Star Wars game ever made until Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order was released, but some still maintain that KOTOR has that title.

But, what do we know about the Knights of the Old Republic Remake release date and how is the game being upgraded for modern consoles and PC? Read on to find out more.

The Knights of the Old Republic Remake doesn’t have a release date yet.

Originally it seemed like a release in 2023 or 2024 was possible. However, the project is now on pause at Aspyr as the company fired the game’s art director, Jason Minor, and design director, Brad Prince, of the game abruptly.

This news came from Bloomberg, which states that the company is now looking for new contracts and development opportunities while work on the Knights of the Old Republic Remake is on hold.

This reportedly came after a vertical slice and gameplay demo was shown to Sony and Lucasfilm on June 30, with the developers feeling “excited about it” and the game. But the heads of the studio heads reportedly said that the slice “wasn’t where they wanted it to be and that the project would be passed”.

The project’s current course reportedly wasn’t sustainable with a large amount of money put into the vertical slice. So now, a more realistic release date for the game is reportedly 2025, which is a huge delay.

Saber Interactive has taken over the development of the game it seems, but it still would be surprising to see the game before 2025, as the studio will likely need to make some adjustments as they join the project mid-way through its development.

Knights of the Old Republic Remake Platforms

The KOTOR Remake platforms will initially include PC and PS5. There hasn’t been an announcement of a Knights of the Old Republic Remake Xbox release yet, but if it does come to Xbox Series X|S, the game will likely be announced after its initial release on other platforms.
