Is there an espn app for smart tv

ESPN+ is perfect for people who want to match NBA, MLB, or NHL games and other sports. The problem is that ESPN+ isn’t still available on LG Content Store. At least, I can’t find it there. I have tried to do that on 2 TVs and the LG Content Store website.

That means you can’t just install the ESPN+ app and watch sports. I know that sounds strange, considering that ESPN+ is the most popular sports streaming service and LG is a well-known and popular brand. But we are where we are, and if you have LG Smart TV, you need to find another way to watch ESPN+.

The good news is that you have many methods to get ESPN+ on your LG TV; here’s what your options are.

How to get ESPN Plus on LG TV

You can’t download ESPN+ as an app on your LG Smart TV. You must use the additional device to get ESPN Plus on LG TV. That can be any streaming device that supports ESPN+, as well as PlayStation or Xbox. Moreover, you can also use a laptop or PC connected to your TV to cast ESPN+ via HDMI or even use Apple AirPlay on your iPhone or screen sharing on your Android to cast ESPN+ to your LG TV.

As you see, there are numerous methods you can use to watch ESPN Plus on your LG TV, but before I explain each of them, I want to dispel some myths I’ve met in other articles.

Can you install the ESPN+ app on LG TV?

No, you can’t. Because there’s no ESPN+ app available in the LG Content Store, you can’t find the ESPN app on LG Smart TV. ESPN Plus official website also has no LG Smart TVs (or WebOS) listed among available devices. That means you can’t download the ESPN+ app, sign in and watch it.

I can assume that the ESPN+ app will arrive on webOS soon, but I haven’t found any information about this on the web. And before it would become available on LG Smart TVs directly – the only way was to use third-party devices to access the ESPN+ streaming service.

Can you use a web browser to watch ESPN+ on LG TV?

In some articles about ESPN+ on LG TV, I have found a myth that you can use a built-in webOS browser to watch ESPN+. At first glance, that seems logical. For example, you need to use a web browser to watch ESPN Plus on a PC or laptop.

However, the ESPN+ website clearly states that browsers on Smart TVs, streaming devices, and gaming consoles aren’t supported, nor are browsers on mobile devices. You can check this information here.

So, despite a web browser seeming like an obvious solution – it isn’t. The browser isn’t supporting ESPN+ on your LG Smart TV so that the streaming wouldn’t play.

However, besides the ESPN+ app or web browser, there are other ways to watch ESPN+ on LG Smart TV. They all involve third-party devices you need to use to get ESPN on your LG TV. The good news is there’s a wide range of methods to choose from.

What devices you can use to watch ESPN+ on LG TV?

As I said, there are a lot of devices you can use to get ESPN on LG TV. Some of them, like Roku, are streaming devices you can use with your TV, while other methods involve your everyday devices, like iPhone or PlayStation.

Here’s the full list of devices you can use to get ESPN on LG TV:

  • Windows PC or laptop
  • Mac or MacBook
  • Android devices
  • iPhone and iPad
  • Amazon Fire Tablet
  • Amazon Fire Stick
  • Roku
  • Apple TV
  • Chromecast
  • PlayStation
  • Xbox
  • Xfinity
  • Portal TV

Therefore, you can use any of these devices to watch ESPN+ on LG TV. And I understand that connecting a laptop via HDMI or screen mirroring from your iPhone isn’t the best solution, especially if you’re watching ESPN+ frequently enough.

I recommend you consider how often you’re watching ESPN+ and other streaming services that are unavailable on LG Smart TV and make a decision:

  1. If you’re watching ESPN+ not often and LG Smart TV is enough for other tasks, then it’s better to use your PC, laptop, or phone to cast ESPN+ (or if you have a gaming console, you can use it).
  2. If you’re watching ESPN+ regularly, buying a cheap streaming device (like Roku or Amazon Fire Stick) and watching ESPN+ via its native app would be better.

However, no matter what decision you make, first, you must sign up for ESPN+. Here’s how.

How to sign up for ESPN+

ESPN+ costs $9.99 a month or $99.99 per year. And you also have an option to get it in a bundle with other streaming services. For example, the bundle with Disney Plus and Hulu (with ads) will cost $13.99 a month and $19.99 for the same, but with Hulu no ads.

If you’re using Disney Plus or Hulu, that’s a reasonable price to add ESPN+ to your list of subscriptions.

Another option is more about UFC fans. You can buy a PPV package for $125, including a ticket to the upcoming UFC PPV event + ESPN Plus subscription.

And now it’s time to sign up for the service, you need to use your web browser, mobile device or streaming device.

  • Go to the ESPN website (espn.com) and click on Subscribe now on the left column.

How to watch ESPN+ on LG TV

And now, let’s take a look at how you can watch ESPN Plus on your LG Smart TV. I wouldn’t explain a method for each device, as that would be too long to read. So I would group them up into groups.

How to get ESPN+ on LG Smart TV with a streaming device

A streaming device is the most obvious way to watch ESPN+ on LG TV. There is plenty of them on the market: Amazon Fire Stick, Roku, Chromecast, Apple TV, Portal TV, and Xfinity.

In this case, everything is quite straightforward; you just need to buy a streaming device, connect it to your TV and find ESPN+ in the app store on this device. Here are the general steps:

  • Buy the streaming device that you prefer. I recommend Amazon Fire Stick Lite, as that’s one of the cheapest on the market with a price of $30.
  • Connect it to your LG Smart TV.
  • Launch your streaming device.
  • Download the ESPN+ app and log in to your ESPN account.
  • Watch ESPN+ with your streaming device.

The only disadvantage of this method is that you need to pay additional money to buy a streaming device. But that’s the best option to enjoy ESPN+ without problems and additional every-time efforts. However, let’s take a look at other methods that will let you save money.

How to AirPlay ESPN+ to LG TV with your iPhone or iPad

iPhone and iPad support the ESPN+ app so that you can screen mirror this app to your LG TV. And you can cast content with the AirPlay feature. However, only LG TVs with webOS 4.0 and higher support AirPlay, so check this before proceeding.

If everything is okay, here’s how to use AirPlay to cast ESPN+ to your LG Smart TV:

  • Turn on your LG Smart TV and ensure it’s connected to the same Wi-Fi network as your iPhone or iPad.
  • Open (or download first) the ESPN+ app on your iPhone or iPad.

  • Open the content you want to watch.
  • Tap the AirPlay icon on the top of the screen.
  • In the menu, choose your LG TV from the list.

Now, your iPhone will cast ESPN+ to your TV via AirPlay. Almost the same thing you can do with an Android device as well.

How to screen mirror ESPN+ to your LG Smart TV with an Android device

Screen mirroring on Android devices is almost identical to AirPlay on iPhones or iPad. And it also requires webOS 4.0+ to work. Here’s what to do:

  • Make sure your LG TV is connected to the same Wi-Fi network as your Android.
  • Open the ESPN+ app on your smartphone and log in.
  • Select the content to watch.
  • Tap on the screen mirroring icon on the right-top corner of the screen.
  • Choose your LG Smart TV from the list.

Now, your Android device is casting the content on your LG TV. However, if you don’t want to use your smartphone or your LG Smart TV has a webOS version lower than 4.0 – there’s a way to use your PC or laptop to watch ESPN+.

How to use your PC or laptop to watch ESPN+ content on LG TV

Of course, that’s not the method I can call the best one. However, it’s still convenient. In this case, you can use your LG TV as a big screen for your laptop and watch ESPN+ via web browser on your PC or laptop.

However, you need an HDMI cable and HDMI port on your PC or laptop to connect it. If your laptop doesn’t have one, you may use an adapter. Here’s the entire process:

  • Connect your laptop or PC to LG TV with HDMI.
  • Change your LG TV input to HDMI 1 (or, if it isn’t working – to HDMI 2). Here’s the guide on how to change the input source on LG TVs.
  • Now, your laptop screen is casting to your TV.
  • If you want your TV to be on the second screen (instead of casting the same), you can change this in the display settings.

How to cast ESPN+ to LG Smart TV via Google Chrome on your PC or laptop

And the last way to cast ESPN+ to your LG TV is by using Google Chrome. That’s a great way if you don’t want to use your smartphone and don’t have an HDMI cable. However, as with AirPlay and Screen Mirroring, the webOS should be version 4.0 or higher. Here’s how to cast content via Google Chrome:

  • Open the ESPN+ website in Google Chrome.
  • Connect your PC or laptop to the same Wi-Fi network as your LG TV.
  • Open the content you want to watch and click on thethree dots in the top-right corner of Google Chrome.
  • In the drop-down menu, choose the Cast… option from the list.

Now, your content from Google Chrome will be cast to your LG Smart TV.

LG TV has an AirPlay feature built-in by default. You can use it to share your iPhone or iPad screen directly with LG TV. In this case, you only have to download ESPN+ to your mobile device and launch AirPlay. You can find out how to connect your iPhone to LG TV here.

Also, if you have an android smartphone, you can use Miracast technology. It works similarly and allows you to shade your screen on your LG TV. You can learn more about it here.

Using these simple tricks, you can access your favorite ESPN+ matches on LG TV anytime.
