Pop-up blockers, however, serve an extremely useful purpose: preventing annoying ads from interrupting you while visiting a page. If you’re not using an ad and pop-up blocker like AdBlock, we hope you’re using your browser’s settings to prevent pop-ups from bothering you. In fact most browsers enable basic pop-up blocking by default. But you may occasionally need to disable your pop-up blocker in order to print something, open a login screen, or get access to information that pops up in a new window.

If you’re only using AdBlock, temporarily disabling it to allow pop-ups is as easy as a couple of clicks. But if you need to disable the pop-up blocker in your browser, it’s a little more complicated. Here’s how to disable your pop-up blocker in any browser:

1. Open your Chrome browser
2. In the upper right-hand corner, click the three vertical dots, then select Settings
3. At the bottom of the menu, click Advanced
4. Scroll down to “Privacy and security,” and select Site Settings
5. Select Pop-ups and redirects
6. At the top of the menu, toggle the setting to Allowed to disable the pop-up blocker

1. Open your Firefox browser
2. Click the Menu button, then select Options
3. Select Privacy & Security
4. Under Permissions, uncheck Block pop-up windows to disable the pop-up blocker

1. Open your Microsoft Edge browser
2. Go to Settings, then select more > Settings > Privacy & security
3. Under Security, switch Block pop-ups to off to disable the pop-up blocker

Mac:

1. Select Safari > Preferences, then select Websites
2. Select Pop-up Windows
3. Use the When visiting other websites drop-down menu and select Allow to disable the pop-up blocker

Safari for iOS:

1. On your iOS device, open the Settings menu
2. Select Safari
3. Slide Block Pop-ups to off (white) to disable pop-up blocking

Chrome for iOS:

1. On your iOS device, open the Chrome app
2. Tap More > Settings
3. Tap Content Settings, then tap Block Pop-ups
4. Turn Block Pop-ups off to allow pop-ups

Chrome:

1. On your Android device, open the Chrome app
2. Tap More > Settings
3. Tap Site settings, then Pop-ups and redirects
4. Turn Pop-ups and redirects on to allow pop-ups

Samsung Internet:

1. On your Android device, open the Samsung Internet app
2. Tap the Menu icon (three vertical lines)
3. Select Settings
4. Under Advanced, tap Sites and downloads
5. Slide Block Pop-ups to off (white) to disable pop-up blocking

Firefox:

There is currently no way to access the pop-up blocker settings in Firefox for Android. We recommend following these steps from Mozilla to adjust your pop-up blocker settings.

Open Google Chrome if it is not already open.

Click the Chrome menu    on the browser toolbar.

Select Settings.

Click Show advanced settings. 

In the Privacy section, click the Content settings button (highlighted in red).

Select Allow all sites to show pop-ups.

Click Done.

The pop-up blocker built into Safari is enabled by default. You can only toggle between having all pop-ups blocked or allowing pop-ups by toggling the 'Block Pop-Up Windows' option from the Safari menu.

How to Block Pop-Ups in Chrome with Native Tools

If pop-up ads bother you when you’re working at your computer, be it a PC or a Mac, Chrome allows you to turn them off.

To disable pop-ups in Chrome from your desktop computer, follow these steps:

1. In Chrome, navigate to the upper right corner, and click on the three dots to open Chrome’s menu (it’s called the kebab menu. We know, so funny!). Click on Settings in the drop-down menu.
2. From the panel on the left, select Privacy and security

3. Scroll down to find Site settings

4. Select Pop-ups and redirects

5. In the Default behavior, choose Don’t allow sites to send pop-ups or use redirects

How to allow or block pop-ups in Chrome from specific websites

Now, if you think you’re okay seeing pop-ups from your favorite websites, you can allow them too. You can also stop specific websites from sending your pop-up notifications or block pop-ups on all websites with some exceptions.  

To allow or block pop-ups from specific websites:

1. In Chrome, navigate to the upper right corner and click on the three dots to open Chrome’s menu
2. Click on Settings
3. From the panel on the left, select Privacy and security

4. Scroll down to find Site settings

5. Select Pop-ups and redirects

6. While in Pop-ups and redirects, scroll down to Customised behaviors

7. Press Add and type in a particular website address to add it to the list of sites that are Not allowed to send pop-ups or use redirects. Only those certain websites will free you of the pop-up ads, while the rest will be allowed to show you pop-up ads and use redirects.  

8. Add a website to the list called Allowed to send pop-ups and use redirects if you want to let this particular one show you pop-ups after all. Don't forget to block the rest in the Default behavior.

Alternatively, if you’re on a web page and want to see a pop-up Chrome has blocked:

1. In the address bar on the left, click the Pop-up blocked icon  
2. Click the link for the pop-up
3. Select Always allow pop-ups and redirects from [site] and click Done

How to Stop Pop-Ups in Chrome on your mobile device

Since we’re disabling pop-ups in the browser, it doesn’t matter if you’re using an iOS or Android mobile device. The instructions are the same for all.

1. Open the Chrome app and, in the upper right corner, tap on the icon with your picture

Why do pop-ups keep appearing on Chrome?
