What to expect after Juvéderm injections?

One of the advantages of dermal filler treatment is that most patients develop only mild side effects. The inclusion of lidocaine in Juvéderm fillers makes the treatment itself very comfortable. Are There Any Necessary Preparations Or Post-Treatment Care?

Medications including aspirin and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs such as Motrin should be avoided starting 5 days prior to dermal filler injections. Supplements including vitamin E, fish oil, Ginko Biloba, St Johns Wart, Ginseng, and Garlic should be avoided starting 7-10 days prior to the procedure Avoidance should continue for two weeks after injections. Additionally, patients should avoid excessive heat from showers, saunas, and hot tubs, as well as strenuous exercise and direct sun exposure after receiving injectable treatment. Your provider will inform you about when these activities may resume.

How Long After Receiving Juvéderm Injections Will I Be Able To See Results?

• Four to six months for Juvéderm Ultra
• Six to nine months for Ultra Plus
• Twelve months for Volbella lip enhancement
• Eighteen months for Vollure
• Twenty-four months for Voluma

What Are The Possible Side Effects Of Juvéderm Injections?

The side effects of Juvéderm treatments are typically mild and transient. Many people return to work and other normal activities right after their appointment. The most common side effects to be aware of include:

• Swelling and bruising. If these side effects occur, they are usually very mild and can be managed with cold compresses or ice packs.
• Redness and tiny welts. These side effects may occur right at injection sites where the small needle has penetrated the skin. They are normal reactions that should fade quickly.
• Itching. Some patients notice mild itching in the treatment area. This could be caused by minor irritation from the injections themselves. Patients can apply ice to soothe itching if necessary but should avoid scratching or rubbing the area.
• Lumps or bumps. If the treatment area has a bump or lump, contact your provider for guidance about what to do. The area may smooth slightly with a gentle massage. However, this should be done carefully so as not to disperse the filler to surrounding tissue. In many cases, bumps resolve on their own in a week or two. If they do not, an enzyme can be injected to dissolve excess hyaluronic acid.
