How many episodes in the falcon and the winter soldier

Marvel's The Falcon and the Winter Soldier is five action-packed episodes in on Disney Plus, and it's about to cross the finish line. The buddy-adventure series took over WandaVision's Friday night spot, pairing Marvel heroes Falcon (Anthony Mackie) and Winter Soldier (Sebastian Stan) on a globe-trotting mission.

Unlike WandaVision, the Falcon and the Winter Soldier didn't premiere with two episodes on the same day. It's been releasing an episode a week, with the sixth and final arriving Friday. While this is fewer episodes than the Wanda and Vision sitcom, the expected episode runtime gives you a little extra, varying from 40 to 50 minutes.

The Falcon and the Winter Soldier marks the second series in the ever-evolving Phase 4 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Picking up after the events of Avengers: Endgame, the show centers on Sam Wilson, aka The Falcon, taking over the Captain America shield, and Bucky Barnes, aka The Winter Soldier, grappling with 21st century life without his star-spangled pal Steve Rogers. On top of that, the pair team up on a globe-trotting mission to take down an anarchist group called the Flag-Smashers.

Daniel Brühl returns as Baron Zemo, wearing his traditional purple mask from the comics. Emily VanCamp is back as Sharon Carter, aka Peggy's niece and former agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. Wyatt Russell plays John F. Walker/US Agent, the US government's militaristic successor to Captain America. Plus, Don Cheadle appears as War Machine.

Will there be a second season? Loki, the upcoming series starring, yep, Loki, already has a second season in development. No word on whether The Falcon and the Winter Soldier is going the same way yet.

The number of Falcon and the Winter Soldier episodes will be different compared to other Marvel TV shows, which is why its season finale will release before fans may be ready for it. Coming out months after it was originally expected to drop, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier reunites Sam Wilson aka Falcon with Bucky Barnes aka Winter Soldier after their fight against Thanos and his Black Order in Avengers: Endgame, and it also sees the return of other MCU characters.

Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier didn't wrap its production in time to release last summer, and so, WandaVision beat it to the punch and became the first Marvel Studios TV series, as well as the first project in Phase 4 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, to hit screens. In a way, it was appropriate given when WandaVision takes place in the timeline, not to mention it tied directly into the events of both Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame. And now, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier will continue from that but show viewers a bit more than just one small town in New Jersey.

The Falcon and the Winter Soldier has six episodes, the first of which is scheduled to premiere on Friday, March 19, 2021. Although it has three fewer episodes compared to WandaVision, the length of the series is expected to be the same at roughly six hours. That means more content in each episode, but a shorter amount of time to be with Falcon and Winter Soldier. Just like the season premiere, every episode of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier will release on Fridays.

As long as Disney+ maintains its schedule without any sudden delays, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier season finale will release on Friday, April 23, two weeks before the next project in Phase 4 comes out - Black Widow. So instead of debuting after the prequel film, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier will help set the stage for it.

Unfortunately, unlike the case between WandaVision and The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, the next Marvel TV series, Loki, won't launch until almost two months after The Falcon and the Winter Soldier season finale. Loki is currently scheduled to release on June 11; the reason for the long delay between the second and third Marvel show is because the studio wants to leave room for Black Widow to shine. After all, every one of these projects is part of the MCU, regardless of where they release, so it makes sense to maintain a timeline that factors in everything.

Why is Falcon and Winter Soldier only 6 episodes?

“Six hours is what we landed on as the best way to tell our story,” he added. “Six hours, whether it's six episodes, or nine shorter episodes like WandaVision. The shows aren't inexpensive, so the per-episode cost is very high and to get that bar I was talking about,” added the Marvel boss.
