Fruit Wines Discovery | 12-12:45 p.m. Saturday Only

Presented by: Mark Rozum of Blackdog Winery

PA Limited Wineries can make Wine from any agricultural product that is not a grain. This leaves the door open to many possibilities beyond grapes. As many home farmers and winemakers know, there are a multitude of fruits that make fantastic wines all on their own, typically with the help of a little sugar. Most other fruits do not contain the sugar content as a fully ripened grape, this requires sugar prior to fermentation to raise the level of potential alcohol or be satisfied with a lower final alcohol content. Mark Rozum from Blackdog Winery will go over several non-grape fruit-based wines and discuss how to make them and what fruits create fantastic wines.

Finer Points of Dry Wines | 2-2:45 p.m.

Presented by: John Gailey Jr. of Woody Lodge Winery (dry whites) and Jay Bell of Bella Terra Vineyards (dry reds)

John and Jay will provide samples and educate attendees on PA Grown dry wines. While PA does not boast the economic scale that other states do (like California), with its diverse climate regions Pennsylvania can, and does produce Nationally Awarded dry wines. Grapes such as; Merlot, Cabernet Franc (parent of Cabernet Sauvignon), Pinot Grigio, Chardonnay and many others do grow well in the state and are a premium product made by PA wineries. In this seminar you will have the opportunity to learn and sample some of these dry favorites.

Mead, What is it? How is it made? | 12 p.m. | Sunday Only

Scott Neeley of KingView Mead, Wine and Cider

Scott Neeley, Owner of KingView Mead will take you on a journey sampling the oldest alcohol humankind has ever known, Mead. Mead, aka Honey Wine, has a long history that predates beer, wine and liquor and is where the word "honeymoon" comes from. In this seminar, you will taste and learn about this magical alcohol made from honey. Different styles, dry vs. sweet, and how it is made will be the main topics of one of the fastest growing alcohol segments the US.
