The TFSI and TDI engines

Seven engines, one principle: less fuel consumption and more power. Compared to the predecessor model, fuel consumption has been reduced by up to 21 percent while power was increased by up to 25 percent.

The Audi A4 Saloon is available in a total of seven different engine variants: three TFSI and four TDI engines. All have one declared aim: To improve performance while lowering fuel consumption.

The TFSI engines

The first entry is the 1.4 TFSI. This compact four-cylinder engine with a power of 110 kW (150 HP) and a torque of 250 Nm accelerates the A4 Saloon from 0 to 100 km/h in 8.5 seconds and reaches a top speed of up to 210 km/h. Thanks to the aluminium crankcase the engine’s weight is just over 100 kilograms.

The 2.0 TFSI is available in two versions: The top version offers a power of 185 kW (252 HP) and a torque of 370 Nm. When equipped with it, the Audi A4 Saloon reaches 100 km/h in 5.8 seconds and its electronically limited top speed is 250 km/h. The second option – a gasoline ultra-engine – yields 140 kW (190 HP). Its torque is 320 Nm. With this engine, the Audi A4 Saloon races from 0 to 100 km/h in just 7.3 seconds and has a top speed of 240 km/h.

The TDI engines

The TDI engines start with the 2.0 TDI, which is available in two performance versions: 110 kW (150 HP) with a torque of 320 Nm and 140 kW (190 HP) with a torque of 400 Nm.

The driving performance is impressive even with 110 kW. The Audi A4 Saloon accelerates from standstill to the 100 km/h benchmark in 8.7 seconds and can reach speeds up to 219 km/h.

With the 140 kW version, the A4 Saloon races from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.7 seconds and has a top speed of 237 km/h.

Both TDI engines will also be available as ultra engine variants.

The six-cylinder 3.0 TDI will also be available in two versions: 160 kW (218 HP) and 200 kW (272 HP). The latter takes mere 5.3 seconds to accelerate the A4 Saloon from 0 to 100 km/h and reaches a top speed of up to 250 km/h.

Power transmission

The engine options are combined with various transmission solutions: Regardless if it’s a manual gearbox, S tronic or tiptronic, front or quattro drive – a tailored solution is provided for each engine type.

Seven-speed S tronic

The new seven-speed S tronic transmission impresses with its high degree of efficiency. The friction was reduced even more, the weight was lowered, and the oil supply was designed to be even more efficient – thus enabling very low values at engine idling speed. The two multi-plate clutches are arranged axially one behind the other, which reduces the drag torque and improves efficiency. The seven‑speed S tronic is available for all engines except for the top TDI model. It will enter series production for the 3.0 TDI with 160 kW.

tiptronic

The eight-speed tiptronic is reserved for the 3.0 TDI with a power of 200 kW (272 HP). The smooth, fast and spontaneously switching automatic transmission was also completely redesigned. A new speed-adaptive damper ensures that the powerful V6 Diesel engine can run smoothly even at only 850 1/min. The design of the gear sets and shift elements ensures low drag torques and therefore a high degree of efficiency.

The quattro® all-wheel drive

The quattro drive stands for dynamic handling, traction and driving safety. The self-locking centre differential is used to provide an optimal distribution of the drive torques between the front and rear axles depending on the driving status, road characteristics and driver type. Driving enjoyment and safety are combined on an entirely new level.

The driving dynamics

The Audi A4 Saloon is the perfect companion – both on winding road sections and on long-distance routes. Audi drive select ensures that the driving dynamics can be adjusted individually to each situation. It influences the characteristic curves of the servo-assistance and accelerator pedal as well as the optional controlled suspension systems. In this way, you are supremely safe on the road, both on fast motorway trips and on meandering country roads.
