What Is CPR and Why Should I Learn It?

It's The Difference Between Life and Death.

With a half-million cardiac arrests each year, CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation) can help save a life if a person's breathing or heart stops. It's not just for healthcare workers and emergency responders. In fact, CPR can double or triple the chance of survival when bystanders take action. The American Red Cross helps train you safely, effectively and confidently, so you're prepared for the minutes that matter the most.

Is AED certification the same as first aid?

No. AED is not the same as first aid. AED certification teaches students how to use an automated external defibrillator.

What is AED training in first aid?

The AHA's Heartsaver First Aid CPR AED course trains participants to provide first aid, CPR, and use an automated external defibrillator (AED) in a safe, timely, and effective manner. Reflects science and education from the American Heart Association Guidelines Update for CPR and Emergency Cardiovascular Care (ECC).

What is the difference between BLS and CPR AED?

Both CPR and BLS training typically require keeping the victim's airway open, promoting blood circulation without using mechanical aid, among other crucial rescue approaches. The main difference between BLS and CPR is that BLS also includes lifesaving techniques that are necessary for a medical or hospital setting.

What is a passing score for AHA CPR?

The American Heart Association's BLS for Healthcare Provider written test is 25 questions, and covers the material found in the workbook as class video. The passing score is 84%, which means a student can incorrectly answer four questions without having to retake the exam.
