The 2015 Chevy Equinox camshaft position sensor is located on the right side of the engine compartment at the rear of the valve cover, near the intake manifold. The purpose of a camshaft position sensor is to determine the position of the camshaft as it relates to the crankshaft. This data is then sent to the powertrain control module (PCM) for use with fuel injector and/or ignition system control. As a camshaft position sensor starts having problems and weakens, the transmitted signal to the cars computer weakens as well. This means the eventually the signal is so weak that it will not allow the car to start since there will be no spark from the ignition.

On top of the block at the passenger side in the same area as the coils. 10MM bolt holds in place. BE CAREFUL.... When installing the new one, use the old bolts as the new are Chinese made and break with around 3 pounds force. Very long and frustrating adventure re-tapping/heli coil adventure. Intake is near. Exhaust back. Remove the oil fill lid, loosen the 5/16 air duct hose clamps, (2), Remove the plastic covers by lifting with some "BACK AND FORTH/FORWARD BACK" type actions. They are held with the slip shaft kind of concept, nothing to loosen as for bolts. While working on it be sure to put something into the holes that anything was removed from. Air intake. Sensor. Keep the engine insides clean. Could be a dangerous scenario is not.
