Jan 12, 2015 Please help: I am going to have my steering wheel recovered by Dallas Custom Steering Wheel. I've looked through the threads here and at the other site. I am finding bits and pieces here and there. I just dont want to damage anything. I know a few people on here have done it. Would someone be willing to write up a step by step process for me?
Looking forward to getting this done. It's a 2010, if that matters. Thanks! Mike Joined

I just did this same thing a couple months ago. It takes maybe 5 min to get the steering wheel off. I removed the bolts on the rear of the steering wheel by bringing it up to the 12 o'clock position to get each bolt out then the center cover will come off. Remove the two wire clips for the air bag and then just take the steering wheel bolt off then I had to
use a steering wheel puller that comes with the bolts to pull the wheel off. You can rent them from auto zone. I just bought one from auto zone for $13. The new wheel great!!! I love it!! PITTZ· Contributing MemberJoined Nov 8, 2010 · 4,593 Posts Joined Jul 9, 2011 · 267 Posts

The new wheel great!!! I love it!! Basically this, except the 08-10s don't have bolts holding in the air bag. They have metal clips that you'll have to use a flat head screw driver to get them off. There are 3 slots in the back of the steering wheel to access each one and just pry on each
on until it comes free. Just make sure when you get one free it doesn't pop back into place while you're trying to get the others. I think WKJeeps.com had a diagram of the removal process. Joined Jul 26, 2009 · 4,366 Posts

How hard did you pull on the airbag cover after loosening the three clips? I am afraid to pull too hard....or does it take considerable force? Joined Mar 1, 2009 · 1,096 Posts

You have to pop one clip at a time and give it a good amount of force at each clip. One at a time. Just make sure as you pull each clip the others don't pop back
in.

Joined Jul 26, 2009 · 4,366 Posts Can you change steering wheel on Jeep Grand Cherokee?Yes there are a few wheels that will swap on there. You have to use the airbag the goes with that steering wheel and the cruise control buttons may need to be modified to work with your jeep.
How do you unlock the steering wheel on a Jeep Grand Cherokee? To unlock your steering wheel, here's what you need to do: Start by pulling your steering wheel towards the same direction you previously did to lock it. For example, if you pulled the steering wheel to the left, then pull it to the left again and hold it to begin the unlocking process.
