The Chevy Silverado 1500 is a full-size work truck that comes in a variety of styles, trim packages and engine sizes to meet the requirements of most jobs. This version of the Silverado was introduced in 2006.

Types

The Silverado has several trims, including base work truck, LT, LS and LTZ, which have minor impacts on load capacity. Bed size has the greater impact, and you may get a regular cab, extended cab or crew cab, all of which affect bed size. The bed length is either 6 feet, 6 inches or 8 feet, 2 inches.

Power

A 4.3 liter V-6 is standard on the Chevy Silverado, and it has 195 horsepower and 260 foot-pounds of torque, or pulling power. Other engines available include a 4.8-liter V-8 (302 horsepower and 305 torque), a 5.3-liter V-8 (315 horsepower and 335 torque), and on selected trim packages a 6.2-liter V-8 with 403 horsepower and 417 torque.

Capacity

The base work truck with the V-6 and shorter bed has a maximum load weight of 1,937 lbs. and a towing capacity of 9,100 lbs. The longer bed version has a load limit of 1,806 lbs. and a towing capacity of 10,000 lbs. The eight-cylinder engines with the short bed have a payload of 1,937 lbs. and a towing capacity of 9,100 lbs. The longer bed has a payload of 1,806 lbs. and a towing capacity of 10,000 lbs. Those numbers decrease when four-wheel-drive is added.
