This video shows you how to add transmission fluid to your 2008 Chrysler Town and Country. Before adding transmission fluid, make sure that your engine was running when you checked the fluid level. If the transmission fluid level on your Town and Country is low, you need to add fluid through the dipstick tube. Chrysler has been developed sophisticated transmissions through years and it is critical that you add the exact type of transmission fluid stipulated by your owner's manual (typically in the back of the manual in a section titled Fluid Capacities.) When adding transmission fluid to your Town and Country, be sure to add it slowly as the transmission fluid capacity is reached quickly and it is difficult to remove excess fluid if you overfill.

If you are having problems with the transmission in your Town and Country, such as clunky shifting or hesitation, check the fluid level first - it is amazing how many drivers pay thousands of dollars for transmission work when a half quart of transmission fluid would have fixed the problem.

I have a 2008 Town and Country. Having some Transmission issues. I would like to do a fluid and filter change.

However it is a SEALED transmission. No dipstick. So is this something a DIY can do. Not usre how to refill.

Please advise andy help would be appreciated.

It's still changeable. You still have a dipstick tube so to speak. But chrysler decided to put a black cap on it instead. You can still check your fluid level by buying a dipstick at the parts store. Correct fluid level is based on fluid temperature relative to how high/low it is on the dipstick.

To change it you have 2 choices. First, the easier way is to siphon out what you can via the dipstick tube and refill with the same amount of fluid you removed. Second is to drop the trans pan and changing the filter, then putting the pan back on using RTV or a gasket (plenty of discussion on this forum on weather RTV or gasket is better), then refilling with the same amount of fluid you removed.

If you do change the fluid remember to use ATF+4 only don't use anything else regardless of what the bottle claims or you will possibly do more harm than good. ATF+4 is more expensive but it's really good stuff. That's partly why Chrysler says the fluid doesn't need changing.

Chrysler specifies to change the fluid and filter under normal operating conditions as specified in the owner's manuals:

2008-2010:
Change the automatic transmission fluid & filter at 120,000 miles or 120 months.

2011-2012:
Change the automatic transmission fluid & filter at 120,000 miles or 90 months.

2013-2016:
Change the automatic transmission fluid & filter at 120,000 miles or 12 years (144 months).

Interesting that the miles requirement has stayed the same, but the time interval has varied.

For "police, taxi, fleet or frequent trailer towing" the change interval is about half the above.

The method that a dealership SHOULD use to change the oil and filter in the transmission is:

Remove the pan and allow the transmission to drain.
Remove the RTV gasket material from the transmission housing and pan mating areas. Clean the interior of the transmission pan.
Remove the old filter and install new filter.
Apply RTV to the pan and install.
Add fluid (through "dealer only" dipstick tube).
Verify fluid level paying attention to temperature of fluid.

Make sure you get the right torque specs for the oil pan and application method for the RTV, otherwise it will just leak.

Just to add: Only use Mopar ATF+4 Synthetic from Dealer: It is cheaper and works best for Grand Caravans 6 speed. I used other brand and it was shifting hard so I drained using the transmission cooling lines from rad (use the one closest to front, it is the return line attached to top of trany) I used an empty 4 L jug to empty it but note that it it will only remove 4L of oil this way. Once you have it set up and secured turn on vehicle and watch closely while it is filled it only takes about 15-20 secs to fill jug and turn off vehicle. re-tighten and fill from dipstick plug same amount. The Mopar oil made a huge difference in function and shifting up and down much smoother.

P.S. You can use your engine oil dipstick: at cold it should read max 4 millimeters up dipstick and at hot it should read at the "AF" mark of the SAFE reading mark on engine oil dip stick.
