1994 ford ranger 4.0 camshaft position sensor location

  • #1

Hello. I was hoping someone could help me. I've got a 1994 Mazda B4000. It had a terrible lower intake manifold gasket leak and I decided to perform the fix. When I went to dis-connect the "camshaft position sensor/camshaft synchronizer" connector, I broke the connection on the sensor and ripped the three wires out.

There are several debates as to if this motors has one and indeed it does, but Ford has dis-continued that part

I've found several P/N's for either new or re-manufactured parts, but the listings/descriptions don't say it'll fit my truck. Here are the P/N's I've found -

ZZM32035Y
BOSCH PC137
F3TZ12K073A
DORMAN 689-110
Bosch 0232101012

Could somebody help me out and let me know if any of these will fit my truck?

Thanks in advance!

Don't know if ya got it fixed or not but the best thing to do is look at connector. Is it 3 post or 4. I just went to bone yard and pulled one. As far as 'If its needed". I look at it like this. If wiring harness has a plug for it Ya need it for computer.

Not all of them had it. None before about 93.5, and after that only California Emissions.

I own a 1993 ranger and put an engine from a 95 in that had a plug for the cam synchronizer. I never plugged it in and my truck runs fine.

What's your code?

Also, have you checked the wiring for issues?

Did you remove the whole cam sync(gear and all) If so you need to use a tool to align it properly with engine at TDC.

Yeah, check the EGR flow by using a hand vac pump to open up the EGR valve at idle, see if it starts running rough or dies.

I have a Dorman 689110 in my truck. Problem free for about six years now.

What are the signs of a failing cam sensor?

A glowing check engine light, stalling, poor acceleration and bad fuel mileage are all possible signs your camshaft position sensor may be failing. Gone are the days of carburetors and distributors, replaced by a variety of sensors that help a car's computer get the maximum performance out of the engine.

Where is my camshaft position sensor located?

The Camshaft Position sensor is typically located in the cylinder head of the engine and has a cylindrical portion that inserts into the head. The Crankshaft Position sensor is normally located in the timing cover or on the side of the block with a cylindrical portion that inserts into the block.
