Where is the routing number located on a check of the Firstlight Federal Credit Union bank?

The routing number always appears on the very bottom of a check. It can either appear before or after the checking account number. The Centennial Bank places the routing number in the left-most corner, before the account number.

The routing number is the one that is both preceded by and followed by an odd symbol that looks a little bit like a frowning face. This symbol brackets the routing number, setting it off from other numbers on the same line.

The Purpose of the Routing Number

Routing Number? Please Explain This To Me Like I'm Five.

It is a number issued by the American Bankers Association that identifies the individual bank in question. It has a few different names, such as Routing Transit Number and American Bankers Association number. In order to do business in the US, all US banks must have a routing number.

Why does a bank need a routing number?

First, they need it because the law requires it. Second, they need it for practical logistical reasons. It is used to route money transfers, such as check payments or direct deposits. Without it, they are dead in the water and cannot move funds.

Where can I find this on my checks?

The routing number can be found at the bottom of the check. It may precede or follow the checking account number. This same line will also contain the check number for the check in question. These three pieces of information are needed to give each check full and unique identification for purposes of moving money between accounts.

I'm above furious with this bank. I wanted to pay off my car and I transferred the amount that was left to pay my car off via wire transfer with Chase bank. Then i looked at my account online to see if it was paid off. They never automatically transferred it to my car loan. Also they wanted more money. So i had to make another wire transfer just to be done with my car and them. I never ever will i bank with this bank again. They're a disgrace.

I had the worst experience in my life with this bank. I live in Germany and I have to manage my mothers account from here, having a Power of attorney. They blocked urgent transfers and wouldn´t tell me the reason why. I´ve spent days to talk to the service, they are just useless. Now they promised me to send an E-Mail yesterday...nothing happened. Their incompetence is going to cost me a lot of money!!! I can NOT recommend this bank at all.

I have been with First Light since I was on active duty in the Army. That's all the way back to the early 1980's. There is no such thing as a perfect banking institution, not in this life. You have to take the good with the bad. Personally with First Light the good far outweigh the bad. Just recently I had some erroneous information on my credit report. They worked tirelessly to get it all removed. Thank you both; agent and supervisor.

I have an account with Firstlight and plan on canceling ASAP! I worked here as a temp a few months back and was told specifically from a supervisor Nathan Duran, that I would be hired permanently after the 90 days were up from the temp agency. As soon as they found out about my pregnancy I was let go two weeks before the 90 days were up with no explanation. Coincidence? I think not. Discrimination towards pregnancy, really? Anyways, I worked there long enough to see how these "supervisors" treat the members, which is heartless and not helpful what-so-ever. All they want from you is to sign up for loans and credit cards. They do not care about your needs. Only if it benefits them in the end. I do warn you, if you are going to have a Firstlight account avoid going to Kenworthy! Worst Firstlight in El Paso! And long waits!

Where is the routing number on my check?

Disclaimer: the picture shown is for illustration purpose only and not the actual document of the Firstlight Federal Credit Union.

The image of the check shown as an example. The first set of numbers on the lower left corner of a check is the routing number. The second set of numbers following the character symbol immediately after your routing number is your account number. The check number is usually the last set of numbers on your check. Please, keep in mind the routing number on business checks (not personal) may be located in the middle of the lower part of the check.

What do the numbers mean?

312080941

First 4 digits 3120 - Federal Reserve Routing Symbol

Second 4 digits 8094 - ABA Institution Identifier

Last digit 1 - the Check Digit
