I didn’t think this would fit since I’m currently on a weightloss journey, BUT IT DOES! It’s very form fitting and is definitely a bit snug at the waist and it wouldn’t fit with a thicker shirt underneath, but it’s very warm so I doubt I’ll need anything but a thin/light shirt underneath. Also, I’m 5’6”, 175lbs, and wear a 38B cup. If you’re more blessed in the chest you may struggle getting the zipper over your girls.

A very well-made softshell, as you would expect from North Face. This would be great for hiking, backpacking, or running in temperatures as low as the 20s to 40s Fahrenheit, depending of course on how hot your body runs and what you have on underneath the jacket. The fleece lining is very soft.

Overall, because of the outside layer, the jacket is a bit stiff, but that's what makes it wind and water resistant. The water resistance is pretty good. I wouldn't wear it in the pouring rain and expect to stay bone dry, but for light rain or splashes, liquid rolls right off. I only found the stiffness to be a problem when I zipped it all the way up, and the collar was then bonking my chin.

People have complained that the sleeves are long. Yes, they are a tad long. But that's on purpose. They're cut asymmetrically so that the sleeve is supposed to cover some or all of your hand, which makes sense when you consider that you'd be wearing this jacket in cold to very cold weather. I guess if you're wearing this jacket and need to work with your hands a lot, that could be annoying, but otherwise it's actually a nice feature.

I found sizing for this to be tricky. I'm 5'2", 125 lbs, with an athletic build (think running/rock climbing), 34A bra size. According to North Face's size chart, I should be a small. I could fit the small, but when I wore a long-sleeved merino wool base layer underneath, the arms and shoulders were quite tight. My range of motion was impeded a bit, e.g., I couldn't reach forward all the way/give myself a hug. I highly doubt I would be able to layer a fleece underneath; the size small probably wouldn't zip up if I tried. The waist and hips were nicely fitted but not body-hugging like the arms and shoulders. If you're in between sizes or just like a slightly roomier fit, I'd size up.

The good: I bought this to replace my old standard fleece North Face jacket, and it is definitely an upgrade. It keeps me warm and dry, and is the perfect jacket for a mild to moderate winter. It is mostly waterproof, but I haven't tested it in a steady rain for longer than 15-20 minutes. The zippers all have excellent construction, and the sewing and seams are strong and neat.

The not so good: This jacket restricts my upper body and shoulder motion A LOT. It's fine for hiking and just being out, but any kind of outdoor labor (like chopping wood) is virtually impossible. This is not the all-purpose jacket you're looking for.

Most of all, I am SUPER disappointed in how quickly the interior cuffs have worn. The sleeves are extra long and partially cover my hands, and the cuff is lined with a soft jersey/fleece type fabric. I have owned this jacket three months, worn it maybe 20 times, and these cuffs are A MESS. They pill, wear poorly, and get caught on my jewelery and fingernails all the time. I love the idea of a soft lining near the hands but this stuff really missed the mark.

We own several of the Apex Bionic softshell jackets by Northface and they are good quality. The oldest one (Bionic original version I guess) was a slightly softer exterior shell but has lasted quite some time and still looks like new. The bionic 2 version exterior is more crisp and rigid than some others like Columbia that feel more like a regular polyester/cotton blend. All three of the northface apex bionic jackets we have state made in Nicaragua, so the listing that says made in US isn't accurate.

I got this to replace my other one which was stolen :( but it was stolen bc this is one of the best jackets out there! It totally breaks the wind and keeps you warm. I even wear it out snow boarding sometimes! If you get a slightly bigger size it is really nice as you can layer it bc it isn’t the warmest jacket in the world if you live where it snows. Also, because it is so nice I can wear it to go to work with business casual on rather cold days with out anyone thinking I’m too casual. Love the inside pockets as well and the one on the breast! These babies last so it will remain a staple in my closet for a very long time, and if it gets stolen again I will buy another one without hesitation again.

I was hesitant to purchase this jacket, because jackets rarely have sleeves that cover my wrists, but after seeing some reviews where people claimed the sleeves were too long, I thought... Could it be? A jacket with sleeves that actually fit? I usually have to size up to get sleeves that don't look silly, sacrificing a flattering fit, but the small actually fits perfectly! I love all the pockets. It's a beautiful, well thought out jacket that is worth the money.

I didn’t like how stiff the collar stands up straight

This jacket has been amazing. The fleece lining keeps me warm without getting too hot for days with fluctuating weather that has ranged from 37-65 degrees. The shape is perfectly contoured to my waist. The length hit just right at my beltline. The materials are high quality. The outer sheath has been repelling water well in the rain and thunderstorms for short walks to the car from my office. I highly recommend it.

I bought an XL because I like coats a bit bigger so I can wear a sweater or sweatshirt with them. I probably could’ve sized down. It’s not as soft of a shell as my other NF jacket
