Rolex Day-Date Onyx Stepped Dial 36mm 18k Yellow Gold 18038
Offered here is a superb example of the rare Rolex Day-Date 18k Yellow Gold Black Onyx Stepped Dial reference 18038 manufactured circa 1978.
The Day-Date range has historically been a template for Rolex to display un-bound creativity. As a result, this piece with its Black Onyx Stepped dial, displays one of the most unusual dial configurations in the Day-Date range. Rolex went well beyond its usual bounds with experimenting with different dials and the Day-Date can also be found with dial options incorporating wood, lacquer, fossil, marble coral and many more.
This example has the correct Black Onyx Stepped dial with and yellow gold surrounds to the individual day and date apertures for its 526---- serial number range.
The overall condition of this 18k Day-Date is excellent. The case appears to have been very lightly polished in the past but retains strong equal lugs along with the brushed finish to the top edges remaining very well defined, the 18k gold fluted bezel has no dings or scratches and really compliments the overall appearance of this 36mm Day-Date. The Black Onyx stepped dial is in stunning condition along with the rectangular gold surround apertures for the day and date windows. There are no hour plots or markers just a beautiful black Onyx dial and gilt writing, the gold hands are all matching in colour. The Sapphire Glass is the Top Hat style inclusive of the Cyclops date window for this model, it is also free of any detrimental scratches or marks.
The watch comes on the correct Rolex 18k gold President bracelet reference 8385 and matching end links. The bracelet is showing only light wear and minimal stretch.
It
also comes with its Rolex box, service pouch & Rolex service papers dated 6/4/21.
