Perimeter of Different Shapes Worksheets
On this webpage you will find our range of worksheets to help your child learn to work out the perimeter of a range of shapes.
These sheets are graded from easiest to hardest, and each sheet comes complete with answers.
Using these sheets will help your child to:
- understand what perimeter is;
- know how to find the perimeter (and area) of a range of 2d shapes by counting up the side lengths;
- know how to find the perimeter of rectilinear shapes;
- know how to find the perimeters of regular shapes;
- know how to work out the side length of a regular shape if we know the perimeter.

A rectilinear shape is a shape made up of two or more rectangles.
In the following sheets, you need to find the missing side lengths, then add them up to find the perimeter of the shapes.

Finding the Perimeter of a Regular Shape
Because regular shapes have all sides of equal length, we can easily find the perimeter of a regular shape.
All we need to do is to multiply the number of sides by the length of one side to find the perimeter.

If we know the perimeter of a regular shape, we can also easily find the side length.
All we need to do is to divide the perimeter by the number of sides to find the length of one side.

These sheets involve finding the perimeter of assorted shapes.
Each sheet consists of a range of 2d shapes to find the perimeter of.
Some of the sheets need measurement to find the perimeter, others involve adding up the side lengths.
Each sheet has two versions: a standard unit version (with both standard and metric units) and also a metric version with metric units only.

Perimeter of 2D Shapes Challenges
These sheets involve working out the perimeter with the measurements described.
There are a selection of regular shapes as well as other 2d shapes.
Sheet 1 involves whole numbers only, suitable for 4th grade.
Sheets 2 and 3 involve fractions and decimals and are aimed at 5th graders.
Sheet 3 also involves finding a missing side length when the perimeter is known.
