Nissan Kicks vs. Mazda CX-30

The Stylish Nissan Kicks is Ready to Kick the Competition to the Curb

It's not your imagination that SUVs are getting smaller these days, or that every carmaker seems to have at least one subcompact crossover option in their lineups. These eye-catching models offer the SUV style and design drivers like, in a smaller size that makes them both easy to park and easy to maneuver in St. Louis traffic. But they're not all created equal, and at AutoCenters Nissan, we're excited to introduce you to one that's sure to stand above the competition and speak to your personality - the Nissan Kicks.

Meet The Nissan Kicks

Still in its first generation, the Nissan Kicks first debuted on our East Edwardsville Road dealership in 2018. It has comfortable seating for up to five people in two rows, four doors, and a useful rear cargo hold that can accommodate everything from groceries to suitcases.

If you're in the market for a new crossover for your St. Louis commute, allow our team to introduce you to the new Nissan Kicks. If you find yourself torn between competing models of a similar size and class, allow us to demonstrate what sets our model apart and makes it the best option for your next SUV.

The Nissan Kicks vs. the Mazda CX-3

On the surface, the Kicks and the Mazda CX-3 appear to have a lot in common. Both fall into the subcompact classification of SUVs, with an SUV-like appearance and petite size. But dive a little deeper and you'll discover a number of areas where the two models differ, and the Nissan Kicks comes out ahead.

  • Options. Nissan understands that drivers like choices and that they like a range of options available in order to customize and personalize their vehicle, and the Nissan Kicks delivers. Our Kicks is available in three trim levels, and it has a menu of optional packages and add-on features. The Mazda CX-3, on the other hand, is a single trim model. Drivers have no options available from which to personalize their ride and have to be satisfied with whatever standard equipment the CX-3 comes with.
  • Passenger space. While the Mazda CX-3 can feel cramped and uncomfortable inside for you and your passengers, the Nissan Kicks offers plenty of cozy room for everyone to stretch out in. Look for more headroom, legroom, and shoulder room in the Nissan Kicks when compared to the CX-3, especially in the front seat, where the Kicks has two additional inches of both headroom and legroom when compared to the competition.
  • Cargo space. Not only does the Nissan Kicks have more room for your passengers, it also has more room for your stuff. The Mazda CX-3 cargo hold can accommodate just 17.8 cubic feet of gear, compared to more than 25 cubic feet of space available in the Nissan Kicks.
  • Efficiency. You can also go further on a tank of gas in the Nissan Kicks than the Mazda CX-3. The EPA gives the Kicks a rating of 31 mpg in the city / 36 mpg on the highway / 33 mpg combined. Meanwhile, the CX-3 gets an EPA rating of just 29 mpg in the city / 34 mpg on the highway / 31 mpg combined.
  • Technology. As a single trim model, the Mazda CX-3 has a limited range of tech features available, while the Nissan Kicks has a comprehensive menu of available features. Not only that, but the Nissan comes with more features standard than the CX-3, including automatic high beams, parking sensors, pedestrian detection, and more.

In the segment of compact SUVs (Sport Utility Vehicles), automakers have come a long way. From where we stand and view the automotive industry, Mazda and Nissan are automakers with a powerful range of compact SUVs. In recent times, Mazda CX-30 and Nissan Kicks have emerged as popular nameplates in the compact SUV segment, and from how it looks, both these vehicles will continue to stay relevant in the upcoming years. In the 2022 model year, Mazda CX-30 and Nissan Kicks are going head-on, and it isn't easy to know which of the two will emerge as a clear winner.

In the past twenty years hundreds of infants and young children have died after being left in vehicles, usually by accident. When turning the vehicle off, drivers of the Kicks SV/SR are reminded to check the back seat if they opened the rear door before starting out. The CX-30 doesn’t offer a back seat reminder.

Over 200 people are killed each year when backed over by motor vehicles. The Kicks has standard Rear Automatic Braking that uses rear sensors to monitor and automatically apply the brakes to prevent a rear collision. The CX-30 doesn’t offer backup collision prevention brakes.

The Kicks SR has a standard Around View® Monitor to allow the driver to see objects all around the vehicle on a screen. The CX-30 only offers a rear monitor.

The Kicks has a standard blind spot warning system which uses sensors to alert the driver to objects in the vehicle’s blind spots where the side view mirrors don’t reveal them. Only the CX-30 Select/Preferred/Premium offers a blind spot warning system.

To help make backing out of a parking space safer, the Kicks has a standard rear cross-path warning system, which uses sensors in the rear bumper to alert the driver to vehicles approaching from the side, helping the driver avoid collisions. Only the CX-30 Select/Preferred/Premium has a rear cross-path warning system.

Both the Kicks and the CX-30 have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver and front passenger knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, front wheel drive, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, lane departure warning systems, rearview cameras, available daytime running lights and driver alert monitors.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration does side impact tests on new vehicles. In this test, which crashes the vehicle into a flat barrier at 38.5 MPH and into a post at 20 MPH, results indicate that the Nissan Kicks is safer than the Mazda CX-30:
