Anyone try the new Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Eraser Dark Circle Concealer yet?
This one had me intrigued even though my gut instinct is to turn tail and run in the opposite direction whenever I see new drugstore concealers, I’m of the mentality that concealer is a splurge item.
Supposedly this one will erase dark circles and diminish puffiness. I’m having my love, hate relationship with it at the moment.

A new concealer from Maybelline to conceal under eyes and treat them by diminishing the signs of puffiness and fatigue.
This comes in a plastic tube with an attached puff for application. It’s a concealer that you can swipe on without every having to touch it. I like the packaging alot, I find the puff a interesting way to apply concealer as you’d think it would give you that airbrushed appearance. The puff is a soft little fluffy piece of dense cotton-like fiber which you can saturated with the concealer by twisting.
Application is a simple affair of twisting color onto the puff and swiping on with a little finger blending to get things blended out. It does to some extent give a very nice finish but proper blending with a finger is necessary to get a more polished look. The formula thin with a medium pigmentation that did a decent job of concealing my woes such as fine lines, darkness, puffiness, and fatigue. There isn’t any question about the formula, I thought it was good, not great, not bad, but just good. It didn’t settle into fine lines, it had a hydrating feel, and enough color pay off to conceal my problem areas, basically all the things I look for in a good concealer.
The product comes in a few shades selections as well as a yellow based neutralizer for concealing really dark circles (to be used in conjunction with the concealer for total coverage) as well as a brightener with a pink base that you can use to highlight certain areas around your eyes. I had purchased the neutralizer as well as the light shade of concealer. The colors look very beige in the tube but be warned they do run a tad lighter than what your eyes are seeing at first glance. In my case the light was too light and the medium was too dark but the neutralizer seemed to be perfect…shrug…colors are a bit of a toss up and disappointing if you can’t get your shade down. To make things work I simply use a bit of the neutralizer to brighten up my eye area and a tiny bit of the medium concealer…this seems to keep the medium from making my eyes look too tired due to the heavier beige in the shade (the shade swatched is the light and neutralizer).
I wanna say I like this alot and it’s a great bargain, yada, yada…but the formula is a tad too thin for my liking. I prefer a creamier more moisturizing concealer. I think if I get a good eight hours of sleep and I wake up with already great looking eyes I can easily use this but for days I’m working on less sleep and my eyes are looking tired with dark circles, well, I feel like I need something better. Younger eyes can appreciate this formula or even those with old, crepey skin as the thinner formula is ideal for such an eye type.
Those of us somewhere in the middle who might have dryness, some puffiness, and darkness that like a creamier concealer might not really love this so much. In my experience it did not treat puffiness but only concealed it.
Another issue is the puff which can’t be removed. Maybelline says it’s treated with a anti-microbial to keep bacteria at bay but the fact of the matter is it gets grungy looking really fast and I’m not sure you want to “trust” that It’ll be ok to use daily particularly if you have sensitive eyes.
- Those with younger, smoother eyes who can benefit from a thinner formula.
- Those with crepey, aging eyes who need a lighter concealer that won’t tug and blends easily.
- Those looking for a concealer that’s thinner, blends easily, and wears long.
- Those who are conscious of bacteria or anal about germs (the puff makes me cringe).
- Those who do not want to second guess their shade (I had issues getting my color right and having to worry about mixing to get it to match, etc…as far as I’m concerned I shouldn’t have to mix shades to get my color correct).
I don’t love Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Eraser but I don’t hate it either. It wears quite long, brightens my eyes up well when used in conjunction with the neutralizer and blends out easily without creeping into fine lines however it has a few quirks that might turn people off.
I probably wouldn’t personally pay full price for it (even though I did…for the sake of the blog haha) but if there was a BOGO offer of some sort I’d probably recommend checking it out as it might just surprise you!
