Redeeming Citi Costco rewards without visiting Costco?
Post by capitalG » Sat Jun 06, 2020 2:00 am
I am currently living overseas and often use our Costco Citi Card to make purchases (no foreign fee + cash back = BH choice!). I usually return to the US a couple times a year and make sure to visit Costco to collect my Citi Costco cash back (along with loading up on goodies like almond butter). Unfortunately there's a good chance I will not make it to the US in 2020 due to COVID-related travel issues. Has anyone had success redeeming the Citi Costo rewards certificate without physically visiting a Costco?

generally speaking, it has been my experience that you have to go to the warehouse in order to redeem them. I wanted to use mine to buy an online only item and had to go into the warehouse and have it placed on a gift card. However, in this situation it may be worth contacting customer service at Costco. They may be willing to exchange it for a gift card or something similar. I've always found Costco customer service second to none. It doesn't hurt to ask.

Thank you, worth a shot. Tried calling a couple times and the hold times are through the roof, I guess I'll leave the hold music playing in the background while watching Netflix...

Here is your answer: //customerservice.costco.com/app/ ... /related/1
While your Executive Membership 2% Reward certificates aren't accepted as a form of payment when making your purchases online, there's a workaround. You may use your Reward Certificate to purchase a Costco Shop Card at your local warehouse. You'll find the address and contact info of your nearest Costco right here.
The Costco Shop Card can then be used to pay for your orders at Costco.com. For further information, please review the Terms and Conditions for the 2% Reward.
As a temporary measure due to the coronavirus pandemic, we are able to mail you a Costco Shop Card if you prefer. Simply mail your Executive 2% Reward certificate to the address below, and we’ll mail you back a Costco Shop Card for that amount.
Please include the following:
Your name
Membership number
Address to mail the Costco Shop Card to
Phone number in case we need to contact you
Executive 2% Reward certificatePlease mail to:
Costco Wholesale
Attn: Executive 2% Dept.
1455 11th Ave NW
Issaquah, WA 98027Please note that processing and mail delivery of the Costco Shop Card is approximately 7-10 days from receipt of your reward certificate.

Thank you! We got our rewards check but I really don't want to brave the hordes at Costco just to transfer it to a cash card. Didn't know they added a mail-in option.

This is my problem with Costco. You have a rewards card, why not just credit the rebate back to the card? Amazon does this with their card. Checks get lost, the one they give my 91 year old Dad I have to go to see him and get him to Costco to redeem. I am sure many people do not redeem their check - maybe that is why the do it that way? I have complained several times to Costco but have given up.

Another reason is that it gets people into the store to spend money.

Agreed. Costco wants you to spend it. With my 2% executive rewards rebate, I usually just take it in to Costco and buy something small and they'll give the remainder in cash. With my Costco Citi rebate, I take it straight to the member services desk and they give me a bank check.

Is this only for the executive 2% rebate check? I don't see a similar address for regular members with a Citi Card.
I dunno. I guess I would just call Costco. Call some local warehouse direct number, not their 800 national number if you want to get through quicker.

Have any recent repliers read the first post?
OP lives abroad, usually visits the US several times a year, but anticipates not being able to do so due to COVID-19.

Sorry for late update but closing the loop on this topic in case it helps someone else out. Called Costco Citicard (877-419-4002) to explain my situation and they immediately offered to convert the certificate into a statement credit for my Costco Visa card due to the COVID situation. Gotta love that Costco service!
