When you need to upload a photo into the student record system, you need a picture sized below 1 MB (megabyte). Most of the photos taken with a high definition camera are larger than required.
You can resize your photo by following the steps below. Instructions use tools or apps already installed by the manufacturer on your device. If you do not want to use them, you will easily find apps and software on the web that can help you resize pictures.

Picture guidelines
Before uploading your picture, be sure that:
- The photo you are uploading is in JPEG format (filename extension: .jpg or .jpeg)
- The picture / file size is up to 1 MB (megabyte).
Resize a picture using the Gallery app (Android)
- Open the "Gallery" app
- Select the photo you want to resize.
- Tap the Edit icon at the bottom of the
screen:
- Tap "More options" icon (the three vertical dots):
- Select
"Resize":
- Choose your preferred resized image percentage from the Resize image options:
- Tap on "Done" to apply changes.
- When you have finish editing, tap "Save".
- When the photo is resized, you can see the size of the image file is reduced within the image details.
Resize a picture using the Photos app (Apple iOS)
iOS Photos app does not have an option that allow you to resize your picture using automatic tools.
To avoid this problem, you can crop your picture maintaining its proportions following these steps:
- In Photos, open a photo thumbnail to view it in full screen.
- Tap "Edit".
- Tap the "Crop" icon .
- Tap the "Aspect Ratio" icon . That allows you to crop to a standard preset ratio.
- Choose the option 2:3 (since you want a portrait).
- Drag the rectangle corners to enclose the area you want to keep in the photo:
- Select Done.
Resize a picture using Paint 3D (Windows)
- First, open Paint 3D app. You can open it in the Start menu:
- Select Menu
- Select the Browse files button.
- Now, find the image or picture to resize and select Open. The image will be opened in the Paint 3D app.
- Next, click on the Crop button on the top bar.
- On the right sidebar, select the "Lock Aspect Ratio" checkbox under the Resize Canvas section.
- Now, set the width or height according to your requirement. Move the new frame as you want.
- Once you are satisfied with the new image size, click on the "Done" button on the top right corner.
- Select "Menu"
- Select the "Save as" option on the sidebar to save a duplicate image with resized dimensions.
- Click on the "Image" button to save
your file as an image:
- Select a destination, name the file, and click on the "Save" button.
- Close the Paint 3D app. When prompted, click the "Don’t Save" button. That way, you will not be modifying the original image.
Resize a picture using Preview (Apple macOS)
- Double-click on the image you want to adjust. Preview will automatically open it.
- Go to the menu bar and press:
- "Tools"
- "Adjust
Size":
- The "Fit Into" options include resizing the image by pixels, percentage, inches, centimeters, millimeters, or points.
The "Scale proportionally" and "Resample image" boxes should be checked. - Enter the width or the height you want - the dimensions of the pictures will change dynamically. The "Resulting size" box will show the weight of the picture after the changes
- Once you are happy with the changes, press "OK" - your macOS will automatically save the changes.
Other apps or software
If you are still facing issues resizing your photo, you can try using a specific app on your mobile or a software like Photoshop, Gimp or Adobe Express on your computer. You can also use a free image resizer tool like ImageResizer or PicResize.
