1.0 out of 5 stars nothing worse than this happening in middle of the night

Reviewed in the United States on 7 August 2017

Size name: Pack of 3Verified Purchase

Please read and take note ... look at the manufacture date on them when you get it. I should of read the reviews in detail. Bought a 3 pack, one of them started beeping (5 chirps-end of life) 1 month after installing it, and also after return period. I looked at the manufacture date and it is from Nov 2010. I will throw them all out, nothing worse than this happening in middle of the night. So PLEASE check them before your return period ends.

1.0 out of 5 stars I don't know why I didn't have the sense to ...

I don't know why I didn't have the sense to look at the date when this purchase arrived BUT I did just get a chance to see it (at 3:30 am) after it went off and a firefighter informed me that my detector was over ten years old. It is completely irresponsible of Amazon to sell such a device when it's over ten years old. Don't even bother purchasing this.

1.0 out of 5 stars Boo! It died already! 150 days old...

Bought this on 30March 2017, and just before the end of August it died. It began chirping like its battery needed replaced, so we put a fresh coppertop in it. It still was chirping. We stepped outside, to verify that it wasn't alerting us to CO levels. Battery out, battery in, another fresh battery, a third new battery - nothing made any difference. We finally just removed the battery.

Apparently, it's the End Of Life death knell for its 7-year life expectancy. Mine has a mfr date of "2016 Jun 07" stamped in it.

1.0 out of 5 stars The reason the price is low is because the manufacture date is 10 years old. They won't last 7 years, only got 2 months use!

I would have given this good reviews, because it is easy to use and I think would probably work correctly, but after having it only a couple of months one unit already started beeping with the ERR code. That code means end of life. The units say they have a 7 year life after start of use. Well, 2 months is far from 7 years, but I checked the manufacture date and it was made in October of 2006, so Amazon is selling 10 year old detectors. and apparently manufacture date does matter, not just start of use.

1.0 out of 5 stars EXTREMELY poor design as a replacement for the same model

Reviewed in the United States on 6 September 2017

Size name: 2 PackVerified Purchase

I ordered this First Alert Carbon Monoxide Alarm because it was the same model of the one I was replacing, thinking I could easily remove the older one on our wall and simply re-attach this one using the same screw holes in our wall (it is the same model, after all). WELL: the screw holes do not align, necessitating drilling a second set of screw holes in the wall! Furthermore, the holes on the new device are so close to the holes for the older device that drilling newer holes literally touch the older holes so the likelihood that these plastic screw anchors will remain in place is very low. What a stupid design!!!! For a company that might want a consumer to replace an older CO alarm with their newer model, no thinking went into how much trouble moving the screw holes on the device would cause. The device itself is the same size, so it was reasonable to assume the screw holes would align, thus negating the need to patch, re-paint, etc. I seriously doubt I will EVER purchase another product from First Alert. Their design team needs to use their own products to figure out that this change is VERY disappointing to consumers who simply want to use the same-sized device in the same place with the same screw holes, without major wall repair.

What type of battery does a First Alert carbon monoxide alarm use?

Most detectors take AA or 9V batteries. Use brand-name Duracell, Energizer, or Eveready batteries with an expiration date 4+ years from today's date. Rechargeable batteries are not recommended.

Why is my First Alert carbon monoxide alarm beeping?

1 Beep Every Minute: Low Battery. It is time to replace the batteries in your carbon monoxide detector. 5 Beeps Every Minute: End of Life. This type of chirp indicates it is time to replace your carbon monoxide alarm.
