Good spy film from India

Verified purchase

You need to know something about south Asia and acronyms like ISI ( Pakistani spy agency ). Counter-terrorism agency, RAW, of India is assigned to capture terrorists, free hostages. Like all films from India, there is singing and dancing. Weird in an anti-terrorist film, but this is from India. Well worth watching.

Solid thriller and entertainer

Verified purchase

This was a solid entertaining movie. Bit slow at beginning, picks up later. Screenplay, acting, rest is great. Does a really nice job of picking up the 70s vibe in every scene. I love that Akshay does such a great job of retelling incredible true stories in cinematic form. My only comment is Akshay Kumar looks a little too old to be playing a 32 yr old super spy. Granted he looks awesome great for his age and dude can carry off a pink kurta like nobody's business, but there is still a big difference between 54 and 32. They could have made the character a bit older to make him more realistic - otherwise a younger actor like Sid Malhotra or an Arjun Kapoor would be better in these kinds of roles.

Good account of a terrorist attack from special unit view point

Verified purchase

I really liked the way that this followed through with the history of a real
attack from the view point of a special unit in India. There was great contention
between India and Pakistan at the time. This thing was put together with care
and skill. I kind of remembered the story but wasn't sure how it turned out since
it happened so long ago. Thus there was a bit of suspense and I found it pretty
interesting. I didn't remember if it blew to hell or a whole bunch of people got
killed or if it was a success. I recommend this movie.

Lackluster!

Verified purchase

I wanted to like this movie. Although, similar RAW agents and their ways of solving cases isn't something new that has been presented on big screen before. This one too is no different but less lackluster compared with similar movies. I do understand this is somewhat realistic story based on true events but modified to fit the Bollywood Masala theme. I hated the stereotyping unfairly that all people and their behaviors with a particular country are always bad. This has to stop.

No matter what the story-line is and how much true story it really is, I hate the fact that its always the "other side" that is presented as bad. This propaganda has to stop somewhere. It has been going on for a very long time. It had good cast and some of them did play their roles nicely. But having said that despite gallant efforts trying to match the background, scenes, cars, the movie fell short of expectations.

Could have been a lot better. But it is not.. Three stars rating.

Akshay Kumar shines through the sand and that's it

Verified purchase

Overall storyline is predictable and a far bit stretched. Akshay Kumar is the pillar of strength for this film, standing tall like a khamba. The alignment of terrorists with Pakistan may cause some heads to turn. It may seem like a propaganda piece due to the underlying tones of the Indian national anthem and its clear anti Pakistan notions; however, this is not to be taken to heart. It is a Bollywood film at the end of the day.

I came into this film blind, not having any expectations. What I will say is that some of the dialogues are memeworthy. The soundtrack is average, and you won't register it due to what is happening on camera at the moment. The buildup to the climax is enjoyable but the climax is where it falls flat, just like Akshay's moustache. The entire scene that could have had live action sequences fell to sub par green screen.

Run of the mill

Verified purchase

Bell Bottom has an interesting title, a sincere attempt by Akshay who has grown into a dependable actor and a good appealing storyline but lacks a good tight screenplay. The narration is too run of the mill. Lara Dutta I thought, looks ludicrous as Indira Gandhi, unlike what all the press reviews were saying. Everything about Vaani Kapoor is 2020s - her clothes, hair and all and sticks out like a sore thumb. Dolly Ahluwalia brings spark in a brief cameo. There is an interesting background score straight out of the Kalyanji Anandji movies from the seventies but the songs are flat and slow down an otherwise interesting first half. The support cast is full of caricatures.... all of them behave in such a cliche fashion. Then, in the second half the movie slides downwards as it fails to be engrossing and is too predictable. There is a cool twist at the end though. Overall average fare - time pass entertainment

Fun

Verified purchase

This movie can be summed up as an Indian version of Kiefer Sutherland in the television show 24. I liked 24, so this was fun to watch the plot unfold on a seemingly impossible timeline.

For most of the audience, you will need the subtitles turned on. It is a mix of language with not too much English.

It sure beats some of the recent theatrical releases.
